Trump truly is Nixon with all of the paranoia, but none of the intelligence to back it up. (In other news, water is wet, but still.)

Found this inappropriately funny, "talk to Eric" (Not that he's wrong, though. The other guy, not Doug.)

Weirdly enough, the 30th anniversary of his suicide was on January 22nd of this year. If any of you haven't seen the documentary on his life, Honest Man, you should. Heartbreaking and sad, but worth checking out, IMO.

I don't always agree with George Will, but my respect for him has increased tenfold since he left the Republican Party and refused to vote for Trump: https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/post-partisan/wp/2017/01/20/a-most-dreadful-inaugural-address/?utm_term=.467ad690344e Van Jones was awesome. This was when we were still out of seeing distance of a Jumbotron, so I may have to pull up his speech on YT and watch it again, but from what I remember he was great. I grew up 5 minutes from St. Mary's College. Oh, I forgot to mention! At one point a bunch of BLM activists walked right across the middle of the area my group and I were in during the rally--including Jesse Jackson! He went right by me. Pretty cool.

Josh Kushner? Yes, he supported Hillary. He's also the boyfriend of model/Taylor Swift's alleged secret lesbian lover, Karlie Kloss. Anyway, sorry I've taken so long--I had a lot of things I wanted to say, but I couldn't quite figure out how to organize my thoughts at first--but here are my thoughts on the march: I was at the march yesterday in DC. Like a few of the others, it got so big that the march itself was held much MUCH later--I came with a large group of men and women from Maryland that included of total of five buses, and we had a set time for when we had to meet up and leave DC, which meant that we didn't have as much time to march as we would have hoped. There were many people later on who got upset when the speeches kept going, and the march itself was further delayed (not to mention the RIDICULOUS bathroom situation--there were several port-a-potties, but it got to the point where it seemed there was one available for every few miles, which drove us crazy), which led many people there (myself included later on, I'll admit) to yell "Let us march!"--people were leaving, and our feet were killing us for standing still for so many hours. *ahem* But, that said: I am forever grateful that I got to go. There were some wonderful speakers there, including Gloria Steinem and Van Jones, but my two favorites were Ashley Judd's and Janelle Monae's--very, very powerful. And I have to confess that I cheered on Madonna's speech yesterday, in part because I didn't know she was going to be there, but also because she started to speak shortly after we FINALLY got the chance to move and start marching after God knows how many hours we had to stand still, so I felt a bit revived at that point (and by then, we were FINALLY in eyesight of a Jumbotron!). However, the f bombs were a bit too much, and while I understand what she meant by her White House comments, she still should've thought twice about what she said there too. Lastly, I want to mention the signs. What amazing creative signs there were yesterday. I didn't have one myself, but my group more than made up for that. (And for the record, I was/am a Hillary supporter. From 2008 to today, and always. I have no idea what any of the Bernie or Busters were trying to do, but I sure as hell had no part of any of that.)

