No, my point is I don't think it's a problem for me as a viewer either way. It's a soap. Every rich family on soaps has questionable dealings at best (to say nothing of the current murder cover-up). I'm not going to be aggrieved at Vernon for lobbying on behalf of Newman the same way I would a real-life politician in bed with the NRA or AIPAC. We see Mayor Laura on GH cozy up to Sonny all the time. I don't love that but after 30 years of their relationship it doesn't destroy her character IMO. However they choose to portray Vernon's connection to Victor, it's just another character trait to me.

And that sums it up for me as well.

I do wish that they would have done more with Laura and Sonny myself and it looked that way under PM, but at least it is acknowledged in terms of the optics of it all, but still love Laura in spite of her relationship with Sonny.

I think we are discussing two different things.

You are discussing Vernon’s characterization. I’m indifferent to that.

What I am insinuating is that the writers don’t see lobbying as a negative thing. Judging on the words they used, they are portraying the activity as something that their heroes or winners would have the right to do, no questions asked.

I see your point, Aback. It might just be ignorance on the part of the writers, but it is problematic if they don't see the negative of a politician doing favors for big business.

I don't think we can assume anything about their personal feelings. It's just a question of finding an excuse for a soap opera crossover.

Yeah this is kind of the point of discussion boards. To theorize, discuss, hear each other’s takes and opinions. And if you read between the lines (though everything has been pretty much laid out already), my point is that they should have found a better excuse.

And my contribution to the discussion I that I simply don't have a problem with that narrative device and don't think it's that serious. YMMV.

It is just a soap so you can't take it that seriously, but at the same time it might have been better if Vernon's connection to Victor was framed as Victor being a huge benefactor to civil rights causes if their connection was going to be positive.

Very well said, thank you.

I’m constantly astonished that in the US this is an ordinary, legit, almost positive thing to say: “Over the years, apparently Victor has backed Vernon’s political campaigns, while Vernon has championed legislation benefiting Newman Enterprises”.

Agreed.

Also, let's be real: Victor Newman would totally be MAGA.

Braeden would never let that happen. At all.

He'd sooner quit than agree to play that.

It's times like these when I miss Jeanne Cooper the most. Having her cross over to BTG would be a natural.

He really would. He'd turn on everyone so fast, and I adore him for that.
