NBC aired Alone At Last on June 24 1980 up against Three's Company and the CBS movie.

It was the lead in to a 90 min news special.

So it was a textbook example of burning off a dud show. It didn't even get a slot NBC was using for comedy, like Wed after Diff'rent Strokes or Sat after Sanford.

Not every show needs to be the gold standard. Sometimes a show is just mindless fun (Like watching a soap head-written by a Margaret Depriest or Megan Mctavish) which we all need to balance out the obnoxious shows (like any soap head-written by Douglas Marland)

I noticed the late Valerie Mahaffey in the Doritos ad. She and Julie Haggerty had a similar comedic style.

This one's been making the rounds on Facebook: 1988's Old Money, intended for CBS. The ensemble cast includes Don Porter and Nan Martin as the heads of the family, plus Lori Loughlin, Conchata Ferrell, John Dye, Jim Piddock, and Sandy Faison (the original Grace Farrell in Annie), among others.

It's fascinating to me that in the course of two years, 1986-88, all four broadcast networks tried their luck with an "Oh, those kooky rich!" sitcom. NBC -- Easy Street and technically Marblehead Manor. FOX -- Down and Out in Beverly Hills. ABC -- The Thorns. CBS -- the Old Money pilot. And not a one of them clicked with viewers.

I was watching some promos from Easy Street a few days ago and the whole thing is even worse than I remembered, in spite of Loni's likeability. All kinds of "aren't those homeless people so endearingly weird compared to our classy rich lady." You'd think Down and Out in Beverly Hills would have shamed them.

Thanks for the pilot. John Dye was also in The Nerd around this time.

Sandy and Lori both worked with Joel Crothers on EON, about a year apart. I wonder if they swapped any stories.

I used to get them confused in the early '90s.

I didn't realize until a year or two ago that they switched in and out of the same role on Women of the House. I dropped that show after one episode.
