  1. That's from the fantastic mini-series Bare Essence. Linda played Genie's mom. Great cast of early 80s TV stars including Donna MIlls, Bruce Boxleitner, Joel Higgins, and Lee Grant.
  2. I think it was a blessing in disguise that they weren't always running frontburner stories for the older characters. They were able to take on the supporting roles that they were due to inherit, making it easy for the actors to continue to play them with the same spirit that they'd played them with for years. If they'd been hot commodities at the end, they would have been obliterated.
  3. How was this missed?
  4. I just happened upon the new 1972 episode (plus some AW goodies), and I have to say that I thought I'd NEVER get to see anything from the Dan/Susan era! What a fantastic episode! Marie Masters was in her prime, yet it was still quite obvious that this was the same actress and character that we were watching 35 years later. Such a treat!
  5. I just finished watching the other half of the season (are we correct in calling these 10 episodes the season? because...), and I'm game for more, so good job, nunuDegrassi! I will say that I think the arc as a whole felt a bit hollow. It's not really that they did too much in ten episodes -- the actual stories themselves didn't feel rushed at all, and the episodes all flowed very nicely, but they missed a TON of opportunities to do more with the characters to get them from where they were in Episode 1 to where they ended up in Episode 10. Granted, they only had ten episodes, and I have no idea if they even had the option to go for more, so I can't beat them up too much on that, but still. Hunter's descent into madness should have been the result of more than just getting his video game club shut down. Had they had more time, they could have explored his anger management issues and his interest in Yael. I don't get why they kept referring to Zig (who is a goddamn moron) and Zoe as having "fooled around" or "hooked up." They kissed. Was it an intense kiss? Was it making out? Yes! But were we supposed to assume that they went all the way on a log in the woods? I don't know. This might have been my least favorite of the continuing arcs simply because I don't understand what the point of it was. I get that Tristan and Miles have a good bit of history held over from TNG, so I was expecting more of them interacting with each other. There were nice moments, but it's pretty clear that that ship has sailed.
  6. To the show's credit, Liberty languished in supporting character hell with Toby for most of the heyday, I think, because they chose to focus on the more socially accepted characters. Toby and Liberty were the real nerds from the jump (whilst JT was more of a dork), and they got nothing. This was perfectly illustrated by them conducting a damn science experiment in the opening credits. Now what they did to Hazel was dead wrong.
  7. Oh, I like Miles. The actor isn't the best, but I like the character, and I see a lot of Craig Manning in him (though there are enough differences for him to not be a clone), which makes him very interesting to me. I just wish they'd spend just as much time developing the other characters, too. I generally like most of the characters. Shay is lame as fck, but once we saw her home life, it makes sense that she's such a goober. I didn't really like much of what I saw of Tristan back in the day, but he's tolerable here. Maya is giving me plenty of post-rape Paige vibes, but like with Miles, she's enough of her own character that I don't feel that she's a copy of anyone. The characters and stories are all perfectly fine right now, and I'm glad it's not a big merry-go-round of triangles and quads. The Muslim girl is giving me life. The sex has been amped up a bit, and I was kinda surprised by that, especially ol' girl (forgot her name) masturbating under her sheets. I appreciated the Zig/Maya sex story because that felt a lot like ol' school DTNG.
