  1. She's also excellent in the scenes with Kim after Dan died. I am not surprised they recast her as this was when P&G was trying to cast more generically attractive actors for young parts but to me she and Lindsay are the two best Betsys and they both have that subdued quality which fits the part given all of Betsy's losses. I remember a story Meg Ryan told (when she was still on ATWT) in an interview about early on in her tenure she was at an event and she was pointed out to the crowd, and she barely got any response, because fans still missed Davidson (which likely doomed the Betsy in between them). Of course Ryan won people over quickly enough. Ironically the time that Pat Bruder was dumped is when Ellen could have had more relevance than she'd had for a number of years (at one point she was just there to hold Courtney's hand), given that Susan and Emily were feuding, and Emily was making threats about going for custody of Alison. This was also when Dani, Ellen's great-granddaughter, had arrived in town. I think Dani initially lived with her and had scenes with her. They should have done what they did with Emma - she was put on recurring but still made appearances. Instead, she was just dumped, although Lorraine Broderick, to her credit, brought Ellen back a few times in 1998. That was it, sadly. I don't even remember her being mentioned after that period. It would have been interesting to me if one of the quads came back in the '00s and Ellen took them in and they confided in her that they were a lesbian, or struggling with their gender identity, and there was conflict as Ellen accepts them, but Annie doesn't. (I know they did this with Lily, Luke and Lucinda, but all stories are repeat stories, and I didn't care about Lily or Luke that much anyway) Speaking of Stewart banishments, I noticed that IMDB and Soapcentral did not have Dee or Annie returning for David's funeral (although Soapcentral mentioned it in Dee's bio). I had to actually go back and check to make sure they were there. Another reminder of how unreliable IMDB is, I suppose. I wasn't a huge fan of either '80s Dee but I got the sense Jacqueline Schultz was the popular Dee (and I think I would have liked her more too if not for the incredibly lethargic and depressing stories and atmosphere surrounding her...and constantly being preyed on by creepy older men). I wonder if she didn't return in 1991 because of her split from Larry Bryggman. Vicky Dawson is a perfectly fine performer from what I remember but her more upbeat demeanor is an odd fit for this occasion. (I remember reading that Melanie Smith only JUST managed to return - so glad she did as a recast Betsy and a recast Emily would have been tough to take)
  2. By the time of the 1983 episodes when he and Morgan break up, he already seems to be written sympathetically, especially considering only a year before he was heavily pursuing her when she was vulnerable and just married. I don't know if Josh was ever a very likeable character (I remember being disgusted when his response to Reva trying to win him back post return from the dead was shaming her for being sexually abused as a young girl), but they seemed to drop the complete baddie routine after Marland's departure. I like him more in his last few years (although I haven't watched closely) but I find him difficult to stomach under Marland. He seems so toxic and the way he treats Nola (annoying as she may have been) bothers me - constant berating. When watching the Quola clips a while back I noticed that he becomes nicer toward her almost as soon as Marland goes. I figure this must be why he had a guest spot on Cybill. At least she remembered him. Derek/Vanessa would have been a good pairing, if the show had gone there. Beyond being a plot mover for the "good" characters I am not sure exactly what plans Marland had for Vanessa. I have very mixed feelings about Ed. Peter Simon was my first Ed. I didn't see Mart Hulswit for many years. I truly did warm to him as soon as I saw him. Sometimes I change my opinion on a recast after seeing an earlier actor (I can't ever get much out of Peter Bergman as Jack after seeing Terry Lester), but I still connect with Simon when I see him in the part, even as the character can behave in an insufferable way. Simon is just such a strong, incisive actor. I think if I'd seen Hulswit first I would have a more difficult time with the change, as GL of all shows is the one I had the most harshly negative reactions toward recasts for (I never accepted the replacement Billy, and it took me years to get over the exits of Rachel Miner, Sherry Stringfield and Beverlee McKinsey - in Beverlee's case I never fully did). Gentry seemed OK when he came back but there wasn't much spark and there was not much of a family for him - you had the somewhat forced Michelle recast (Rebecca Budig), and Rick. I don't know what plans they had for Ed, but they gave up very quickly.
