I also sensed some Susan in Kristen's mannerisms today, especially the way she moved her mouth/teeth. I think Haiduk just couldn't shake her off for whatever reason. She also seemed to have trouble remembering her lines today, with all her weird pauses. And in what feels like a personal affront, Kristen had on nail polish today. Sure, go for months and months with nothing, then she's kidnapped from prison and voila, nail polish. I feel personally targeted by this clear form of psychological torment.

Anyway, I really liked the Sarah/Eric scenes touching on their history together, and we finally got a mention of how Xander tried to kill Eric, too. As a huge Greg Vaughan fan, it was a treat to have him in another episode after all the other returnees have presumably left. I wanted him to deck EJ so badly. However, I don't like any instance where anyone, especially Sarah, says Xander is worse than EJ. That type of hyperbole is so annoying, since EJ is the devil incarnate at this point.

Roman being included at the hospital with Marlena was cute.

I doubt Stefano is in the tube. I really don't think (more pleadingly hope) that they would ever recast him so I have to pray to the soap gods that something that stupid is just a red herring and not actually on the horizon. EJ was very purposely vague when he alluded to reuniting with whoever it is. I'm along for the ride so far, but I pray it's worthwhile.

This is officially my favorite form of content.  I laughed my a$% off at the nail polish commentary, and it is something I have never even thought to notice. - thanks

With regard to my comments on the DiMeras, I want to be precise. It is not a choice between fantasy-driven DiMera theatrics and grounded human drama. The show works when both are integrated. That mix is the core of DAYS for me.

The Hortons, the Blacks, the Carvers, the whole set of normie families are the emotional anchor. They give us relatable reactions to experiences that are anything but relatable. Marlena is not simply grieving with her family at her side, she is grieving while haunted by literal ghosts. That is the house code of DAYS regardless of who is running the room. Big feelings, big life events, birth, romance, loss, identity, all filtered through something delightfully strange.

@Wendy This has been true from the beginning. Marie coped with losing her brother by drifting into an almost incestuous dynamic with her surviving brother, then choosing the convent. Doug and Julie became the signature couple while raising the child he had with her mother. That is not AMC. That is not GH. That is DAYS DNA.  For those who use literality to refute an argument, I am not saying other soaps haven't tried to copy DAYS DNA.  I am saying it doesn't define other soaps in the same way.

The supercouples were built on the idea of using romance to contrast with the absurd.  What other soap has Hope Williams experience her first kiss while searching for a prism?  Or Jennifer Horton losing her virginity, while Jack wore a condom on a desert island after a place crash killed Mama Dimera?

After watching the sixty-year anniversary clips, the through-line is obvious. The show has always been unique because it commits to human emotion expressed through heightened, sometimes bizarre, story structures. That combination is why it endures.

How many years has Joe been dead? It's time to retire 'is Stefano alive?' stories unless you are prepared to reveal a strong heir to his villainy within the family, which they have consistently failed to do.

I can't see them recasting Stefano either. In some ways, it would almost be disrespectful to Joseph Mascolo, and his memory.

This is purely speculation but I suspect it is Stefano's body in the tube but the plot will be foiled in the end, hopefully by Johnny.

The Days spoiler thread details a casting rumor, and that may tie into the discussion here. If true, it would surprise me, but time rolls on.

I've learned my lesson from watching the summer preview, I am going spoiler-free (for this week).

-- I know the budget is a huge problem.

Still, although I love all the returns, I wish the show did a better job with why they're all back one day and gone the next.

-- The 60th celebration at the Square was fine, but also odd. When speeches were made, the crowd and speaker were never in the same camera shot. Felt like the speeches were taped separately and inserted.

-- The speeches themselves were nothing special. I wanted words that really pulled at the heartstrings, but didn't get it.

-- Paulina's speech was particularly bad, with a really weird delivery by Jackee.

Sami's Three Stooges stole the show today

I enjoyed their individual scenes with other characters before they all came together at the Pub to commiserate over their relationships with Sami. I thought that was broken down pretty well. I just wish it had gone on a little longer. And I actually found it kinda funny too lol it seemed more mature than what we're used to. That's the kind of humor that should be on a soap. But I'm not really sure about all this talk of Dante Vitali and Sami's engagement though, especially since it doesn't look like Ali Sweeney is coming back anytime soon. What's the point of it all if we're (probably) not going to see it?

It also looked like today was the first round of Brady vs. Xander as well lol I enjoyed their fight, and I'm interested in seeing this storyline play out. Even though I'm sure that Sarah will ultimately go back to Xander in the end, I'd like to see what happens along the way, and how they and everyone around them are affected by this.

Btw, Theo and Jada? Idk.

I still think he had the most chemistry with Arianna. And he was a bit of a dick too. It also seemed a little out of character for Jada to be so OK with him being such a dick

And though Alex and Stephanie were very boring again and need much better conflict than this book stuff, I am interested in the mystery of who's targeting Alex.

And yeah, I know this is a nitpick, but why is the Square still open after the gala? Isn't it supposed to be really late at night?

Tut tut Jack wore no condom. And it was a shipwreck. Jennifer managed to pack her diaphragm when the boat went down and insert it right before her cave sex. Far more plausible

Gosh, Suzanne is such a classic - truly a beautiful person, inside and out.

Yeah, I wasn’t really moved by the gala either. They talked so much about Tom… but what about Alice? Mickey? And Bill! Honestly, I would’ve preferred the Hortons just sitting in the living room at the Horton house, reminiscing, with more rare flashbacks. No need for a big gala.
