Thanks for sharing. I imagine there were other reasons, but based on how part-time Lucky felt, I'm not too surprised that this was the biggest factor.

I know his kids are older now,  but Thorsten Kaye makes it work, his kids were little when he got hired at BOLD and commutes weekly to California from Connecticut. JJ could make it work if he tried IMO

Wasn't he living in remotely during his previous return stints as well? Not like he didn't know what he was getting into. Whatever, I don't really care, the writing was just terribly sh!t for him and commuting for work was not the reason for that.

I believe he relocated in the midst of his last contract tenure (2009–2011), which would likely explain his decision to join Nashville, since it was filmed in Nashville, Tennessee, and would've been easier for him and his family.

After the "Nashville" series ended, Jonathan Jackson moved to Ireland in 2020. He lived there for a few years.

Ridge is the STAR of his show. Lucky should have been treated like a leading man, with loads of story... but he was instead treated like a side character just because the writers didn't know how/care to write for him. I mean Lucky returned... and became a bar tender and Kristina's henchman. lmao! They really fumbled the ball on this one. I don't understand why they didn't have Brenan target him as an operative, the same way he did Jason. And then have Lucky be Josslyn's handler or whatever?

One of the problems is Lucky had not been a leading character since 1999...I don't even know if he was in JJ's disastrous 2010 return. 

They could have done better with him, but ultimately, he should have been left to the past.

The return was doomed from the get go. FV didn't want Lucky, but needed him to rebuild Laura's family. His introduction was crap. 

The chemistry with Herbst is still there, but #firefrank can't use Becky to prop pets if she's actually got a story that matters. Her numbers will go back down.

There are way too many characters on the show, and several already fill the cop/hero character that Lucky used to represent on the canvas. They built so much around Dante with the "Gio" story, and, Chase is also too connected to just drop. 

They barely connected Lucky to anyone but Elizabeth, Laura, Lulu and Kristina, he barely shared scenes anywhere else. The character was never given anything substantial to do. Dayplayers spend more time  behind the bar at Charlie's than he did.

Instead we have crap characters like Dalton, Vaughn and Boyle getting more play around the canvas, along with the guy that tried to kill him when he returned being all over like horse s**t. Until they get rid of Valentini, every tiny positive that comes along will only last until #firefrank is bored. 

I wouldn't be shocked if Easton turned back up... 

And I do agree that they not once attempted to clean up Lucky's "unhoused chic" look...   With a better EP and writers... well you all know how this show is.

 

I read this earlier and it said so much what I was feeling after I calm down. 

 

My wish list last year was for Laura AND HER KIDS to come home. All of them are so connected and could be used all over the canvas...block filming or not...that any talk about such a legacy character leaving...whether I want him with one of my favorite legacy characters or not...was going to get some side-eye from me. 

 

And it sounds like his exit (still playing catch-up) is going to be contrived as heck. Not that they were trying to write for him very well in the first place. I figured that when the Cyrus storyline was happening with Lucky/Liz on one side of it and getting a build and Joss on the other side of it with a build, there would be a connection. However, we never quite got a collision course with each other that could have been a whole umbrella storyline if written well. Emphasis on written well.

 

Meanwhile, the flavor of the month aka Sidwell not only seems to have his finger in every storyline...I mean pie, not only does he have a whole a$$ family now, but he paid for the Nurse Ball, too. A newbie? But these writers could not even write for someone who not only is a legacy character, one of Laura's kids, AND a bit of clean slate???
