SOD
Lol! I sort of agree, but when the tag is we promise we are ending the Possession story it's fitting to have John/Marlena on the cover. They aren't even really involved.

From everything I have seen SSH has always been hammy. But it fit the times you know? I just don't think Susan ever scaled back so that's why everything seems OTT now. Although people like Deidre and Suzanne are much more subtle back then and are hammy now. I do think, and correct me if I am wrong, the 60's style of acting was much different than the 70's though.

ADA is a little out there for the age but we saw her actually going to law school and she wasn't just instantly a lawyer. My sister works in employment/employee defense so not nearly the same. But wasn't Molly exceptionally bright and possibly skipped a few grades or something? Idk, it doesn't bother me that much. But I get it. GH seems to be more realistic with their teen/young adult casting than in the past. They aren't casting Vanessa Marcil and Antonio Sabato Jr as 16 year olds these days lol.

The Real World Homecoming: New York
Well, Julie admitted to writing the letter about Danny, so it wasn't the agents on that. Julie's story back then was very interesting with BYU and Mormonism, so I think she would be a better draw than Melissa. Although I think Melissa has 100% the better personality and does have a story to tell. I am thinking of optics at the time. Danny's story was so groundbreaking as well, but at the time I could see booking Julie as the easier option. I don't know, it seems more about Julie's lack of reaction for 22 years than money. And Julie's entitlement of just being forgiven because she said sorry a quarter century later is so off putting.

The Real World Homecoming: New York
I don't really understand it all. Were they making that much money speaking? I do think her reps might have wrote the letters to get her all the jobs because that's what agents do. But.......Julie not reaching out and acting clueless for 20 years isn't a good look. Neither is her stealing Toyko (David's) exact words when apologizing or getting so drunk she's kicked out of a club. It seems she is still married, but the fact she called her mom instead of her husband when all the crap went down feels weird? She seems like a really unhappy person. Danny's trajectory is kind of sad. He seems to live a very secluded life.

Days of Our Lives: April 2022 Discussion Thread
I think you can obviously tell. It's clear these actors have a specific styling they prefer. I do think most of these actors are at least marginally skilled in doing their own hair and makeup because it's just the nature of the business. You just never see the elaborate up dos or anything really interesting because the actors are just doing their hair the way they normally do it I guess. I love hair and makeup, so I am probably just overthinking it all. But, for the love of Satan, can someone steer Deidre Hall away from flannels, ugly pantsuits, and pleather jackets? Will? Sonny? Leo? This looks great, but it has volume. The opposite of what Days usually does with her hair.

Honestly, that picture makes her hair look decent so I agree. Maybe she should have either short or long hair. The in between is not good. It seems like she has oily, thin hair which isn't the easiest to style and I am not even sure the how much the hair department even does these days with covid. Tbh, everyone's hair looks the same day in day out to the point I noticed Marlena had her hair curled on Tuesday lol. Allie tends to have some elaborate hairstyles, but I always thought LA might do it herself.

Days of Our Lives: April 2022 Discussion Thread
I can honestly say I don't think AZ has ever had a flattering hairstyle in her entire run on Days. Even when she first appeared she had a hairstyle that would fit a 40 year old soccer mom. I really think she would look better with longer hair. I think the color is fine, but the style consistently looks flat and greasy with all sorts of weird layers.

Days of Our Lives: April 2022 Discussion Thread
AZ has some of the most unflattering hairstyles and clothing on the show consistently. I think it's her choice lol. She's always in awful dresses. Much like Ciara is always in revealing clothing regardless of her 3rd trimester pregnancy.

Lol! It almost seemed like that was a weird mistake and they forgot to say cut, so the two actors just started adlibbing about change. I am not a fan of singing. Unless it's a Nurses Ball related thing-I prefer to not hear it. It reminds me of GH in the 90's where you had to watch characters react to Ned/Eddie Maine singing for 3 minutes weekly.

I haven't seen enough of BM's work to make a full, accurate assessment, but you kinda have me hung up on rapemance.. I am just saying I can see the reasons these characters might have been backburnered or ignored. Jed Allen, Bill Hayes, Quinn Redecker, etc weren't young either but seemed a bit younger. Whether it was love interests or story-the Horton kids aged out into middle age very quickly.