  3. I was mostly glad many of them seem to have tried to age naturally, so I can still recognize them. It's comforting to know that Julie Osburn still has the same smile and is what I could see Kathleen being at this stage of her life. I thought Russell Todd looked good as well for someone his age who was likely outdoors a lot. Alice Barrett also looked very good.
  4. I know some other versions of these photos were already posted but I'm not sure if the AWHP's 60th anniversary photos were. ANOTHER WORLD: 60TH ANNIVERSARY (anotherworldhomepage.com) Nice to see the turnout from a number of actors who were on the show in the late '60s and early '70s. I know Judith Barcroft was interviewed by WLS years ago and Barbara Rodell has a book coming out, but I hope some of the other vets of that era like Jordan Charney and Leonie Norton can be interviewed while there's a chance.
  5. I think he was one of many cleared out in 1982 after Marland left. He was very insecure of her obvious feelings for Tony. Per Soapcentral they broke up after she spent the night at Tony's (platonically). I wish they'd kept him around. He had a quiet wit and was attractive. I liked his quasi-friendship with Nola too.
  6. Those are great ideas. The show wrote Don into something of a corner but they could have easily tried. They just gave up, I guess because they thought he was too old. I'm surprised sometimes that P&G allowed the focus on David and Ellen.
  7. Hunt would have made much more sense as Rick. This was after her EON run. I wonder if he's ever talked about his ATWT work. Maybe some interviews in his early years at DAYS? I don't know. I guess hardcore Peter fans might know more. I put up a few clips of him a while back.
  8. I think I remember him best for his male stripper role in a TV movie called Ladykillers.
  9. This was probably put up at some point given the 7 years but I didn't remember seeing it so I will post it.
  10. Thanks. No wonder she was familiar. Who could forget twitchy Emily. I don't think I've seen a lot of Thomas' AW run but it's hard to believe they tried to pair him with Jacquie Courtney.
  11. Thanks @NothinButAttitude This period often has characters I barely know or don't know and seemingly had no impact on the canvas. Most of these doctors (aside from Jeff and ever sorrowful Annie), for instance. Gary Hudson was so different from Con Roche as Rick Ryan. They probably should have kept him on. I wonder if he did his own stunt at the end. The psychiatrist looks familiar. He reminds me of the annoying guy on the first season of Newhart, although I assume that's not him. I had to laugh at him showing off a ton of his chest hair...just because. Ah, the early '80s. The other doctors all blur to me. The woman at 5 minutes is so familiar to me too from elsewhere. Sofia is another of those interchangeable heroines of this period (I think she was soon replaced by Miranda's daughter Bilan), although she has more personality here than in the other bits I've seen of her. And Eric and Hayley, soon to leave. It's a credit to Karen that she managed to survive this churn. The material with David is interesting. Nice to see Henderson Forsythe getting to act. I also greatly enjoyed John downplaying and turning around his role in David's breakdown, as Lyla looks on in judgment. Anne Sward was a pro at those types of looks. Ellen always reminds me of a drum majorette in that outfit.
  12. I love that. Silent films used to have different hues for scenes to show the emotional state of the moment.
  13. @Franko Thanks for pointing that out. I wondered how long it lasted. I much prefer it to the squiggly corner lines - it adds more character. I appreciate the effort they made compared to most soaps, which often just threw them onscreen.
  14. @Forever8 @SFK @Paul Raven @Vee @slick jones @FrenchFan @vetsoapfan @Franko @Soapsuds @Khan @TheyStartedOnSoaps @j swift @soapfan770 Funny to hear Erica saying Kent is "a real Southern gentleman." She wouldn't be saying that much longer. I can see why they recast as he does not read as a cosmetics king at all, although he's not awful. Considering Lee Godart was allegedly one of the few co-stars Lucci didn't get along with (IIRC) I wonder how she felt about the change. Poor Donna is such a puppy dog for Chuck. This must be November 2 or 3.
