I am still drifting off while Ashley and Derek are on my screen. I can't lie and say I like them or how they are written. I also appreciate seeing all kinds of points of views. So... I'm not opposed to reading criticism about some aspects of the show. If it's logical, not bigoted and fake criticism, of course. I myself didn't like some of the dialogue in the last couple of episodes. But hey, I'm not worried. This is currently the best show on air. I'm looking forward to next week!

I think it would have been fun to say that Hayley decorated it herself. Then, you could play the set design off as person who previously never had any money before this and has a tacky taste. Think the Jungle Room in Elvis' Graceland....lol

Yes, I was pretty shocked when they mentioned that they'd hired a professional interior decorator to do it lol. I guess as other people have mentioned it's somewhat meant to mirror Dani's style in some ways, but it's by far the worst set so to explain it by Hayley doing it herself would've been good.

No one is perfect of course, but I'd be perfectly fine if they kept Nicole as the grounded character of the show because God knows, everyone else seems to have their "sumthin" so to speak. The showrunners weren't lying about this show being black people doing "messy" things.  But even Nurse Nightingale appears to be on a path of tainting her good girl image by cheating on Derek with a thirsty pint-sized playboy.

Btw... This may be unpopular... But I am enjoying couple of days of pause from the show. Why... Because I've been so addicted to it... I've started to neglect personal life... around the time the show is on. I stop answering calls... I ruin dinner by eating later than my husband. So for selfish reasons... I'm happy to breathe and relax for couple of days while I miss my show. How nice it is to have something that you "miss". And... probably the best thing forward for me will be... To adjust and start watching the uploaded versions on the official cbs channel. I had forgotten how hard it is to watch something live. Hard in terms of making it possible every day. We are definitely the streaming generation.

I only see a troublesome outcome for Andre and Ashley. I believe it was the first or second week of the show that both Aunt Nicole and Uncle Ted pretty much advised Andre to steer clear of her. And just recently, again, Aunt Nicole reiterates it. It smells like foreshadowing to me. Once Ashley gives in to his charms and sleeps with him, only to have him turn around and not pay attention to her anymore afterwards, will ignite the scorn. She accuses him of taking advantage of her and people are going to believe it because of Andre's lothario reputation. I wouldn't be surprised if Andre disappears shortly afterwards with people thinking he's just on one of his traveling photography assignments when he's actually been kidnapped via Derek. Again, the move of Vivian Alamain?

I agree with this. Nicole can have things that have happened in her past but I don't want it to be anything to taint who she has been presented as. I see her as a Viki type of heroine.

I don't know what's gonna happen here but I could see Derek turning bad which could cause a breakup and prevent her from cheating on him.

I am with you here. I know that no soap gets everything right from the beginning so I'm hoping this is the first storyline they adjust now that they've gotten feedback.

You have had a busy couple of weeks so missed the announcements about it here because this thread moves very fast and you don't want the other soaps that it effects.

Emphasis on GOOD.  Which of course is subjective.

I have truth in MVJ myself. Now RC...  And I'm really curious to see Jamey since I only have what others have said...which has been good and bad. And as people know about my relationship with humor and camp vs slapsticky and silly...I don't need to go over that again except to say I am an organic humor (think Hayley being ignored by the whole country club) kinda of guy.

I know people were mentioning in the discussion about Ashley that she has not interacted with her mother so hopefully they enjoyed it finally happened as much as next week when Naomi and Hayley finally interacted because both should have occurred by now, but better late than never. I personally enjoyed it and Ashley opened up so much more because of it.

I caught that, too!!! The crack in their scheme team is definitely showing. lol. Yeah, I feel like that...and Martin's secret are going to climax at May Sweeps. I love with Silk Press Sheila that they are really giving it the classic build, with almost-outs. Like soaps used to be.

Yeah, it is for that reason that I pointed out the Lynn Martin credit. The wonders she did on Tuesday's episode were the bee's knees to what she did on Friday's episode. And who was in charge of Friday's episode? RC. Like you, I don't know Jamey's work well enough but I'm optimistic. Look at Lynn Martin. Tuesday and Friday were night and day.

Hehe.

Yeah, I loved the Andre/Nicole scenes yesterday where he hinted that Dani is not okay and mentioned personal experience of his own. A hint of depth from Andre? Yes, please. They are doing right by Andre and Dani and I continue to love that dynamic...whatever it will grow into.

Outside of the longtime friends angle, *shrugs* I don't mind it. But I feel the actors are getting comfortable in their roles.

