The friendships were on full display today.

One thing that Days has always done well is the friendships that characters have with each other. I'm glad that that's continuing.

Marlena and Sarah's talk about Kristen and Rachel was really good. The only thing I would suggest is that everything going on should be tied together more and seen more through Marlena's eyes. The effects of John's death, the dreams she's been having, Johnny's trial, Rachel shooting EJ, and Susan's premonitions should be taking more of a toll on her, which could explain the dreams, and whatever's going to happen to her in the future.

Speaking of Susan, she needs to go away. I guess she has somewhat of a purpose, since her son and grandson are such important parts of the canvas right now, but I still think she's not necessary. Does Days feel like they need her for humor or something? They don't. I'm glad Marlena basically told her to get lost.

And, Johnny possibly becoming a Professor at Salem U? Idk.

Philip and Belle's friendship really stood out to me today as well. We continued to get a much better understanding of why Philip is the way that he is. Their trip down memory lane was actually kinda nice. And they remembered his fake leg too lol I think we can add Philip to the list of characters that have gotten improved writing since the new writers came in.

I also really liked Sarah and Xander's final scene, and I wish it had gone on a little longer. As short as it was, it still felt like classic supercouple angst.

Btw, this is a nitpick but everybody really needs to go back to calling the company Titan, not Titan-Dimera. Dimera shouldn't exist anymore.

Thank you for your continued write-ups and added wit :) I'm always weeks behind (just got into August!) so it's nice to know what to look forward to/watch out for.

I mean, it's a way to tie Johnny and the other mid/late 20 somethings to the teen set that's inevitably going to go to university in the fall. Considering they've actually invested in new sets, I hope they can invest in a basic university set. It's been a while (a decade+?) since we've had proper university storylines.

Yeah… today was a bit of a mixed bag. Not necessarily bad but things were played a little too campy, which I think kinda messed up some scenes.

Particularly, Holly and Sophia’s scenes at the Pub. The gloves sort of came off today, but the campiness of it all was not necessary. I’m still looking forward to seeing what happens next for all of them, despite Sophia’s stupid choices. Maybe it would have been better if Sophia had gotten rid of the baby because she was angry at Tate for always being so preoccupied with Holly, Doug III, etc. and wanted to make him suffer. Which could also explain why she suddenly wants him back now. It could have been a part of a plan to hurt him and Holly again.

Rachel Boyd’s acting was still a little… ehhh though lol I think she has gotten better over the past few months but she still needs a lot of work.

Tate did look adorable in his Brady Pub apron though 😊😊😂

I thought that Kayla and Chad suspecting that EJ has an ulterior motive for buying the hospital was interesting too. I actually would prefer them teaming up and investigating it, rather than Rafe and Cat. And I wouldn’t mind them somehow weaving Stephanie, and whatever drama she may have coming up, into it as well.

The cliffhanger was also really good too. Seeing Brady so smart lately has been really refreshing lol. Paul is still the best of John’s kids to carry on his legacy, but I’m really enjoying how they’ve been writing Brady lately.

But yeah, Leo… Skip. Gwen really needed to slap the s*it out of him, and I’m glad that she hasn’t forgiven him.

The new team doesn’t care all that much about Ron’s other favorite, why do they still care so much about this one?

Especially after what we learned today.

And, I don’t actually hate the idea. I just don’t know lol

TBH, if they're going to have some sort of "umbrella" location to bring characters of various ages together I wouldn't mind a proper uni storyline to last a few years. You could always bring in some other characters in various positions in a way that wouldn't necessarily feel contrived as everyone suddenly wanting to be actors or get into producing a soap opera.

It would be nice, especially for like Tate/Holly/Sophia, etc. I like the Pub and the Square, but having teenagers constantly hang out there feels weird sometimes lol

We haven’t had any Salem U related storylines since like JJ and Paige, right?

Now hold on just a gosh darn minute; why is Rita not working for EJ at the hospital? Does the man need two assistants? We’ve never seen Rita in scenes with other staff at Titan/DiMera, so it doesn’t look like she came over in the merger package. I really hope we’re not about to lose her.

And what happened to Versavex? The drug that killed off John Black is now a narrative footnote? Meanwhile, Chad’s suddenly an expert on FDA drug approval protocols, which feels wildly unearned.  A medication that magically reverses organ failure, seems like it would be approved quickly.  Especially because the last human subject that took the dose is now sailing on a yacht around the world. Plus, we’ve yet to establish why Chad wouldn’t just voice his concerns directly to EJ. Especially after Chad literally saved EJ’s life when he was shot.

Today’s unintentional comedy award goes to the entire population of Salem, who doubt Kristen's confession and still somehow conclude she belongs in jail. The logic gymnastics are impressive.

And Brady “uncovering” Sophia’s secret—one she’s keeping largely because adults like Brady failed her by not ensuring access to abortion care—is still deeply gross.  I enjoy the college crowd.  But, I had hoped for a bit more modern story that the traditional good girl/bad girl drama.  And, Holly, who got Tate jailed a few years ago when she ODed, looks like a mean girl to me when she hisses at Sophia.  I know we're supposed to be on Holly's side, but I am not feeling it.  I yearn for a little feminism.  With Holly backing Sophia's rights to choose what happens to her baby and her body.  Not having a cat fight about who gets to wear the apron at  the Brady Pub.🤔

EJ said he had an assistant/right hand (meaning Rita),but said he could use someone to do more everyday menial tasks like Cat.

The Sophia/Holly fight felt a little silly.  One girl has just given up a baby and lost so much and Holly is just mad Tate/Sophia work together?  I think Rachel Boyd/Sophia is a total dud, but maybe Holly could go hang out with Ari or get her own job instead of following Tate/Sophia.

It reminded me of how it used to be between Holly and Sophia, which kinda got dropped after they found out about Sophia’s pregnancy, and Doug III was introduced.

I think yesterday would have made a little more sense if they hadn’t dropped it

It would definitely make more sense if Sophia made moves towards Tate during her pregnancy or Sophia/Tate briefly got back together when Holly/Tate broke up.  She had the oppurtunity then.  Now, it's silly because there is nothing tying her to Tate.

Holly just seems petty.  Trust your boyfriend.  Calm down.  I highly doubt Sophia/Tate are going to hook up by the chowder bowl at the Pub.  It's kind of awkward on Roman's part to hire them both, but they do have experience and there's only 3 or 4 places to work in Salem so here we are.

I’ve been tuning in to see the new writers’ material, but it looks like that won’t be hitting our screens for a while—so I’ll try to be patient.

In the meantime, I can’t help but find the Kat actress’s acting choices a bit distracting. It’s like she’s channeling Jennifer Aniston, but her timing feels completely off for this medium. I’m not saying she’s a bad actress—I actually think she’s quite good. The problem is, she’s performing as if she’s in a sitcom with a live audience. Her rhythm doesn’t match the pacing and demands of a multi-camera soap taping, and it puts her on a completely different wavelength from her castmates. It just comes across… awkward.

I'd argue that we're seeing the new material, even if it's still largely about tying up storylines from Ron's run they're still making their own choices to them now (ie Rachel being the shooter). I don't think the show is perfect right now by any means, but I'm looking forward to it and it does seem like they're trying to deepen the relationships on the shows rather than the shallow merry-go-around than Ron did (though why on earth they keep propping up Leo is something I'll never understand, but I assume they see him as the "comic" relief that DAYS often historically has had).
