ARTICLE: ‘The Young And The Restless’ Announces Final Television Appearance For Late Actor Tristan Rogers

Tristan Rogers, Robert Scorpio General Hospital, GH

The Tuesday, August 26 episode of “The Young and the Restless” will see the final television appearance of the late actor Tristan Rogers, who played Colin Atkinson on the daytime drama series off and on from 2010-2019.

“On behalf of the entire ‘Y&R’ family, Jess Walton [Jill Abbott Fenmore] pays tribute to her longtime scene partner, Tristan Rogers, who makes his final television appearance on tomorrow’s episode of ‘The Young and the Restless,’” the daytime drama series announced in a post on Instagram, published on Monday.

“As we revisit one of their most memorable scenes — an emotional moment between Jill and Colin from 2014 — we are reminded of the lasting impact Tristan brought to our show, both on and off screen. He will forever be missed.”

“Tristan Rogers was a respected member of the soap opera community, and he was a beloved member of ‘The Young and the Restless’ family. I had the pleasure of being his scene parner for many years. I adored working with him,” said Walton, introducing the 2014 clip which sees their characters dealing with Colin’s betrayal.

“We will miss you, Tristan, and your remarkable performance as Colin Atkinson,” concluded Walton.

The story behind the episode sees Colin’s son, Cane (Billy Flynn), revealing details about his time away from Genoa City, including details about his father’s death, which up to this point had been referenced as an off screen event.

Tristan Rogers died on Friday, August 15 after a battle with lung cancer. His longtime manager, Meryl Soodak, noted to ABC7 (KABC) at the time that Rogers had never been a smoker. The actor died just weeks after disclosing his diagnosis on Thursday, July 17, which was also the same day he made what would end up being his final appearance on “General Hospital,” where he played the iconic role of Robert Scorpio off and on since 1980. Rogers was 79.

This is a nice surprise and a gift from Tristan to his fans! Of course we know how important he was to GH but he also managed to create a very memorable and well liked character on Y&R and I'm glad the fans will get the chance to say goodbye to him properly.

I rarely watch but I will tune in for this.

And GH does nothing.

We saw various tributes from many in the cast, as well as Valentini. I imagine there will be a goodbye to Scorpio as well. The only difference is Y&R put out a video with Jess Walton. While I respect Jess for being willing to do that, I can't criticize GH if they didn't want to make any cast do the same.

He just died, and they gave him one final appearance weeks ago as well as a HEA last year, all of which was clearly with his recent illness in mind. They will honor him onscreen but it might take time on account of much of their veteran cast dying off en masse in recent months/years, starting with Leslie Charleson and Denise Alexander.

We can critique GH for many things, but this regime has always honored their veterans when they pass away.

Yes, except...I don't recall poor Stuart Damon getting much of anything. But for the most part, you're right.

That was a long time ago, and they did have him appear near the end of his life. This regime wasn't in place when Alan was killed off, unlike most of the other actors they've memorialized.

This aired in Canada Monday August 25.    Billy Flynn's Cane is having a flashback to a recent conversation he had with Tristan Rogers' Colin just before Colin died.
(obviously a newly-created flashback filmed for this episode).

Colin is in his sickbed talking with Cane.  From looking at the screencaps and clips from the Canadian recappers, you can see that this is new footage that Tristan filmed at some point in the past few months.

It seemed like Jess and Tristan became great friends over the years - when Jess agreed to come back to Y&R in 2012, she had 2 requests - (1). That it would be recurring (which it’s been ever since to varying degrees) and (2). That they keep Tristan as her love interest because the two had hit it off and loved working together (regardless if the Jill/Colin relationship ever made any sense)

That's nice that they added the Jess tribute.

For a lot of viewers that might be the only way they would find out about his death.

Also Jess was on the Jabot set, so I guess that means we will see Jill in GC again soon.

Oh, I know they weren't around when Alan (fictionally) died in 2007. But when Stuart Damon passed, I just think TPTB could have written something like they did for Monica, something hospital related in Alan's honor, and used flashbacks, etc.

But for whatever reason, Stuart's real death years after Alan seemed to be largely shoved under the carpet.

Still, it has been better for others since, even if it seems like it will be happening far more frequently because of real life, sadly.
