That CBO score for the Senate GOP healthcare bill is dreadful, both the House and Senate GOP's Unaffordable Healthcare bills are pure disaster! They should be embarrassed by this. Perhaps the only way to fight a so-called billionaire is with another billionaire but I'm a bit unsettled by all the apparent power that multi-millionaires and billionaires seem to wield in changing/creating public policies that affect us all. To a certain extent, former NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg was one of the key actors in this activity. He certainly ushered in an era of billionaires shaping policies in NYC (see: Barry Diller). This may not necessarily be a good thing all the time though. Bloomberg’s Next Anti-Washington Move: $200 Million Program for Mayors- The Politics Thread
The snippet I posted this morning was just a piece of the Trump administration's "policy" in Africa, which is unsettling officials in the Pentagon and African leaders alike. It is clear that Trump wants a militaristic policy in Africa that diminishes humanitarian and developmental aid, which, even the generals fear will hurt American interests long term. African leaders fear that this emphasis on military-heavy policies over developmental will lead of higher unemployment and a ripe opportunities for militant groups to recruit jobless young men (and women). You're right, even though at times we all get baited unfortunately. It's just a great general rule to ignore people whose clear and sole intent seems to be to continually provoke.- The Politics Thread
This is going to sound mean but I don't believe that that #1 Troll is who they claim to be. Sorry but I don't believe you. I'm going to use a phrase that Trumpists like to use "Picture... or it [your claim] doesn't exist". FYI folks there are many 'fake Black people' trolling around on social media so I think I have a right to be suspicious of someone who has posted about the stock market incessantly but shows absolutely no knowledge or facility of the issues that have affected Black people in this country or worldwide. Sorry but I don't buy it. At all. Call me a 'Doubting Thomas' if you must.- The Tennis Thread

The 35 year olds really had their day today! I was especially happy for Feliciano given how often he'd either gotten to the Finals or the late rounds of Queens only to come up just a little short. So Congrats! Whatever Deliciano is doing under those covers is clearly working for him!- Another World Discussion Thread
@adrnycCome to think of it, since AW ended in '99, PGP ideally would include the best storyline from its last years on air on that list. ATWT, OTOH- they can put '96 and beyond on the backburner for that show. I guess each show would be different in this process and ideally you'd need different people in charge of digitizing the episodes from from each soap. I bet a good, effective and targeted crowdfunding effort could raise the funds to hire people to do this. If someone did this right, very little of the money to do this would have to come out of PGP's coffers (since we know they don't give a damn, let alone want to spend $$$). A small crew of technologically savvy "digitizers" could be in charge of this effort and some of that raised money could go toward paying them and even college students could assist, either for college credit during the summer and/or a small stipend. I mean, it would take some time but time will pass on its own regardless. Might as well use it to do something to make some people happy. If there was truly a will, there would be a way to make it happen. Too bad the will is lacking.- Another World Discussion Thread
I see what you mean but era is different than storylines. Storylines are very specific while era encompasses a much wider swath of years. I think many of their post 2001 episodes are already digitized so I don't think they would have to do much work there. I'd also omit '96-'00 (or at least de-prioritize them) for the moment and focus on what preceeded those years in terms of most requested storylines.- Another World Discussion Thread
Knowing how P&G and PGP ran their TV production company, I cannot say that it surprises me. They began to disregard their TV properties in the 90s and beyond. Instead of seeing their soaps as assets, they regarded them as former "cash cows" that needed to be put out to pasture. Truly disrespectful. I keep hoping that someone at that company would sprout some vision and find a way to 'make good' on the treasure trove of classic soaps in their library but so far, PGP has shown themselves to be lacking vision. I know that at one time Roger Newcomb, site owner of the We Love Soaps blog used to post here and he was involved in assisting with the short-lived Soap Classics effort and he mentioned how much of a challenge it was in finding and digitizing the Master reels of episodes of the surviving episodes (1979 and beyond). This would be labor-intensive, for sure, but considering they've already done some episodes and all episodes beyond 2002 are probably already digital-ready, it's not completely impossible. At the very least, they could stream and/or work with a substation (like Get TV, Decades or RetroTV, even though less people get RetroTV these days) to show some episodes just to test the waters. Even if PGP made a list of the most requested storylines and considered streaming them, that could be possible. You Tube, Yahoo Screen!, AOL, all have streaming platforms and they could even run ads but PGP hasn't had that type of dedication for the soaps since the 80s when soaps were bringing in buckets of $$ and PGP has long since stopped caring about respecting the loyalty of soap fans.- The Politics Thread
No big surprise but more Trump supporters now say they feel betrayed. Carrier workers facing layoffs feel betrayed by Trump- The Politics Thread
I meant to post this earlier but didn't have the time, then got wrapped up in so many other things. This article is somewhat interesting because it discusses the fact that the U.S.' lack of engagement under Trump has changed how other countries are structuring their trade deals compared to when Obama was President. Europe and Japan Near Trade Deal as U.S. Takes Protectionist Path Although there are big trade deals underfoot involving Asian countries like Japan and China with the EU, they seem to be ignoring issues like environmental and worker protections. During the Obama administration, trade deals seemed to be structured to add protections against things like over-fishing, tightening up lax standards in the timber industry and implementing rules against exploitation of factory workers with the countries that the U.S. was entering into trade agreements with. And as a result other countries seemed to do likewise. The implication is that now that the Trump administration has show indifference toward things like human rights, environmental standards, other countries have also backed off pursuing some type of standards for these things in formulating their trade agreements. So now the 'virtuous cycle' in trade deals seems to have dissipated after the departure of the Obama administration, for the time being.- The Politics Thread

Bittersweet photo. On the one hand, it's a nice acknowledgement, albeit a diminished one. No Don Hastings, Kathryn Hays and Eileen Fulton. No Grant Aleksander. I'm suprised they couldn't get Kim Zimmer. I guess they were making do with who was available. I'm glad to see some representation from ATWT and GL however reduced.- The Politics Thread
Yeah, I was just reading about this. About a week ago, I think some other news outlet mentioned that the FBI was taking a look into something to do with Jane Sanders.
