There is no comparison between someone grabbing at your clothes exposing your breast and someone putting out a planned and published sex book. None. And any attempt to equate the two as if they are one in the same is obtuse thinking. If we examine and believe Janet's words (unless you don't believe her when she said that it was an unfortunate accident, unplanned-(if you don't take her at her word, then that is another matter entirely) then one would have to acknowledge that the backlashes was something entirely different from what Madonna faced from publishing her Sex book and doing Justify My Love (using an unauthorized sample). I do think it's funny that despite Janet trying to give Justin Timberlake some public cover from the years of backlash from her fans, the Black community are still like "We love you Jan, but nah, we're never letting him off the hook, he's still on the $hit list for that".

Seeing this documentary makes me wonder if the light and fluffy, frou frou fare was more about not engaging in any type of heavy, emotional matter during a difficult time in her life, a kind of means of self-care. Not everyone wants to pour all their emotional pain into their artistic work all the time. It may not have worked for her creatively or what fans have come to expect but maybe psychically it may have been what she needed. Also, enduring a kind of soft blackballing during Michael's trial and allegations and hard blackballing after the Superbowl fiasco, she may have felt the need to not make waves, including creatively. Just something to consider. From the outside looking in, people may have assumed that Janet was a very powerful woman, but we can see from Coca-Cola pulling their offer that was on the table because of allegations against her brother and not her as well as the fact that, during the post Superbowl fiasco period, seemingly only Tyler Perry (and a few other musicians, mainly rappers) wanted to work with her, should tell you what an artistic bind Janet was likely. She may have made some concessions in order to not make waves.

FWIW, Irna Phillips was not at all known to be a nice person, some people would call her downright tyrannical. It's also a fact that without her, television in the daytime would consist of game shows and maybe a Kelly and Ryan type talk show. Daytime has a more complicated legacy than people realize.

From what I have seen (and I haven't seen all the match), Daniil is really running Rafa ragged.

Seeing Julie Chen talking about the incident in that segment dealing with the Superbowl irritated me. I could feel a frown coming onto my mouth. Knowing about how much vitriol she got from CBS and Moonves.

Barty is very bland. Still, I don't hate her, I don't even dislike her. It's probably not the first time this has happened but it's still strange to discover that Danielle Collins played an entire major final without a clothing or shoe sponsor.

For whatever this is worth because market value is a different thing than actual gross profits. But at the very least, the "titans" of Wall Street may just pay attention.

Between the banning of books that tell "uncomfortable" histories and corporate news media failing the public at large, I can only shake my head at the sad potential for further ignorance and erosion of decent quality public discourse, let alone sensible collective action.

I only caught a few games of the men's final but figured that Barty was not going to let this moment pass, she would have her Murray moment. I also figured Kokkinakis and Kyrgios would take the men's doubles trophy. I'm sure it's a big deal for Australian sports fans. Like, I said before, they are not missing a thing with any player's absence.

The viewers who are already watching, watch, it's unlikely that they will substantially expand their audience at this point, let alone convert any former ATWT fans, so I think, at this point, they're just trying to maintain what viewers they do have, similar to the rest of daytime. If only P&G would follow the Bells and allow uploads of ATWT onto a dedicated YouTube page. Between the years when they had the AOL portal and when the SoapClassics people digitized all those episodes for DVDs and streaming on their sites, P&G likely has many episodes (although I would just start with the 1980s) and they could just do analog with the rest, similar to B&B.

It wouldn't surprise me. They may feel that it serves as a reminder that they are the show that replaced ATWT. Years ago, I got the impression that they were trying to court former ATWT fans but at this point, after multiple scandals to which some fans have asked "They replaced my soap for this?!", The Talk may decide not to bother anymore.

Ouch, and Ming has always been so open about her time on ATWT. She did a reunion livestream last year and for the Mulan anniversary and live action movie, she even mentioned how both she and Lea Salonga (the singing voice of Mulan in the animated movie) both played the role of Lien Truong. The Talk is so disrespectful, lol, they don't do their research.

