Don't apologize!  Your work is invaluable.  I thought it had taken place much earlier and just took a peek to see if that was the episode.  And then just started looking back because it felt like the same time period.  I frankly barely remember any of this era and kind of wanted to look what RoJohn was up to.  Thanks again for all you do!

I'm just now getting back into the loop of news after hurricane power outages.

John was my first favorite character. In so many ways, he was the perfect soap character. A blank slate, a background easily adaptable to whatever it needed to be. Days sometimes abused that by giving John so many storylines that established his real identity ... and they mostly fell flat. Mainly because John was a mystery that never should have been solved.

Hogestyn was still very much a newcomer to acting when he signed on with Days, and I think that's what made John Black initially work. John's uncertainty about not knowing anything about himself was made for a developing actor also finding himself. Hogestyn was never the greatest, but he pulled his weight quickly. Marlena falling from the building and the wedding were barely months later.

It's been a treat seeing tributes from all the actresses who were young when they first met him. He was a natural with kids in scenes, his goofiness bringing out the best in them.

There was a small scene that was a favorite back when YouTube had all the great clips. Victor planned to marry Diana. Roman was invited and, on a snowy night, found out he, Justin and Serena were pretty much the only guests. With Diana not ready yet (nervously up in her room), Roman pretends to get extremely drunk to get kicked out ... so he could rescue Diana. There are a bunch of hilarious retorts and lines, all playing to his acting style.

I moved on to prefer other characters, other actors, but always had a soft spot for Drake Hogestyn.

You probably included them in this statement but, for posterity, right or wrong, ROMAN and Marlena's kids, too. Since John did raise those kids and loved them like his own for so many years...

Still trying to wrap my head around this, days later.

It's true what he says in this clip.
They could give him a crazy storyline because he'd play it as real as he could, and it worked.
He played every scene as if it were real, in the moment,
 and never tongue-in-cheek..

    • Mm-hmm; this is why the storyline, despite some standout performances, is an absolute mess. History of what we've seen played out is being ignored by the so-called historian "Elizabeth Korte" for their own storied history. Treating audiences like they're morons (well...) is not going to help your case.
    • I never watched the prior Brook Lynn actresses, except for Briana Lane's brief stint.  So I'm primarily familiar with Amanda's Brook Lynn. I did watch Lois and Ned decades ago when they first met and he was Eddie Maine.  I do remember Lois wanting honesty and feeling weird about Quartermaine nonsense.  I don't remember the details because I was watching it on live broadcast and it was so long ago, but I do remember in general what their characterizations were back then, (and that Wally was hot back then). There were many years I didn't watch GH at all because I objected to the mobster stuff.  So I have missed a lot.
    • That was weird because I wasn't sure if Doug saw them or not.  Both Johnny and Tate's backs were turned, but Doug 3 obviously knows Tate.  He didn't really react, so I am assuming he didn't see who she pointed out clearly. I got you!!  Lol.  You've already blamed this Days experiment of yours on me so the least I can do is answer your questions.
    • Yes, I am sure not everyone remembers Brook Lynn's romance with the Text Message Killer or her foray into being a paid escort first by Carly and then by Nik.  Those two examples you cited are when Amanda was actually in the role and are relatively recent.
    • These things especially make the retcon weird.  I mean all of the examples you cited, but especially those.
    • May 16th interview with Cherie Jimenez.   30 minutes long. (for returning viewers, she's the current Gabi -- mother of Will&Sonny's daughter Arianna.  Cherie has been airing since June 2024). This was previously was posted on the spoiler thread because it mentioned the casting of Marissa Reyes as SORASed Arianna Horton, and the recent scene where Gabi noticed Arianna wasn't in her room. Now that all of this has aired, I'm bringing it over to the main thread, as there are no spoilers anymore. Cherie is 40.  Marissa is 21, playing an 18-year-old.  Cherie is aware that they look more like sisters than mother/daughter.  Interestingly, Cherie said that in real life, her own mother was a teen when Cherie was born, and that people commonly mistake Cherie and her mom as sisters. Most of the interview is about Cherie as Gabi, getting cast, working with Brandon Barash, working with Casey Moss.

    • So, I guess John might be on the way out now that Robert is back and Nate's body has been found....  Or are they going to jump through hoops to keep him on the show and make us watch two Sugdens fight over a Dingle?

    • I preferred the Devil spawn delivery of the previous Rachel. She felt like the perfect child of Kristen DiMera and all the dysfunction she’s been through. The new actress is just a sweet girl.
    • I just read a new post where PersonB was quoting personA and I wanted to comment on the post so I started to quote ... with  I myself as the PersonC. I tried to quote what PersonB quoted from PersonA.  It should have been attributed to PersonA, but before submitting the post, I checked to see how it would display, and it automatically misatributed PersonA's words to PersonB.  So I didn't click to submit the post. So yes this is an ongoing glitch. I will need to take the time to go back and find the original post from PersonA to quote that.
