GH: March 2025 Discussion Thread

I would say it's down to more than just having a lot of daytime veterans - some of the daytime veterans are among the worst actors on the show, while some of the new hires of the last few years are real bright spots.

We're still getting some moments, but I think the Carly favoritism has been much worse in some years than now - admittedly that is because Carly is about as boxed in as we have seen the character, so it could change, but it's not on the level of even a few years ago where everyone kept dragging Nina through the mud for daring to report Carly to the cops.

How you describe GH is how I'd say it has been for a long time, including in Mulcahey's run (which I don't put all on him as he was clearly being sabotaged, but few things bore me more with this show than "We're all mad at Sonny...but psst...it's not actually his fault!"), but I think there are still some surprisingly good moments at times. Part of that is down to them taking what Mulcahey gave them and running with it (albeit in a very clunky, one-note manner), like the Drew darkness, and part is finally smoothing over some stories that had rougher starts (like the whole Brook Lynn/Dante/Gio story).

I think it's just disappointing to watch the show because you know it probably won't ever be allowed to improve, that any small improvements are cut off and any improvements are probably network mandates (like firing Easton and Howarth), which isn't how things should be. And you can see the spite from Frank and co in how some of those mandates are executed (the returns of Lucky and Lulu).

As the quality writers who kept the show watchable on a day-to-day basis are long gone, there's even less reason to ever hope for improvement, which can make things too demoralizing to even want to sit through.

BtG is the great new hope, even though some of the writers (outside of Michele Val Jean) are the same group who did severe damage to GH, so GH is always going to be harder to watch. I can't really compare them as shows because both are in the same boat - they will be lucky to survive year to year, given the state of TV and of the genre. I hope they make it. Hell, I hope any of us make it year to year, let alone the soaps. But I also know that the GH which makes it is never going to be the show you or many others mourn.

Which veterans would you say are "among the worst"? I'm looking at the vets list, and I don't have a problem with any of the, honestly.

I've always maintained: Carly becoming "untouchable" by anyone in Port Charles has become overkill, and those that do touch her become the "bad boy" (i.e., Ava & Nina). The last time she felt touchable was right before the "writer" became head writer. Garin Wolf made her touchable.

Realistically, ABC should just ditch Varni & Valentini, and then put someone else back into the helm, and allow some actual changes to be made. Until then, I'm sure Disney ABC is just waiting for GH to drain their bank accounts so they can shut it down.

Benard is the top of the list for me. Burton has improved but he still does little for me compared to others on the show. And there is just a big slew of "OK...I guess," like Wally Kurth.

Even with Garin Wolf it was a break from established patterns. I think for most of Laura's tenure she's been written this way, for various reasons.

Knowing nothing from nothing, do we predict that Kevin will raise Ace in the other room for the next few years?  Or do you think we'll get an explanation for his absence?

Because I certainly hope that they are not looking to absolve Sonny of his sins, by practicing the common decency of helping his friend Laura through loss.  And I'm not talking about the use of limousines, which is how Sonny has 'helped' women grieve in the past.

Sonny killed Jagger for less but just let Valentin go. And Brennan had Valentin dead to rights but wanted to have a whole conversation before Anna even showed up

Please Donna stop.  Hit upon whatever you want privately but you can't even respond to my fairly nice PM.  You aren't changing.  You aren't doing anything on this board except making it toxic.

You literally told me your entire post towards me was cut off and Idk I have been posting all day fine.  You should probably talk to the MODs about that.

Ridiculous!!

Anna should've just killed all three at the pier.

Anna telling Valentin he had to pay because he had already committed too many crimes.

Yet, Sonny hasn't paid for Jagger's murder, and I've lost count of how many he's committed.

Speaking of he's having a nice cup of tea with Mayor Laura.

General Hospital is a joke.

No wonder they are dead last in demos.

    • I thought today was still good. Leo is always awful, but the characters treating him like he's a plague feeds my soul. Rafe in particular had been very passive about him, but today was wonderful seeing him put Leo on notice. I really think it's being written that Javi is going to have to eventually take the blinders off and see Leo for who he really is. Them having sex on Gabi's desk made me want to explode. Roman taking in stray Doug was nice to see. And the mention of Frankie and Max was unexpected, but good to know they're at least being thought of. Tate being petty and a bit vindictive by going back to Sophia's as soon as he saw Doug with Holly was entertaining for me. I think I actually like Tate the most out of all of them because he's so damn messy.  Is Holly about to be kidnapped? Her first time?
    • That would have saved the Anita singing segment -- having her by herself, singing quietly and reflectively. Belting it out like she was in church did not work. The black screens fade at the end was a mistake. BTG insists on being different with these fades for the sake of being different, and it's not working.   I thought all of that was just fine. Worked for me.   I'm going to disagree with this. Martin hasn't had many scenes with his parents, but he's been around family A LOT -- and that's what matters. We also know Martin is someone with a hair trigger response. He can be very emotional when discussing an issue before getting to the logic and reason of it all.
    • My view of Evan is that he's smart but not as smart as he thinks he is, not a good guy but not an entirely bad guy - he's a lot of things, the show never quite knowing what to do with them. I never saw him as Iris' follower because Iris always seemed a bit in over her head from the start.
    • She was the Town Historian, who knew a bit too much about Brandon and the infamous cottage.  SF was still a pretty normal place at that time, with Nola and Reva being the most outrageous citizens....seems that Carrie Pipper would have stood out a bit more for people.

    • Yes, I need to dot hat. Also on my list talking to the person I got these files from since they clearly have a mess, in terms of dates being wrong. And, unfortunately finding one date wrong, automatically means more are wrong, too.
    • I'm hoping that it doesn't happen. If the show keeps putting out good performance and story it will be hard to shut it out. Daphnee, Trisha, Ambyr and Colby are earning nominations without question.
    • Speaking of correcting dates, since you mentioned it above, why don't you go back to your Saturday post and edit it and replace your wording of "DAYS Ruth Buzzi 11-2-83"  with "DAYS Ruth Buzzi 11-1-83" and add a note that the video has the wrong date of 11/2/83 on it, and that the video is actually 11/1/83.
