The title of the thread had me worried that the new HWs were already out, but this news is totally fine. We might say slightly better directing, and if he gets rid of the establishing shots completely, all the better. I really don't understand why anyone would think they're necessary. Saves time and money on editing every episode.

While the title might be confusing to some, it's accurate with its wording. For the most part, the co-executive producer for DAYS is the showrunner as Ken Corday isn't as active in his role as EP as one would normally expect. I don't say that as a bad thing, but that's what it is.

The Co-EP at DAYS is the day-to-day showrunner.

Showrunner never implies head writer. Not unless that person is also the EP.

Name change isn't really necessary, IMO.

True, Janet didn't do much. But a lot of people said that she made the set a much better and safer environment for everyone. And if she was the one who was ultimately responsible for Ron finally being sent packing, I'm forever grateful

I agree that the unnecessary establishing shots were all her, but I also think she was responsible for the Greene siblings (Mark, Aaron and Felicity, not Cat) And for Steve Burton and Lucas Adams being sent packing as well, which I imagine made some of y'all happy

I'm looking forward to seeing if Noel Maxam does anything different and how he'll handle Days in general . According to Carson Boatman, he was the one who directed those Johnny/EJ confrontation scenes, and allowed the two of them to have multiple takes for it.

Technically, yes. But in many cases, the executive producer is also the creator of the show, and can also be showrunner. While none, except Michele Val Jean at Beyond the Gates can claim to be creator, EP/HW and showrunner at the same time when it comes to daytime soaps. At the same time, both Josh Griffith and Bradley Bell can be considered showrunners for their respective soaps since they are both EPs and HWs.

The term showrunner is generally reserved for primetime and streaming shows, but we as soap fans forget that at the end of the day, soaps are no less a TV show than their other daypart counterparts. Just like season premieres are now a thing for daytime as well. It's foreign to us, but it is a thing regardless of how many episodes a show produces or genre it's in.

I'm alone in this, but I don't mind having establishing shots though I do wonder what prompts they used to generate them - plus some consistency would help. I'm watching Monday's episode and Rafe's house is in full on spring/summer mode, but just the other week everything was heavy with snow

I think it's fine that they're playing with new technology to help the show along, but they just need to put a bit more thought in it, especially where the show is located. Right now it just seems like random words into an AI prompt.

OK, so Janet Spellman-Drucker made the set better and safer. Was that difficult for her? That was accomplished by firing Albert Alarr the pig. And I don't believe she was responsible for Carlivati's firing. I don't think she had any of that power.

Exactly right about JSD's uselessness. I've been complaining about her for months, because she has done nothing to improve the look or feel of the show.

And you all know I've been ripping on those famous Janet establishing shots for a good while. I did see her desktop page, though.

A show on the air for 60 years should not be playing with new technology the way they're playing with it. It's embarrassing.

As far as Noel Maxam goes, I think he can make a difference. Look at the job Ed Scott did at Y&R after returning as Senior Producer. The sets -- both new and existing -- have improved tremendously. We still don't have enough sets there, but the look of Y&R has clearly improved.

I trust that there are people out there who can make a show look better than its budget.