Someone made the comment in a tweet (with pictures) and I haven't been unable to undersee that. And apt. I love Marlena Evans.

Another reason for me to be optimistic on Jamey cuz we know I trust your judgement greatly.

As longtime soap viewers, I love that we have a soap archetype shorthand that can be expressed easily to other longtime soap viewers who are new to BTG.

  • Dani has the fire of Erica Kane -- if Erica had refused to give up her career,
    combined with Katherine Chancellor's angst/divorce/jealousy/drinking
  • Hayley is a young Jill Foster
  • Leslie/Dana is old-school Sheila Carter (not the current watered-down Sheila)
  • Gossipy Nurse Sharice Johnson is Amy Vining
  • Dr. Nicole Dupree Richardson is Dr. Marlena Evans

I could chat with anyone who knows soaps, and say those things, and they'd get it immediately.

Cady McClain said on IG that her character Pamela is the Opal Gardner to Dani's Erica Kane.
Except that we viewers saw that Pamela is all posh which is different from Opal.
So what Cady meant wasn't that Pamela is like Opal, but rather that they have that type of friendship. We haven't yet seen much of that yet, but what Cady said is an example of explaining via soap archetypes.

I really liked the two new stories this week of Naomi suing her father's firm and the mess Jacob is going to be pulled in with his (probably dirty) partner with Joey. Both have potential.

A little disappointed there wasn't a cliffhanger on Weds knowing it wouldn't be back on till Monday. Was hoping for something big like the gun at the wedding.

    • I still continue to think that Dani is written like she's been in a soap opera for 20 seasons and she's come to a point where she's completely spent storyline wise. It's a vibe I'm getting. Characterization wise... It's like she is either incredibly stupid... or just plain delusional and out of touch with reality. I choose to pick the second option. Also... to me... she has not been entertaining for months now. Ever since they decided to jump straight to... she's an alcoholic... which we didn't need at this point... the character has struggled. Her initial Ex-wife-from-hell bravado was more interesting, even though cliche.  I expect her to improve in the coming months... they used her as a clown type of character to draw in views. Now I need to see the human being. If there is one, behind the soap opera caricature.
    • A full 1973 episode that looks fantastic in color.
    • It 's obviously cheaper to go the true crime route. Having different reporters and production teams covering a variety of topics costs more. The networks are delivering budget programming these days.
    • Maybe because 60 Minutes has kept the same formula for almost 57 years? Usually, there is more than one interview/topic discussed, like a real magazine. Dateline, 20/20, and so many others have all fallen to the one-subject formula: True crime. I mean, I'm a Forensic Files junkie and loved original America's Most Wanted back in the day, but even I think the TV market has been over-saturated with all crime, all the time. There was still that element when these shows began, but they were a segment of an episode, not the entire episode. Maybe the audience is just getting bored with such a fixed formula. If stories were intermixed with crime, some feel-good segment, and maybe something to do with lifestyle/music/and yes, as much as I have come to hate it, political issues, maybe these shows could rally. As they are - again, minus 60 Minutes - they have become tired and predictable.
    • Interesting tidbit- Robert Newman (Josh) dated Jennifer Cooke (Morgan) when they first started on Guidling Light (it was reported in the press and I think they talked about it in interviews). I did see (as a young kid) Rita having a flashback about Roger's rape of her --and it was confusing as a kid because she was on the floor leaning against her bed and she looked like she was seduced by force and her dress was in disarray, her hair was mussed, make up was a bit messy, but she looked at him with fear, disgust and confusion but the camera was in soft focus (so I get why people may say it was romanticized)--and I remember asking what happened to her and told well she is having nightmares/flashbacks of Roger not being nice to her
    •   Like I said I wasn’t talking about characterization. It makes sense that Dani is in denial. However literally no one in the real world would accuse someone of faking a pregnancy. Why? Because it’s just not feasible. What is Dani supposed to expect from Hayley—that she’ll be hiding a pillow under her shirt 24/7? Come on. The accusation has no legs, and that’s exactly why nobody would ever go there. A far more plausible accusation—one that actually has been made for centuries—is that someone might lie about who the father is. Dani only vaguely hinted at that, but at least that angle would make some narrative sense. I’d go for a coworking space that would be home to these small businesses like Kat and Chelsea’s bag startup (the whole police station trope feels like copaganda to me)
    • I guess RTPP looked worse because it followed Another World, but it's a shame they didn't give it more time especially considering how the shows that were put on following it fared.
