ATWT, of all the soaps, had a slate of goddesses who powered the canvas, and the show was always at its weakest when it took those legends for granted. One of many reasons I find ATWT's last decade so alienating is the lack of interest in actress or character.

Eileen truly was a goddess, a perpetually fascinating presence, yet whatever facade she put on for the public she made seem fun and natural.

Eileen's interviews are a delight, all the way to her final appearance on Locher Room.

I didn't know until about 10-15 years ago that she even had a column in Rona Barrett's Daytimers. She gives some hilarious comments, especially when answering reader mail. She could have easily been a comedian or had a talk show.

By the time I started watching ATWT, Lisa's biggest days had faded, but she was a wonderful day-to-day character. Eileen was always doing something - a line reading, a side-eye - to keep you entertained.

When Eileen had one of her biggest opportunities, with Eduardo's death and Lisa's wrongful death suit against John, she rose to the occasion and should have received a Daytime Emmy nomination.

It's tough to see so many formative figures who made me love soaps leave, especially when it comes to ATWT, which was the elite. Still, she had a long and hopefully happy life, defining a genre and being a nationally known figure, living life on her own terms, to the end.

This could not be said more accurately and also not more beautifully! Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

We are diminished. Peace & Power! Heaven must have had a powerful need.

May light perpetual shine upon her & may angels & heavenly hosts guide her to her new resting place & may she be met there by long unseen family & friends & beloved pets. And, may a feast be laid at a groaning table, only awaiting her presence. What a celebration of a well-lived life.

She was a legend. One of the best. It has been said before it was the way she acted and reacted on screen that made Irna Phillips develop her in to a major character . She deserved so much better those last few years than what they had given her to do.

All of Oakdale's great dames have heavenly ascended. Helen, Kathy, Liz, and now Eileen... This just breaks my heart. The Daytime Emmys better go all out for her, as if it weren't for Lisa, there'd be no daytime vixen.

She wrote the rulebook & then she tore it up & made it up as she went along!!! And, she never missed even one beat. What I'm  trying to say is she was True North when it came to young bright females on our shows! On her shoulders many have risen.

RIP, what an original and truly dedicated performer she always was (even when TBTB lost interest in Lisa). She’s simply unforgettable in the context of American daytime soap opera and I will always cherish my memories of watching her.

Also, the first and only daytime actress/character to be given a nightime spinoff , back in the days when soaps were pretty much ignored.

Although Our Private World was a failure, nonetheless a significant footnote in soap history.

And it's original title -  'The Woman, Lisa'.

Not going to lie I literally teared up and choked when I saw this. The OG soap diva.

At least 3 generations of my family including myself lived to see what that darn Lisa was up to on ATWT, maybe 4 if you include my great grandmother.

@DRW50 Well said!

Can’t add much more except may Eileen RIP after such a long and vivid life.

I knew this day was coming and it's still a shocker. RIP to Lisa! Speaking of the grandmother clause, did Tom and Margot ever have a child? I forget.

Casey, in 1990.

It had already been broken by that point with Lien's arrival in early 1988. I doubt the backlash Eileen faced over Margo's late 1986 miscarriage was the reason for that retcon but it's interesting it happened only a year later.