I am pretty relaxed. I didn't think you were challenging anything. But the fact that Mickey was trying to romance a woman that had a 19 year old pregnant daughter doesn't make him look younger either. JC does have nice eyes, but he never looked "young" . I would honestly buy he was Alice's younger brother before one of her children. Same with Bill. But, again, I can't speak for the times because I wasn't alive and I can't make a correct assumption for the style in that era. Rugged was probably a better overall look for him. And I am not saying looks, perse, but actual age. I don't think he was a bad looking guy. Just a little older looking and didn't age great, so I think that didn't help his cause throughout the years. Again, my perception of something I didn't see is only that and an opinion. I am not sure if I think JC or EM's acting held up that well either. The weird joke about Alice and the widower fell weirdly flat and it was clear JC flubbed his line as well in that episode.

Styling is an issue for sure, but I am talking more about visible wrinkles and a receding hairline on JC. I think Deidre Hall looks the same age from like 1983 to 1999 (insert plastic surgery joke here) and Kristian looks older in 1984 than she does in 2004. That's styling. John Clarke and Ed Mallory look older than their age and don't age well. I think it's part of the era, but it doesn't hold up well for long term IMO. But YMMV on this topic.

Thanks @victoria foxton! You are awesome!!!! Loved the episode. So question to anyone that might know, is it normal for an episode to feature that lengthy of a flashback? I loved it because I obviously hadn't seen it, but it took up a lot of the episode. Also, side note, did Tom ever go find Alice? Was she with the handsome widower down the street? Scandal. And purely physical, but John Clarke did not look like a young, swinging bachelor even in 1966. I love JC, his years of loyalty, and he is Mickey, but I would have probably cast someone younger or someone who projected younger for that role.

So...........is Anna still in jail? What's up with that story? And, wow, they aren't even being subtle about an EJ/Belle hookup. Oh well, I am here for it. Slutty/Bitchy Belle is at least a tolerable one.

Yes it seems like multiple couples and characters could have resolved their issues with one or two conversations and it makes everyone seem dumb in this era. It gives me that 90's Days vibe where every couple literally could have solved their problems by having 1 honest conversation. I am not clear why Laura hates Julie so much at this point. I know she's crazy, but I don't know what Julie's ever done to her lol. I am also unclear why Julie would chose a shrink related to her when there appear to be 2 other shrinks on the canvas that aren't married to her uncle. Very true about Claire Labine. During her GH run (which is what I am most familiar with from her) she really didn't rely on that miscommunication/misunderstanding trope. Even though I would argue Ned's life would have been a lot easier if he just told Lois the truth instead of marrying someone else and carrying out this double identity ruse for months. That was probably more Ned being an idiot than a miscommunication though.

Thank you for your take! Reading the recaps it seems Laura wasn't even that subtle lol. But I could buy Julie being so damaged psychologically from the injury she wasn't thinking clearly. It just seems like there was a lot of silly miscommunication between Doug/Julie. I love reading the recaps and envisioning the story myself, but I love to hear from those who actually saw it. I believe Julie actually did contemplate suicide and left the hospital with a bottle of pills. Laura was going into crazyLaura mode at this point, but apparently no one noticed and Julie appreciated her "honesty".

No idea about Doug as a clown. Clowns creep me out. Maybe Julie felt the same and that's why she divorced Doug lol From recaps, it's sounds like the scarring was horrible and Julie went to multiple Drs and one bad skin graft and then one Dr. finally miraculously fixed it. I believe in this thread somewhere there is an article where Harrower said she considered leaving Julie permanently scarred but it was vetoed by the network. I have a hard time believing Julie being scarred for life was ever on the table. Yeah, I don't think pivoting Doug to Lee helped matters either. It's hard to tell without watching day to day because perhaps there were psychological nuances I missed with Julie's injury, but it does sound dumb considering all Doug/Julie had been through. Again, hard to tell without seeing it, but knowing SSH's acting, I could imagine it being very OTT and melodramatic. In some ways it sounds like a JER story where the entire situation could have been avoided if Doug/Julie just talked to one another.

It generally seems like the worst choice she could have possibly made lol. Idk, adrenaline and panic can make you do stupid things, but Maggie was close by and seemed to have a handle on how to put out fires. I guess it was a way to give Julie a meaty story and to break Doug/Julie up in a different way. Not the most organic or plausible story, but it was probably the best of that year. The Anderson stuff seems pretty boring to me.
