What Are You Listening To?
Yessss! It's become somewhat of a Mardi Gras standard around these parts. It gets a LOT of play in bars after the night's parades have rolled. That smooth early 90s rap is one of the few varieties of the genre that I can really appreciate.

Nice seeing a feature on our "original" cast up there. I'm pretty sure all of Liz's dreams came true. I need to get back into watching this. I've basically missed two whole years, but it looks like conversation here tapered off big time once they got into late 1969. Since they put the show on the lineup, I've been waiting for Nancy Barrett's debut, which should be coming up soon.- Love of Life Discussion Thread
That brief clip of Bill playing guitar and singing for Tess is one of my favorite rarities from soap history, and it's such a great example of how very romantic, and intimately so, the soaps could be with their couples at the time. I could only imagine how real they felt to viewers at home, and it's really no wonder so many soap couples became real-life couples in the late 60s and early 70s. In order to really play that stuff to the hilt, you couldn't avoid getting so personally invested.- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
When they were all doing interviews for the 50th anniversary (which was, wow, 10 years ago already), I remember her kinda alluding to the fact that the early 80s were her favorite years on the show, so it fits with that. It's interesting because we know how most of the veteran cast (those who were already at vet status by then, at least) felt in that era.- What Are You Listening To?
It's odd how because of the way technology is set up nowadays, I can listen to this and say that these ladies were a big part of the soundtrack of my high school years.- Love of Life Discussion Thread
RIP to both McBride and Bua. I'm so thankful that we've been able to see at least a little bit of each actress's work, and of course, we're always wanting to see more of it. Both of them were huge leads in their respective eras.- As The World Turns Discussion Thread

Isn't Grant S. a regular on Devious Maids? I worry about Thomas Calabro. I always have this ominous feeling that he was bitter about the failure of 2.0, though I doubt he was that invested in it. And jesus right when I'm used to it being 2016, I see that his birthday has passed and now he's 57 years old. Man!- Fuller House
Nicky and Alex are both hot af but for the life of me, 20 years and 2 college degrees later, I still can not pronounce their real name.- The Lady Gaga Thread
Yes, the look was bizarre as hell!- What Are You Listening To?
A TV commercial uses this, and I almost like it more than the standard version of Gonna Fly Now.- All My Children Tribute Thread
What an excellent read. As interesting as his AMC comments were, the ODAAT stuff was even better. The episode where David has the affair and he and Ann argue is one of THE best episodes of the entire series, and how awesome to know that RM wrote much of the dialogue in its climax out of frustration.- Dynasty Discussion Thread
That's from the fantastic mini-series Bare Essence. Linda played Genie's mom. Great cast of early 80s TV stars including Donna MIlls, Bruce Boxleitner, Joel Higgins, and Lee Grant.- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
I think it was a blessing in disguise that they weren't always running frontburner stories for the older characters. They were able to take on the supporting roles that they were due to inherit, making it easy for the actors to continue to play them with the same spirit that they'd played them with for years. If they'd been hot commodities at the end, they would have been obliterated.- The Lady Gaga Thread
How was this missed?- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
I just happened upon the new 1972 episode (plus some AW goodies), and I have to say that I thought I'd NEVER get to see anything from the Dan/Susan era! What a fantastic episode! Marie Masters was in her prime, yet it was still quite obvious that this was the same actress and character that we were watching 35 years later. Such a treat!- Degrassi: The Next Generation