  15. Luke is probably one factor. I think the Dobsons may have also been attempting to recreate Roger Thorpe and failing miserably. I'd give Calhoun and Susan Bedsow Horgan a lot of credit too. The show in late 1984/early 1985 seemed to improve markedly and many pieces they put in place Marland could use to his advantage. If he had taken over in 1982 or 1983 I'm not sure what might have happened. Even when you watch his work in the brief period he was writing around 1979, although it's much better than what is to come, the incredibly moribund nature of that time and the large amount of deadly dull characters shine through.
  16. You can see where Faux News is scrambling from not having as many connections to the rotting base of the alt right without Tucker there. Jesse Watters is also incapable of making his persona believable. The toxic elements are instead just road testing everything on social media and then it will eventually bubble up further. The one I saw going around on Twitter was faux outrage over some Kamala backers saying [!@#$%^&*] white women in an old video.
  17. Thanks so much @Forever8 Marcy Walker is chillingly good as Liza - all the more amazing that she managed to play Eden Capwell, such a different character. The way she knows just what to say to trigger the vile Enid is extremely strong writing. The acting in those scenes from Marcy and Natalie Ross is especially striking when compared to the poor work from Mike Minor later on... Speaking of Natalie Ross, I am assuming her last credit is NOT her, but can anyone confirm? Rage (1999) - IMDb
  18. I don't know what will happen but since you seemed to suggest I thought he was going to win big in PA, I was saying I think if he does it will just be by a few points. There's just too much for me surrounding Shapiro - the cover up stuff stinks of a lot of the Clinton era baggage which rightly or wrongly will overshadow him.
  19. Thanks for the Enten clip. The attempts at pushback were amusing. He is just a fundamentally awkward and deeply unlikeable person. His newest line about how Harris has a social media team who were bullied in school tells you how malevolent and insecure he is. I wouldn't claim he is up that much in PA. I do think it will be very tight in all those states and I won't be surprised if he wins them, but it won't be by more than a point or two. I just hope that type of polling doesn't influence a Shapiro choice, which seems like more and more of a bad bet.
  20. You're not wrong but compared to what we often get from that time (Barbara worrying, Betsy fluffing her lines, Steve flaring his nostrils, a high camp moment from Karen or Ariel, and then sometimes Margo and Tom), I wasn't sorry. I have to admit I am not really that enthused about seeing more of 1980 ATWT (this is about the Melinda clips) but I'm glad for the newest as it's the only time I have seen Melinda with Kim or Betsy. Given that I never even remember Kim mentioning her, I appreciated the moment. And I was reminded again of how much I prefer Suzanne Davidson in the role, although I'm not surprised they recast with a more typical ingenue.
  21. @Xanthe Thanks for the Italian video. I remember seeing one of those 4-5 years ago or more but could not remember the title. @mikeaw1978 Not sure if anything in that video can help AWHP.
  22. Any Peter Reckell fans may want to know he pops up a bit here in his ATWT part. There isn't a ton of his role there available online.
  23. Likely so, yes. It's OK. It's difficult to know about sites like that as they are good at fooling people. If you or anyone else ever want to see more of that particular story, the videos came from here: https://www.youtube.com/@WeLoveSoapsVideo
  24. The article (in spite of not being all that well written) was poignant in seeing how much Biden was trying to help other people even as he was being torn apart by many in his party and facing the end of his career. This is such a cynical country, but Biden has never been guilty of the same. So many responses to this have just been focusing on Republicans and Trump saying that this somehow "proves" Putin is afraid of Trump or trying to gin up outrage over an out of context clip over Kamala Harris chiding people for saying Merry Christmas. Biden knew he'd get nothing in return for his actions, but he did it anyway because it was the right thing to do. In a country full of so many people who worship Trump and would let everyone else burn, I should appreciate that while I can.
