Wow, Bob Guza back in daytime!  I can't see him joining as just a breakdown writer or script writer.  I wonder if he'll get a secondary co-HW title, or a Story Consultant title.   The other writer has to be Mulcahey.  Is MVJ reuniting the old GH team?  Is Karen Harris next?  But I agree with those saying you have to add younger writers as well.

JHC is daytime veteran who can handle day-to-day production - I was wondering who would get this job because all the EPs of the show don't have history with day-to-day soap production.

think he was at GH first actually - in the Monty '80s under Anne Howard Bailey

Correct. He worked on the show as a scriptwriter in the early to mid 80’s. One of the reasons the Cassadine Nikolas story was so detailed was because he was there back then and knew and cared how to line the pieces up.

He didn’t have the open disdain for soaps until he came back from Sunset Beach, and it really sets in when he came back in 2002.

I feel like the show he ran and its tone and casual death make him still part and parcel of those decisions. I understand his team repping for him, but it's more complicated than that.

It makes me a little less angry in hindsight because those were the big two that I think really destabilized the show through today to be honest. But you are correct, misery and death was his business on GH and the tone was mostly his.

According to soap hub,  Guza and Hanan Carruthers will be EP's. They join Val Jean, Sheila Ducksworth, Leon Russell, Derrick Johnson, & Kimberly Doebereiner who will also EP.

Never seen so many EP's for a daytime soap

A lot of those people are representing separate corporate interests that are investing in the program like P&G, CBS, and the NAACP. Assuming people like Guza and Carruthers were hired by MVJ to help steer the day to day writing and production, which the corporate representatives are not going to be doing. It's not really typical for daytime, but often done in primetime, streaming, and film.

I do wonder if  Sheila Ducksworth, Leon Russell, Derrick Johnson, & Kimberly Doebereiner  will be like Steve Kent at Y&R and be Execs in charge of Prod.

Yeah that is basically what I thought and posted something similar below

Ooops, I must've glossed over that part of Guza being an EP.  I knew he wouldn't join a soap as such a BDW or SW.  LOL.   Thanks.

Is that source reliable? I’ve never seen that outlet before. I do love seeing Guza’s name potentially in the writers room. He’s been part of several soap launches and he knows how to do big splash stories which The Gates will need from the jump.

I also think its good to be in ATL instead of LA for production. They’ll be able to get a good studio space and nice tax breaks.

Seeing Julie Hanan Carruthers name again made me wince though. Her PC and AMC runs lacked real distinction production wise other than the fact PC had 13 week arcs and AMC had that ugly shaky film look for minute. To stand out this show needs to visually be more modern and grand than the other soaps.

MVJ commented on someone saying about Guza and Georgie on GH, so I'd say it's true given she didn't dispute it(she mentioned Guza didn't kill off Georgie, they were on strike when she was killed off)

I'm glad they won't be taping too far ahead from when it airs, no DAYS crap where they're 6 months ahead lol

It'll be 4 months ahead at the end of 2025 if the last day of filming it 8/25/25. That doesn't seem ideal for the first  year of a show to work out its kinks, but financial realities are what they are.

Where do you get that? They start taping in November and Premiere in Early January, that's 6 weeks ahead at best

Well I’m thrilled to finally see some details on this, especially getting a filming schedule, filming in Atlanta as I hoped, but also to see a DC/MD setting….it sounds promising.

Interesting to see Guza come out of retirement for this as well, I hope we have a positive from this and not a negative effect. I had wonder about his whereabouts following Meg’s passing, glad he’s keeping busy with this project.

"The Gates will shoot in Atlanta from November 4, 2024, to August 29, 2025."

Manny posted that on page 80.

I know you all are speculating Atlanta, but don't rule out Los Angeles.

The announcement was made when it was for a reason. That's as much as I can say right now.

So, did something change here or was CBS reading this thread and decided on Atlanta as the production location? 😁
