  1. Fearless DID come out November 11th, 2008. I have a lot to say right now, but some of you won't like all of it, and I don't feel like getting shanked by a hardcore group of Swifties right now, so I'll just focus on the music for now, and hope it's really good. I'll leave whatever rage I may have for later on.
  2. AMEN. Gabrielle will ALWAYS be Max's one true love to me. Yes, I'm pretty sure PL created Lindsay. And, to be honest, even though I like Nora overall, I have always more or less liked Lindsay. I LOVED the story where she went to Statesville, and she and Allison Perkins were trying to figure out how to escape together.
  3. She was, for almost all of 1999 after Pam Long was let go (although apparently Harding Lemay was consulting her in some way, somehow). ABC finally forced her to hire someone near the end of 1999, so she brought on Megan McTavish as her lap dog, er I mean her HW.
  4. She was the one there when Todd punched Tea in the face, which makes me think JFP snuck that in or something, because I could only see Pam Long writing something like that if she intended to break a couple up afterwards, not, you know, actually get married again (I know, that blew up at the reception, but still). I thought Harding Lemay only became a consultant once Jill became de facto HW in 1999. I could be wrong, though.
  5. My state--Maryland--would like to have a word with you on that one. Steve Scalise was the Congressman shot. Regardless of how divided our country is, violence is NEVER the answer. I hope everyone injured there, and especially Congressman Scalise, makes a quick recovery. This is very touching. http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/337719-dem-baseball-team-praying-for-colleagues-after-shooting
  6. Tom Perriello is a good guy, and I think he can still run for another office someday and win. Meanwhile, the GOP race is a dead heat. I completely take back what I said about Gillespie running away with it. I KNEW that might bite me in the ass. Here's the website Virginia Public Access Project (VPAP), which includes maps of support for each candidate. Perfect for the political nerd in your life like myself. http://www.vpap.org/
  7. It's...not a perfect comparison. For one, Tom has quite a few people supporting him who supported Hillary, who are IN NO WAY Bernie Bros (both people who specifically worked for her and people in VA that I know personally). But honestly, I'm Team Switzerland here. I'm happy with either one.
  8. This article is good, too: https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2017/06/virginia-primary-2017-governors-race-perriello-northam/530082/
  9. Happy Primary Day, Virginia! I really hope this race gets more attention now that the primary will be over after tonight, because, as I've said before, the post-Trump election season (not just special elections) really begins this year, not 2018, and Virginia's gubernatorial race is proof of that. It is, by far, the most high profile example of a state that has elections of some form or another every year, due to the amendment in the state constitution barring sitting Governors from seeking another term in office. (They CAN, however, seek NON-consecutive terms in office--some have tried in the past.) For some weird reason, though, Lieutenant Governors CAN seek consecutive terms. Not sure why the difference exists there, but there you go. From what I understand, the real thing to watch tonight--perhaps to no one's surprise--is which of the Democratic candidates wins Northern Virginia (the GOP candidate is all but assured at this point). Ralph Northam--who is from the Eastern Shore of VA--has bases in Metro Richmond and Hampton Roads (which is close to the Eastern Shore), while Tom Perriello, from the Charlottesville area, has his bases in the area known as the Southside (the part of VA south of the James River--Lynchburg, home of the infamous Liberty University, is located there--and this area is really just south of Charlottesville), Southwest (which includes Blacksburg, home of Virginia Tech), and the Shenandoah Valley area. Northern Virginia is the wild card. And I can't help but wonder, with how Democratic NOVA has increasingly become, if that just might be enough for either Dem to carry the state, as both Obama and Hillary did. Especially since Ed Gillespie doesn't exactly strike me as a candidate with much appeal (but with the GOP candidates who have won office recently, what do I know now?). Luckily, for me, since I'm next door in Maryland, AND I get DC stations, that makes it even easier for me to keep track of the race tonight,
  10. I'll admit that I've been a fan of Bill Maher since I was in college--I started watching him regularly in 2009, when I was 20--and while this season has made me even more frustrated than ever before, I really can't believe he went that far. Interestingly enough, he and Kathy Griffin (who I also love, for the record, and who I feel deserves WAY less vitriol than she's gotten, especially compared to what Bill did--not that I agree with she did, mind you) have been friends for years, and I almost want to believe he did this intentionally to get the heat off of her (almost). Either way, he was VERY stupid and tone deaf to say it at all. The fact that BOTH of them have now apologized--something both have publicly boasted about NOT doing in the past, in terms of their comedy--is pretty damn telling. Also, hi, guys. Sorry I haven't been around in awhile. Even though I love and am involved with politics, sometimes even I get overwhelmed. And I was afraid at times that my at times very Pollyanna-like outlook about the future might get in the way in legitimate worry (I have to stay somewhat positive, though--the alternative would eat me alive). I do love you guys, though, and will try to keep up more with this thread again.
