That must be an older picture bc Keith most definitely looks the same age as the last actor

The little earrings are tacky and I certainly hope he won't be wearing them while playing this role.

I've suggested elsewhere that we may have an actual need for Derek. The example I gave was as a random victim of a homicide. Every show needs some red shirts, right?

Why make him contract then and not recurring like Doug (whom I suspect will be our first major death)?

Considering Ben Gavin apparently bought a house in Atlanta indicates he's there for the long haul.

The soaps are littered with poor saps who bought a house or moved across the country just in time to get fired.

Probably because the show values this guy in a way none of us does. Hate admitting that, though because I don't want it to be true, yet ... 🤔🙄🤷‍♀️😉

Houses can be sold just as easily as parts can be recast.

Some of these new soap fans wouldn't have made it back in the day when GH had four or five Dawns in 18 months, all the various AJs, and lord knows how many versions of Lucas. Recasts are just going to happen lol.

I haven't really watched any of this show, but the one time I saw him, he was good. I have to imagine he just wasn't up for the grind.

Yeah, as I've been dealing with stuff this weekend, it's been interesting to see how everyone is reacting to the news (and apparently Kristian Alfonso). I'm sure these newbies will get the hang of how soaps work. But them turtlenecks aren't going to hit the same for sure.

Given how active Maurice was online, I feel as well that perhaps he was not adjusting to the daily grind as well. It's safe to say that the Nicole/Ted/Leslie storyline has been set to explode in May Sweeps and that means it will build over the next month and perhaps MJ saw he was not up to the major commitment to the storyline.

I can’t remember the last time a recast was announced and the overwhelming response was people asking why two other characters weren’t replaced first 😂

I do wonder what other changes we’ll see at the 13 week mark. If Ashley and Derek are still hogging airtime come summer…💀

I wanna say as recent as a couple days ago, the actress playing Ashley has posted on instagram on set. She did post last week a post talking about reading negative things about herself online. The cast rallied in response to it. Today she posted something similar but I still don't think she's been let go but she may be concerned with how her story is being received.

He's back on Twitter today re-tweeting people asking for the show to bring him back. I guess now we know for sure he didn't leave on his own accord and this was a show-dictated move.

I think he's just re-tweeting [some] reactions, because he's also re-tweeting those that ask if he chose to leave, as well.

Lane Davies exited the role of Mason on July 21, 1989, while Terry Lester (the superior recast) debuted on September 29, 1989. According to Soap Opera Digest, it was suggested that TPTB missed the deadline date to renew Lester's contract, and when they did, he used that as his reasoning for quitting. He last appeared on November 1, 1990. Plus, it was suggested (via the same article) that he was unhappy with his storyline at the time. What's even more interesting is that it was suggested (and not denied) that Davies would return to the role, which would have been the best possible option, especially at this point in time.

It's interesting they transitioned from Lester to Gordon Thompson (a downgrade) in two different ways, and one of them Jill Farren Phelps mistakenly thought was how they went from Davies to Lester.

Huh. So I wasn't too far off, date wise. And I think you are the very first person I have come across that preferred Terry's Mason to Gordon's in terms of the recasts! (Me? Terry was a GREAT actor, but I think he was miscast as Mason. Which is odd since, on paper, Jack Abbott and Mason Capwell seemed a lot alike, but there it is!)

I'm happy to be the first you've come across! Love me some Lester as Mason.

Well, I'm sad to hear that. But I know I am in the minority in terms of liking Ashley. But thankfully, the general consensus is that she is boring, or people feel indifferent to her.

OH? Uh no now then.
