  1. Looks like I'll be skipping the NYT entirely tomorrow.
  2. I can't even speak for most of them. The only realistic prospects that the U.S. women had were Venus, Madison, CoCo and maybe Sloane, with Shelby and Alison only with a good draw having an outside chance at the second week. So far Madison is really the only one left, I believe. I'm going to exclude Venus, who is 37 and has Sjogren's which is a wildly unpredictable disease. I also wonder if the madness of her previous season has made it a challenge for her to reset herself for this season. The last time Sloane won a match (anywhere), Serena's daughter was still practically in utero. She also lost the doubles match with Genie Bouchard but they were unlikely to beat Makarova and Vesnina anyway. CoCo went CoCo (see the video posted above). Alison Riske had an actual chance against Kirsten Flipkens. Unfortnately, Riske pulled a Christina McHale, who is usually on the brink of winning before managing to lose. McHale was a non-factor in her own match, but frankly, I no longer look for great results from her anyway.
  3. One of the reasons why I'm glad I still use Firefox as my main browser. And thankfully, it's faster these days.
  4. This is scary. That in the wrong hands, a set nuclear policy can be re-written to be much more aggressive with a lower set of criteria for an attack. “Almost everything about this radical new policy will blur the line between nuclear and conventional,...will make nuclear war a lot more likely.” Pentagon Suggests Countering Devastating Cyberattacks With Nuclear Arms
  5. I think I was the only one who was not surprised by Luksika Kumkhum's straight sets victory over Belinda Bencic. In fact, I was expecting it. Bencic put everything she had into beating Venus, then had little left. Kumkhum, on the other hand saw that she wasn't going to face Venus and took one look and Bencic and likely said (in her mind) "I can take this match".
  6. Apparently Steve Bannon was giving testimony before the House Judiciary Committee for at least 11 hours today. Wonder what was said during that session?
  7. If nothing else, people will have to reassess what it considered acceptable and unacceptable boundaries because it can often be somewhat vague.
  8. Right next to the Trump piñatas.
  9. Despite Trump's constant effort to force the idea of any government shutdown being the Democrats' fault, this poll seems to suggest otherwise.
  10. This is true, lol. The other day, someone tweeted (only) half-jokingly "Witch doctors, you know what to do!".
  11. I cannot wait to see what the contents of this will be!
  12. Apparently now there is a backlash against the article, with some decrying the "revenge porn" tone of the subject's account.
  13. The GOP is coming for the employer mandate of the ACA next. Individual Mandate Now Gone, G.O.P. Targets the One for Employers
  14. She also yelled an audible obscenity. Despite the fact that I don't like Babos, I don't find this to be at all funny. I'm glad for Nishioka, by the way.
  15. CoCo has the flu? Why the hell is she playing? She probably infected a dozen people on the way to the match!
  16. Nobody's really writing/talking about this.
  17. I'll admit that the mid-late 90s were very busy for me and I probably missed quite a few episodes, including this anniversary episode but the montage was fun (although a few clips were a bit cheesy). How many characters do y'all recognize?
  18. Um, no. That's Ajit Pai, the chairman of the FCC. This article is about Aziz Ansari, a comedian best known for his role on Parks and Recreation (which I admit to only watching 2 episodes) and his Netflix series Master of None (which I've yet to watch).
  19. I posted about this days ago, but this is a followup to the news that a federal judge ruled against Trump's halting of DACA renewal applications. The government has now started accepting applications for renewals again! DACA Participants Can Again Apply for Renewal, Immigration Agency Says
  20. Roselyn Sanchez (Pilar, ATWT) is in a thriller called Traffik co-starring Omar Epps, Paula Patton and Laz Alonso.
  21. Speaking of social media, Tulsi Gabbard's tweet was the only warning that this was a false alarm?!! Lord, have mercy. And where are the feds?? Talk about no body minding the store! EDT--I just read that about half an hour or so, the state sent out an alert that this was a false alarm but in the meantime people were hiding closets, sending messages to loved ones saying goodbye.
  22. Have they even completed Qualies yet?
  23. Eliza Dushku's revelations, I feel sorry for that poor young girl. That feel that the minute you hit puberty (and sometimes earlier) and the predators have already zeroed in on you.
  24. Was this mandated? Or a personal choice? I think there is a Royal Twitter account, Kensington Palace, that covers all the young royals. I'm not sure if it's an official account but they sure do seem to release information that only the royal Palaces would be privy to.
