I think Jason/Britt round 2 will be DOA. Their chemistry is not that off the charts; she's not that strong an actress; and her character is beyond stupid (I can't believe how much they are bringing up her first years on the show when she was pretty much a cartoony villain; it would have been best to just forget all that). It's a testament to the sad state of the canvas when it comes to women that she is the only one they had to pair Jason with, after failing with Anna and Sasha.

It really was a very stupid choice on their part. Yes, the history with Rocco, etc. exists but it didn't need to become a huge story arc - if you absolutely have to go back there, maybe cover it in a scene where he meets her and she gives her regrets. Doing all this turns a portion of the general audience against Britt that might never have had major issues with her before. (That's not even getting to her return putting her in the Liason fans' crosshairs, who will never give up.) And then there's me, who has hated Britt for over a decade lol.

Don't forget LW's Carly. The whole reason any of these failed options happened, or Britt now, is because someone at the show (likely Korte) tried twice in the last five years to put Jason and Carly over again. That was the intent when he first returned last year, and it fell apart immediately because they just don't work with these actors. It tanked both times, left Jason utterly adrift last year casting about for a new pairing, and now here we are. (Sorry to our latest banned user, but it's never going to happen.)

I think it says more about Jason than the state of the women on the canvas.

I actually blame the show more than I blame Steve/Jason or any woman on the canvas.  While the show didn't need Jason back, that's not really Steve or Jason's fault.  The show's only plan for Jason seemed to be pairing him with LW's Carly-something that had failed a few years ago.  There wasn't a plan B.   Like Jason or not, Steve has always been able to generate popular pairings with his co-stars not named Laura Wright.  The writers just gave Jason two of the strangest options-his ex-girlfriends mom or boring Sasha.

You could have tested Jason with Ava, Nina, or even Lois (sorry @Vee).  It's also not like there isn't a popular Jason love interest right there on canvas for him in Liz, but the show won't go back there.   So now we get the crazy, back from the dead Britt story that will eventually fade out as a last ditch effort.

I'll go as far to say I actually think it was a mistake to kill Sam off so early into Jason's return.

You know who I'm surprised they haven't chem-tested Jason with? Alexa Havins' Lulu, who hasn't really gotten a romance story since she came out of her coma 9 months ago. She's age-appropriate and spunky enough to be a good foil to stolid Jason. And there's some good obvious conflict with Dante and with Rocco and Danny already viewing each other as brothers.

Gross. No. Dante and Lulu are where it's at.

Jason is the problem with Jason. But as I keep saying, I'd just bring someone new/old on, like Keesha Ward. Then probably wait Steve out til he can be removed again. As it is, his current support role at the Q mansion is a good one and you can do more there with him as the family protector/counsel as the show is frankly running out of ways to use the mob centrally. If they had the balls they'd remove him from Sonny's organization completely, draft him into working for the local WSB office (minus any of its actual current staff lol) or private security for ELQ, and there you go.

I'm biased because I wouldn't wish Dante on any of the women on the show, not even Brook Lynn. He's constantly scowling and judgemental, and Dom plays him like a man with severe constipation. I'm glad that he and Lulu are apart right now, because I mostly like her, and I don't want to see her tied down to that stiff.

Totally disagree, I think DZ is excellent and Dante should be leading the show again. But YMMV, that's fine.

Yeah, I agree. Dom is a terrific actor. No one's doing better work on the show.

What’s it going to take for a regime change to happen on this show

The show's definitely not perfect right now (and this past week, there was too much emphasis on the Britt storyline). But the show could be and in fact has been much much worse. I'm not sure that a different regime would actually improve it, especially since some of the most obvious EP and head writer candidates are pretty terrible. For example, I recently watched a YouTube-recommended clip from 2009 (the late Guza era), and I was pretty much appalled on every level. Of course, Jason and Sonny are still doing shady things today, but the show's moral compass doesn't feel completely broken in the way it did back then.

If we must have Jason on 3+ days per week, I’m fine with him standing silently next to Sonny or occasionally having a nice scene reconnecting with Danny. I don’t need him to be involved in a front-burner romantic pairing.

The show has promising romances that it refuses to advance (hello, Emma and Gio; I’m still mad about Isaiah and Jordan). I wish it wouldn’t cede that airtime to Jason and Britt redux.

They need to justify Burton's salary and airtime to themselves and presumably the network. Frontburner-wise, it's been a bust and each attempt at a romance has flopped. (Something I could not have conceived of ten years ago, despite my hatred for Jason.) Hence, Britt is back to try to make him the star again. Letting Jason continue to have merely a supporting role is unthinkable to the show at present.

I do think he works best currently with the Qs in this unlikely, surprising role he should've been in decades ago, and I think there are ways to give him key and prominent new story around that as I said a few posts back. But they won't do that.

The whole Jason return went off the rails very quickly.  Whether it was the BTS changes or lack of plan, it's been a flop.  As Vee stated, the show is paying Steve way too much money to be supporting.  It seems like Steve is finally at a place where he is willing to play stories out with his family and the show is wasting that potential to bring on Britt.  There is no way that Britt/Jason leading the show will bring viewers in.

It's a shame because this pairing will eventually flop too since Britt has the depth of a puddle and is an all-around unlikeable character.  I still think Jason is way less played out than Sonny or Carly and that there are other options for him.