  8. I just watched the first 5 in a single sitting and generally enjoyed it. I'm glad the show is available in this format because it really does make watching it and keeping up with it much easier. A big thing I noticed is that the cast is TINY compared to the cast of any given season of TNG, and I can see both positives and negatives in it. Positively, it means we get to spend more time with the cast of characters we have, and hopefully that means more development. Also, there are no random irrelevant characters who are supposed to be regulars but do nothing and add nothing to the show (which was mainly a characteristic of latter-day TNG). On the other hand, one of the things that made TNG feel so real was that the cast was large and the characters didn't all know each other or hang out with each other. You could have an episode be about Paige and Spinner along with a completely unrelated story about JT and Liberty. It just made the school feel bigger, busier, and more alive. It's no huge deal, though, and it certainly marks a new era. Having three Hollingsworth siblings makes it feel like they're the central characters, and honestly, it feels like they're trying to make Miles THE lead of the show. I didn't watch the last few seasons of TNG at all, except for Cam's suicide, so Miles at the center of the show is taking some getting used to. Now that I'm a teacher watching this, I definitely have to feign ignorance to roll with some story points. I think it's so precious how TV makes it seem like the student council can decide which clubs the school will have or make it mandatory that everyone participates in intramurals LOL Also, Shay taking her pants off in class is perfectly fine, and approximately a week or two after the Gaming Club is created, they have branded hoodies. Surprisingly, I'm fine with the pacing so far. DTNG was really only semi-serialized in its heyday with self-contained episodes fitting into a bigger picture, and that's what I'm seeing here, though it's a little bit more serialized.
  9. Is this season supposed to be just ten episodes? Meaning the entire "season" is gonna be done in two weeks on TV in Canada? Obviously, I'm in the US and will just have it all on Netflix, but I thought they were going back to weekly eps on TV. I'm surprised they didn't go with 60-minute episodes, but I'm kinda glad they stuck with the 30-minute standard.
  10. And they (or someone) are ruining it by processing the crap out of it.
  11. Whoever wrote it was spot on, especially the "Bill Cosby is not actually Dr. Huxtable" part. Too many people can't see pass the character and consider that this man that they don't and have never known personally could be something different from the brand he's built for himself over the decades. It's like people who blindly defend and support politicians. There are people in my own damn family that I can not and will not trust -- why in the world am I gonna rush to the defense of someone who is in this deep that I've never share a gasp of air with? Granted, there are celebrities that I love and will defend, but not when it's this damning.
  12. I just learned today of Shirley Stelfox's death, and I must admit, I never saw her on Emmerdale (mainly because I've only really watched stuff from the Farm years), but I loved her on Keeping Up Appearances, and I'm glad she was able to stay busy with ED up until the end. Hopefully they remember her and her character well.
  13. The troops are rallying in his defense, and from what I'm seeing, the conspiracy narrative is taking hold. People honestly believe that this was a huge set-up because "Bill was about to buy NBC, and white supremacy won't let that happen" (paraphrasing a quote from Dick Gregory). What in THE actual f!ck.
  14. That's HEAT from I Love New York and I Love Money ("I felt very betrayded"), and he dayplayered as a bartender at ConFusion for a few episodes.
  15. I noticed that the show is back on Pop, airing two episodes a day Monday-Friday.
  16. Perfect time slot!! I'm glad they didn't change the schedule too much (like Antenna TV did...again).
  17. I'm not even gonna pretend like I'll tune in for it, but it's nice to see Glender back for a minute.
  18. This song is so charming in that old school "Ready, Daddy?" "I'm ready, Daughter" "We gon' get us a hit record down in Nashville" country way.
  19. I'm still trying to wrap my head around some of the shade thrown at Brit in the last few pages of this thread lol The bitch is making money and being a mom. Which part is she supposed to give up?
  20. Facial hair really doesn't nothing for me (neither good nor bad), but that little bitch is gorgeous.
  21. I love Betty Buckley
  22. I just skimmed through some of the special they aired back in July, and it looks decent. Linda and Stephen are all over it, which is nice bc I've never really seen or read much from them about the show and its impact. It's also nice to see some of the oldies sitting around and being retrospective alongside the more recent cast members. They need to just get it together and put them all on Netflix. This show is perfect for rainy Saturday afternoon binge watching.
  23. I LIKE that they have self-shot videos in there, because it really does add some authenticity, but idk, I still they should have had some more traditional stuff in there. Maybe that's just the first sign of me being unable to accept changes lol It'll probably grow on me. The cast does look good in some of them. The guy who plays Tristan has finally grown into his looks because his platinum blond era wasn't pretty. Now he's looking very handsome. The new mix of the theme might seriously be my second fave after the definitive S4-S5 theme.
  24. Why is poor Kim Fields on this?
