GH: Legacy role allegedly being recast

That's one of my issues as well, although that is not Garrett's fault - so much damage was done to the canvas by trying to recreate a character who even by that point had run out of storyline.

I haven't seen him in recent years, so maybe he would fit the part. I just hope the writing is worthwhile, as we are seeing with Lulu that a great casting choice still can't overcome limited scripts.

What do you think of him?

I agree that Jesse Lee Sofer would never do soaps again, but ... After leaving Chicago PD, he was hired as a new lead actor on FBI: International, but it was just cancelled a few months later.  He'll likely land in yet another Dick Wolf show.

I have to say FBI: International was terrible this past year, and Jesse wasn't good in the role.  Not sure if it was the writers or him, but his character doesn't have the nuances that the rest of the characters in the ensemble have.  His character is just grumpy and entitled and annoying, yet they want us to see him as a hero. Ugh.

How about Mick? He's five years younger than Duell. He would be reunited with Maura.

Which, IMO, is one of the main reasons Chad left the show. He's not getting any younger, and if he ever dreams of making the big bucks in Hollywood, he needs to ditch the soap baggage.

It's unfortunate for me to even say that since I love this genre so much, but let's be real, the pay is just above average compared to the pay for a school teacher, not to mention the perks of fewer work hours and the ability to spend more time with family.

Outside of that, an actor who ever wants to get the gigs offered by Dick Wolf, the Russo Brothers, Marvel, DC, et al., can't be attached to a soap. That's why Nicholas Alexander Chavez wiped GH from his resume. Future jobs will reference Monsters and I Know What You Did Last Summer, among other projects he's attached to, and how he's worked for Ryan Murphy, a mega producer at Disney (and at one point Netflix).

Chavez is not doing anything others haven't done, but he will still probably have more passionate fans from GH than he will elsewhere - it feels like the Murphy buzz is already fading for him (not helped by so much of it being wrapped up in titillation over incestuous elements than praise for his work).

If Duell did leave for career reasons, he should have left a decade ago. He's not going to be able to shake the show and he's aged out of some of the roles he could have played.

Duell was phoning it in for a while, and strandng him for all that time with the charisma- less Katelyn McMullen did him no favors.

Searching for someone that hasn't already appeared in daytime (looking at the forner Noahs, Theos and Kyles of Y&R, Thomas of B&B, Chandlr and Company from Days), is the best way to go. No former friends of #firefrank "In -- Lenny Platt as Michael". Gag.

Finding an actor that can play the spark of being a Spencer, fit in with the Quarrelsome Quartermaines  and the darkness from Sonny, won't be easy. but with so many shows currently getting cancelled from all of the streaming series as well as networks, hopefully we don't get another Evan Hofer.

    • I've always liked Kim Zimmer. She's a very good actress. I think the majority of the resentment comes from how much air she, or rather, Reva, sucked out of the show. There were periods where it felt like it was All Reva, All The Time. So many male characters had to be madly on love with her, even when they had zero chemistry with her. Her rival characters, like Sonni and Annie, were practically turned into psychos (somehow Olivia escaped that fate). She was given bizarre storylines, like the clone and time travel stories, to keep her front burner. It wasn't enough to have ONE bizarre reason she was missing (living with the Amish) she had to have TWO (princess of a Caribbean island, with a secret kid--her second one--to boot). She got an insane amount of attention from TPTB, to the detriment of other characters. Possibly because the actress weaponized her fans. Maybe that's an unfair assessment, but seems to me her day had come and gone and yet she was still centered so much on the show. I agree. In the beginning she was a very good character with a beautifully composed backstory. If they had kept her grounded like that, I am certain few would have complained about her.
    • Very true...and that was the heart of what the character was and excelled at..everyone goes on about the Slut of Springfield scene, but damn, did the writing and acting come together when Reva confronted Pharoh about her early molestation by him.  THAT is the stuff that worked...not being the Queen of a dumb island.
    • Frank Valentini should thank his proverbial lucky stars that JE came out of retirement.
    • I liked Reva, too, but as I've said before, no one at that show besides Pamela K. Long knew how to write for her or for KZ.  You don't plunge a character who is OTT by design into circumstances that are equally (or more) OTT.  The trick with a character like Reva Shayne Lewis is to keep the storylines as down-to-earth as possible and allow her emotions to be bigger.  I've always said that both Reva and KZ were at their finest when they were dealing with relatively mundane things like Josh's paralysis, her marriage to H.B. and her pregnancy and subsequent miscarriage.
    • I agree!  AE was just one of those performers who could draw you in, no matter what.  I don't believe I ever saw her phone in any performance on any show.  To me, she always gave 100%.  God, how I miss seeing her on TV every day.
    • Did OLTL have books in 80's like the other soaps that covered the early storylines of the show?
    • I liked (not loved) the character of Reva. I just didn't like how she ate the show.
    • I’ve spent a lot of time at the bedside of dying family members. These hospital scenes feel very real. The entire Days team is doing incredible work.

    • LOL!  Yeah that makes sense, it seems like many soaps have that one character like this.  I do find it sad the other vets just sit around in the later years.