  11. RIP, Dr. Z! http://www.cnn.com/2017/05/26/politics/zbigniew-brzezinski-dead/
  12. Or, to paraphrase Bette Davis' quote upon Joan Crawford's passing: "Roger Ailes is dead. Good."
  13. His downfall wasn't even a year ago. Wow.
  14. I honestly think he would be a strong candidate, but as this article points out, that's assuming if he ever wants to make the jump into politics. But I promise I won't comment on this past posting this article, unless one of you asks a question/something actually happens regarding this in the future.. With my admittedly strong pro-Dem and pro-Cub bias, you guys have earned the right to either ignore me or beat me over the head with a frying pan for bringing this up. http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2017/04/26/could-theo-epstein-perform-a-miracle-for-the-democrats-215069?cmpid=sf
  15. And here's the Sam Bee version: This is really embarrassing, but I used to have a HUGE crush on Tucker Carlson despite myself when I was a teenager, despite disagreeing with almost everything he said even then. I thought he was so cute. Now I just wish someone would choke him with his bow tie. My former Governor made him his bitch in an interview a few months ago, though. It was glorious.
  16. The current administration? Yes. CNN? Not to sound too un-cynical to be here (I need to work on it more!), but I genuinely don't think so, even if it's just because of the sponsors he lost.
  17. "New number, who dis?"--Me to Bernie reading this article. Over it. http://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/329418-sanders-i-do-not-consider-myself-a-democrat
  18. Thank you! I have a feeling they did, though. The timeline is too coincidental otherwise.
  19. Kansas being in such disarray because of Brownback may lead to changes in spite of this loss, though. It may go back and forth between sudden (there were some Democratic gains there in the legislature last year) and gradual.
  20. If you haven't read Dan Rather's post, please do. He has been an oasis of common sense and thought since the last presidential election.
  21. Ask James & Kassie DePaiva how that worked out when OLTL left ABC in 2012. Yep, still bitter. (JDP was on the show WAY before KDP, and despite fan interest in bringing him back for the end, wasn't never even asked to return. So it's sort of similar to the Maura and Scott situation here.) Anyway, I was just passing by of curiosity here, and noticed that. Carry on. ETA: I lied. One more thing. The idea about Tom & Margo and their various and sundry actors passing through sounds great, but with HBS still on OLTL at the time, securing that for her, even for a few seconds/minutes, might have been impossible.
  22. Seen yesterday at Opening Day at Nationals Park:
  23. I know this was mentioned already as being Joe Wilson, but irrelevant politicians are EXACTLY the kind of thing I remember. I've had a good memory since I was a child, so I can retain an astonishing amount of political/TV/etc. trivia. Not to brag or anything. Aw, I miss Muppet Babies.
  24. I've mentioned this before, but I've always assumed that the name River was a tribute to River Phoenix (at least on the part of the writing staff). The timeline between his death and Cassie discovering River at St. James is just too close to be a mere coincidence. It's not like his name really took off for baby boys until after he died.
  25. From last night's show: A happy ending to a story Sam first reported on a year ago--and proof that, sometimes, it IS possible to find bipartisanship in these troubled times, even in Georgia!