I just finished watching the other half of the season (are we correct in calling these 10 episodes the season? because...), and I'm game for more, so good job, nunuDegrassi! I will say that I think the arc as a whole felt a bit hollow. It's not really that they did too much in ten episodes -- the actual stories themselves didn't feel rushed at all, and the episodes all flowed very nicely, but they missed a TON of opportunities to do more with the characters to get them from where they were in Episode 1 to where they ended up in Episode 10. Granted, they only had ten episodes, and I have no idea if they even had the option to go for more, so I can't beat them up too much on that, but still. Hunter's descent into madness should have been the result of more than just getting his video game club shut down. Had they had more time, they could have explored his anger management issues and his interest in Yael. I don't get why they kept referring to Zig (who is a goddamn moron) and Zoe as having "fooled around" or "hooked up." They kissed. Was it an intense kiss? Was it making out? Yes! But were we supposed to assume that they went all the way on a log in the woods? I don't know. This might have been my least favorite of the continuing arcs simply because I don't understand what the point of it was. I get that Tristan and Miles have a good bit of history held over from TNG, so I was expecting more of them interacting with each other. There were nice moments, but it's pretty clear that that ship has sailed.- Degrassi: The Next Generation
To the show's credit, Liberty languished in supporting character hell with Toby for most of the heyday, I think, because they chose to focus on the more socially accepted characters. Toby and Liberty were the real nerds from the jump (whilst JT was more of a dork), and they got nothing. This was perfectly illustrated by them conducting a damn science experiment in the opening credits. Now what they did to Hazel was dead wrong.- Degrassi: The Next Generation
Oh, I like Miles. The actor isn't the best, but I like the character, and I see a lot of Craig Manning in him (though there are enough differences for him to not be a clone), which makes him very interesting to me. I just wish they'd spend just as much time developing the other characters, too. I generally like most of the characters. Shay is lame as fck, but once we saw her home life, it makes sense that she's such a goober. I didn't really like much of what I saw of Tristan back in the day, but he's tolerable here. Maya is giving me plenty of post-rape Paige vibes, but like with Miles, she's enough of her own character that I don't feel that she's a copy of anyone. The characters and stories are all perfectly fine right now, and I'm glad it's not a big merry-go-round of triangles and quads. The Muslim girl is giving me life. The sex has been amped up a bit, and I was kinda surprised by that, especially ol' girl (forgot her name) masturbating under her sheets. I appreciated the Zig/Maya sex story because that felt a lot like ol' school DTNG.- Degrassi: The Next Generation
I just watched the first 5 in a single sitting and generally enjoyed it. I'm glad the show is available in this format because it really does make watching it and keeping up with it much easier. A big thing I noticed is that the cast is TINY compared to the cast of any given season of TNG, and I can see both positives and negatives in it. Positively, it means we get to spend more time with the cast of characters we have, and hopefully that means more development. Also, there are no random irrelevant characters who are supposed to be regulars but do nothing and add nothing to the show (which was mainly a characteristic of latter-day TNG). On the other hand, one of the things that made TNG feel so real was that the cast was large and the characters didn't all know each other or hang out with each other. You could have an episode be about Paige and Spinner along with a completely unrelated story about JT and Liberty. It just made the school feel bigger, busier, and more alive. It's no huge deal, though, and it certainly marks a new era. Having three Hollingsworth siblings makes it feel like they're the central characters, and honestly, it feels like they're trying to make Miles THE lead of the show. I didn't watch the last few seasons of TNG at all, except for Cam's suicide, so Miles at the center of the show is taking some getting used to. Now that I'm a teacher watching this, I definitely have to feign ignorance to roll with some story points. I think it's so precious how TV makes it seem like the student council can decide which clubs the school will have or make it mandatory that everyone participates in intramurals LOL Also, Shay taking her pants off in class is perfectly fine, and approximately a week or two after the Gaming Club is created, they have branded hoodies. Surprisingly, I'm fine with the pacing so far. DTNG was really only semi-serialized in its heyday with self-contained episodes fitting into a bigger picture, and that's what I'm seeing here, though it's a little bit more serialized.- Degrassi: The Next Generation
Is this season supposed to be just ten episodes? Meaning the entire "season" is gonna be done in two weeks on TV in Canada? Obviously, I'm in the US and will just have it all on Netflix, but I thought they were going back to weekly eps on TV. I'm surprised they didn't go with 60-minute episodes, but I'm kinda glad they stuck with the 30-minute standard. - The Doctors Discussion Thread
