  1. I for one loved the 1973 episodes. A few people on other message boards and facebook were pissing and moaning about wanting the current show back on instead of sitting through reruns and characters they don't know or care about. I wish there was a streaming channel to watch Y&R from the beginning.
  2. Terry went to Santa Barbara after Y&R, then became frustrated there and went to ATWT and left that show when Douglas Marland passed. Jeanne Cooper said she adored Terry Lester, but he was a bit of a hot head and burned a lot of bridges. She said years later before he passed, Terry ran into the Bells while having dinner and he apologized for the way he acted out and they all made amends.
  3. I agree. They need to sit down with the original cast that is left and interview them all.
  4. I recently saw Jeanne on a 1971 episode of Hawaii Five-0 and she looked older than she was. When she started on Y&R in 1973 she had aged a bit more with her smoking and drinking catching up with her. Dorothy Green who played Jennifer was 8 years older, but Jeanne and she looked the same age.
  5. I'm surprised they went back to 1973. I had seen Episode # 1 many times before, but # 2 was pleasant surprise. It was strange hearing Liz encourage Snapper to dig himself out of the poor house by getting to know Chris. It was a bit out of character from the Liz we are use to seeing. The Brooks dinner scene was cute. The kitchen was fitting for an older house that had been updated for the 70's with it's harvest gold appliances and wallpaper. Jennifer looked really regal while "fixing supper" Peggy was funny and cute. I wish the show had done more with her in the later years. I hope they show more 70's classics.
  6. Soaps like Days and GH always used their rich histories to drive storylines from time to time, but GL and Y&R never dove into their histories prior to the 80's. Y&R pretty much ignores the 1970's except for the Jill/Kay feud. Most viewers of Y&R and GL mainly know stuff 1983 -forward.
  7. I agree. I wish at some point Mike and Elizabeth had found their way back to each other. Even if it was off camera and mentioned by Phillip. Hope not returning never made sense at all as you said since Alan Michael was prominent. The problem when new writers come in they ignore the past and make a mess of things with quick flash in the pan storylines. Y&R is a prime example of that after the loss of Bill Bell.
  8. I am in love with late 70's GL. Jackie, Elizabeth, Alan, Hope, Justin, Mike, Ed, Bert, Rita etc....keep me invested in what's going on. Even if it's just someone having coffee or dinner etc... By the early 80's the show started to unravel and become the Reva Show. Elizabeth Spaulding was such a fascinating tragic character. Her marriage to Alan was tumultuous, her son Phillip was not her real son, she couldn't be with the love of her life (Mike), married and divorced Justin quickly and eventually gave up custody of Phillip leaving town. I wish Cindy Pickett had continued as Jackie till the end of the Phillip story.
  9. This is dated 1979, but it is from when he first started on Days.
  10. Jarrod Ross Kaplan who played Phillip # 1 (1977-1981) has a personal youtube page. He uploaded a clip of his GL work back in April.
  11. I stopped watching GL in the early 90's after Maureen's death. I did see bits of towards the end before cancellation and it looked like train wreck. I have been re-watching the late 70's and remember why I loved this show in it's hey day. The Jackie/Justin/Alan/Elizabeth/Mike/Hope story is one of my favorites. I wonder why Lezlie Dalton left the show in 1981 and never returned as Elizabeth ? Was she ever mentioned in the last years of the show ? The storyline about Phillip was great, but fizzled out when Cindy Pickett as Jackie departed.
  12. I also noticed Tanya Roberts in that ad. Thanks for sharing. There is another late 70's Excedrin ad on youtube with Brynn Thayer
  13. I remember as a kid when Bob and Kim got back together in the 80's and the scenes in the snow storm. Kim was talking about the past with Jennifer. I remember my Mom filled me in on the Kim/Bob/Jennifer story. To this day I wish I could see ATWT episodes circa 1972-73 when that all went down.
  14. I kept waiting too. There was that woman who kept VCR's running in her house since the 70's. She had a warehouse full of videotapes when she died a few years back. Her son said he wants to donate them to someone who will preserve and make them available.
  15. I think it was posted late last year (2019) on that forum. I hope the information is true. I know several early 70's episodes of GL, ATWT, and AW thought to of been wiped is listed in the UCLA TV and film database. They are marked as not being playable on archive equipment. There is a guy on youtube called Obsolete Video and he transfers out of date film/videotape formats to digital media. They need to contact him. There is probably some treasures out there that is collecting dust as we speak. I would love to see an episode of GL from about 1968 or 69 in color. I wonder if Mart Hulswit (Ed) or the late Don Stewart (Mike) had copies of old episodes they appeared in ? Maybe Charita Bauer's son has some of his mom's work ?
  16. I was over at one of the game show forums reading a thread about tape wiping and shows thought to be lost. Someone mentioned that the daytime version of To Tell The Truth has turned up along with a couple of other daytime shows. Another person replied that Guiding Light episodes thought to be lost may exist as well. Wouldn't that be incredible ?
  17. Wonder what ever happened to those annoying actors that invaded the show circa 1996 ? Lisa Lawrence who played Sarah Kasnoff has some credits on IMDB prior to 2007, but John Howard who played Paul Ryan for like 5 minutes is not even listed. Aisha Henderson who played (Zoe) only has 3 credits (1996-1999)
  18. I wonder how Janice Lynde would have been in the role of Patti when she left Y&R ? Lynn Loring Janice Lynde
  19. I wonder who played Ruth ? I was also surprised to read that Chris Brooks Foster also lived at the estate when Jill moved the family in. Wonder if Chris discussed the Jill/Kay situation with her parents and sisters ?
  20. They mentioned another maid named Ruth ? around 1975. Liz Foster took a job as the cook and did some of the maid work. It mentioned Katherine was a hard task master with Liz when she started. I wonder if she threw trays and griped about the food being slop etc... ? Little did Kay know when she hired Liz that she would turn out to be one her best friends (even though she hated her daughter Jill).
  21. Did Janice Lynde ever marry ? I thought Pamela Peters was still married to the much older Herb Solow when he passed, but his obituary had a different wife of many years listed. So that marriage must have ended by the end of the 70's. Peters always reminded me a bit of Judy Strangis. Strangis may have been a good recast after Peters left instead of Patricia Everly. Strangis pretty much left show business at the end of the 80's after a stalking incident.
  22. That interesting about Matthei. James Douglas was probably considered a big deal after his role on the 60's sudser Peyton Place.
  23. All of her other soap roles sucked pretty much. Lynde admitted that Leslie was a fascinating character, but she was young and foolish and left looking for greener pastures. Tom Hallick (Brad Elliot) said NBC lured him away with promises of big roles and money which was a bust. He wished he had stayed on Y&R. Espy has always been an odd ball. I never knew about his orientation. I read an old 1974 interview several years ago and he griped about the grind of Y&R, his lack of a relationship with his cast mates hiding away in his dressing room while not taping, and him not getting along all that well with Trish Stewart (Chris). He also said he played Snapper a bit preoccupied and he felt it worked onscreen. James Houghton said back in the late 90's that Espy always loved golf and finally has his dream job of running a golf course instead of being on a soap.