Meanwhile, the Blonde Birthday Skeletor (Yes, today is her 50th birthday! Hope you're proud of yourself, hon! ) chose an...interesting outfit for today's "festivities": As for me, I'll be showering and going to bed early to prepare tomorrow's march in DC! I'm a bit nervous, but also very excited, and comforted that I will be going up there with five buses full of people from Southern Maryland, ready to make our voices heard. Bring it! Also, Bill Maher's birthday is today, AND his show is back tonight! I can't wait.- The Politics Thread
I'm still a hopeless Bill Clinton fan girl. My family is from Arkansas, and he was my childhood president. Those roots run deep for me.- The Politics Thread
I just wanted to tell you guys that I am officially participating in the Women's March on Washington this Saturday morning! I'm from Maryland, so it's not as far for me as it is for many others who are going--only about an hour and a half or two away from home for me--but this is a big deal for me and I am very excited to be participating. There are four buses leaving my home county for the march, and I feel lucky that I was able to get a spot on one of them to go; had I not been able to get a spot; I still would've watched it all on TV, but I would've been sad if I hadn't been able to go. Also, without giving away too much, I've been pretty active with Democratic politics for a long time now, so this sort of thing is something I plan to continue, especially now.- The Politics Thread
What's weird is that for a long time, he was actually a registered Democrat. In fact, in 2004, while he endorsed Bush for President, he also endorsed then-Congressman Dan Boren in Oklahoma's 2nd Congressional District. Now to be honest, neither of those things are THAT unusual--Until about a decade ago, there were still more registered Democrats in Oklahoma than registered Republicans, despite the state's long time status as a Republican stronghold on a presidential level (and increasingly on a statewide and local level), and the 2nd Congressional District--the Eastern half of Oklahoma (not including Tulsa), also known as "Little Dixie"--has long been considered the most Democratic area of the state, so I can see how many people there would vote for a Republican president, while also voting for Democrats in the down ballot races (although, again, this has since changed). I mean, the state DID elect Democrat Brad Henry as Governor twice, as recently as 10-15 years ago. That said, Dan Boren was probably the most conservative Democratic member of Congress when he served there (his father--former Senator David Boren--is the far superior public servant in the family), and when he decided not to run again in 2012, the seat predictably became Republican. And Toby Keith himself, I believe, is now an Independent, although some Republicans are known for claiming to be Independents publicly, so...make of that what you will. Anyway, I'm sorry, I got a bit off the rails here, but I will say, despite the fact that not one Oklahoma county has voted for a Democratic candidate for president (in a general election, that is) since 2000 (where Al Gore won eight counties), I have always tried to have some hope for your home state, Khan. I have heard things in the past about how Oklahoma City/Oklahoma County may VERY slowly, but surely, be drifting towards the Democrats, though that may be going slower to some extent than Texas' supposed drift to the blue column. And on a personal level, when I was a kid, there were several times when I was visiting my grandparents in Arkansas--who lived near the Oklahoma border--where we would cross the state line into Oklahoma. I know it has its flaws, but as a Democrat who has been active in local politics, I want to see more areas of the country become competitive, so I'm trying to stay positive and encourage people to become involved, especially now. It's about all I can do. And on a side note: even though Mary Fallin may be awful, I remember in 2010, seeing her and Jari Askins running for Governor, and thinking, as a young woman, how cool it was that, no matter which one of them was elected, Oklahoma would have their female Governor. I'm sentimental like that, I guess.- The Politics Thread
And 3 Doors Down, who I used to like when I was in seventh grade back in 2001-2002, and while I was a little embarrassed to still like their song "Here Without You" after all these years, now I have ANOTHER reason to be embarrassed! Oh well.- The Politics Thread
My motto since last year's election has been "Don't assume anything." I feel like it's important to keep it alive throughout this administration, too. (Not that I always followed it myself, mind you--I still wound up blind sighted by Election Night in a big way.)- The Politics Thread

The one that upset me most was 3 Doors Down. The 13 year old seventh grade girl in me who loved "Kryptonite" and "Here Without You" is devastated. Performing for Bush is one thing, but this is different. Sigh.- The Politics Thread
On a much, much MUCH brighter, and much needed, note: My favorite team, the 2016 World Series Champion Chicago Cubs are coming to the White House on Monday! http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/18447936/president-barack-obama-host-chicago-cubs-white-house-monday This means that, yes, they will visiting Obama, and while this may have a lot to do with his connection to Chicago (even though he's a White Sox fan--hey, nobody's perfect, lol), a lot of people think this might also be an intentional snub to Trump, too. (The Ricketts family, who owns the Cubs, actually includes members of both parties--Laura Ricketts has campaigned and donated for Obama and Hillary, and Pete Ricketts is the Republican Governor of Nebraska (his wife notably voted for Hillary, though). Tom Ricketts, meanwhile, has the unfortunate distinction of looking like Ted Cruz's long-lost twin brother). I'm pretty certain Jake Arrieta--one of their best pitchers--is a Trump supporter, but it looks like he's just going to have to get over that come Monday.- The Politics Thread

Yes, Frank had been there a year when Michael Storm was dropped. And I still hate how JDP got shafted. And Max still had friends like Cord, Tina, and Renee he could have visited in 2011/2012 when the show was leaving ABC; he didn't need to have a big return story or anything. I know Gary Tomlin got Larry involved a bit when Blair was pregnant with Jack. He seemed to at least care a little about Larry's existence. And sigh, Jim & Fiona. I miss them so much.- One Life to Live Tribute Thread
Part of me feels like Larry would have continued to be treated as an important character had Judith Light stayed on the show. It feels like whatever value he had, the show felt he lost once Larry & Karen were no longer together, which is just wrong, because he was so much more than Karen's betrayed husband. WAY more. He should have been treated in the same light that Erika was treated--he was there two full years before she was, FFS.- One Life to Live Tribute Thread