Oh wow, well that's interesting and the NBC role is more than something to consider. I admit, I don't know that much about the business machinations of Days. I wonder if NBC will even keep keep tighter control over what ads will be allowed to run. I like the fact that movie trailers as well as classic commercials sometimes run during B&B: From The Beginning. I am not sure how intentional this is though, lol but I like that they sometimes choose to just go with the flow. Of course, sometimes quality control is absent but oh well, it's free content, what're you gonna do?

From the clips I saw, Janet said it was always Michael's song and she was supporting him on that. I am always interested in how others engage in the writing and creative process, and it was interesting to see Janet on her laptop, typing away while Michael threw around the lyrics of "Scream", which Janet chided him for dropping an "F-bomb" in the lyrics (which would be replaced with the lyric "the whole system sucks" instead of the F-word). Honestly, the clip of Janet's session with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis for the Rhythm Nation album looked a whole lot more contentious by comparison.

Very very interesting. The Bold And The Beautiful effect, would you say? I ask because I have noticed that B&B gets daily engagement on their YouTube channel. Also with their uploads, they have likely been able to monetize much of their content and of course, stream all kinds of ads since YouTube is sort of agnostic (other than Google) when it comes to media and other brands. I have seen ads from Amazon, Netflix, HBO Max, NBC, Paramount+, Hulu, even A24, and a whole host of brands (Vrbo, Buick). I have joked that B&B From The Beginning is probably getting a better variety of ads than what today's B&B gets on network. Moving to YouTube will probably be more lucrative or at least a more seamless platform than to deal with maintaining their own app, imo. What do you think @Errol?

That's a good question for someone in the family to answer, lol. From what I have understood and inferred, Janet was not confiding in Latoya because she talked too much. Yeah, from what I gathered it wasn't a rift, it was that Michael was in a very different place, in that he literally wasn't around for much of the time because his career was becoming white hot. He no longer seemed to have the time or frame of mind for the simple things like hanging out with family. Of course I remember Latoya talking about this. She had alienated the family and named her abusive husband as the reason for this. Having said that Janet implied that she couldn't confide in her. You can love someone and repair the relationship and still feel cautious as to how much you can trust them. It's not a great feeling but it's human nature.

TBH, I don't think she's as close with LaToya. I remember after her divorce with René, I got the distinct impression that LaToya didn't even know she had been married...for 9 years!

Janet was such an adorable baby girl. It's obvious that this documentary has been in the making for years. I am always fascinated by docs that have so much unseen archival footage. That someone who is among one of the most followed and photographed/filmed pop stars out there still has all that footage hidden away. To hear how the "neighbors" didn't want the family in their neighborhood after the Jacksons moved to California. Being called racial epithets and the microaggressions- I shouldn't be surprised with this being America but my image of the Jackson family was one where, once they signed with Motown and were living in California was as celebrities. Seems that the reality was quite different. It was obvious that her marriage to James was troubled and that James had problems. I would really like to know why he rode that hidden child rumor for so long, but that's really something only James can answer. This obviously still pains Janet. I wonder how much of that relationship she has managed to make piece with, and how much is still an open wound. Janet's relationship with Rene always seemed mysterious but towards the end of their relationship (marriage but nobody knew then) there were ominous signs that he was a looming figure who might have had too much of a creative hand in her career. I was never sure if he was a boyfriend, bodyguard or some sort of manager or a collaborator. I'm not sure that the relationship was ever a right time or right relationship for Janet. Sound like his rampant drug use put her through hell.

And the so-called "Movie Star" is currently on the cover of the special *Actors On Actors" edition of Variety Magazine. 👀

Is the inference supposed to be that Noah still has romantic feelings for Tessa?! The only feelings Noah should feel towards Tessa are revulsion and maybe a growing suspicion about Tessa's fidelity. Have Noah decide he's going to expose this. Do something to add some element of tension. Something. This is all so bland. 🤣 Every time I have read a spoiler or story projection for Y&R for the last few years, it sounds exactly like this!
