Now that we know that this show is an official piece of trash, I fully expect to see this one playing thuggish Elon Hawthorne, Jacob's dad.

I agree! Maybe kind of "I'll talk to my sister that way but, you can't!"

I wonder if they'll post the first episode on YouTube for free, just to get the word out. A few shows do, Drag Race and Real Housewives for example. Not the best comparison but, you get my drift.

I could see them posting the Pilot on YouTube. CBS/Showtime has done that before in recent years. Speaking of Drag Race and Housewives I think it would also be smart to get some ad space during the airing of those shows and some black shows outside of CBS.

@ReddFoxx I could see that too!

I respect your opinion, but I don’t think like you.

Years ago, there were no streaming services so I thought it was just right to appeal soap opera fans. But right now, in this new world, you can have a big success only by streaming. See Netflix and all the others streaming services.

I think the issue here is that I don't really see a way to market this as something else as a soap - because it's what it rather shamelessly is. In addition, part of why Beyond the Gates happened is likely because soaps do well for their cost on streaming (which the continued renewals of Days of our Lives and Neighbours seem to indicate), especially compared to shows like The Talk that probably has very little rewatch value beyond their initial airing.

If there was some sort of twist to it - let's say like Edge of Night where there's a crime case that's being used as an umbrella story - I could see them focusing on that element to set it apart from other soaps. But here I don't really see it - in fact, the most unique element is that it revolves around a black family and they're already doing an ample job at promoting that to appropriate outlets. Another part of why this show happened is after all because CBS noticed strong demographic numbers from African-American females.

But other than that - go broad for the soap audience, especially the lapsed one that might've fallen out of watching their daily soap and wants to try get into something from the ground floor.

The one thing I'd like them to do though is "character" ads to introduce storylines and character motivations more:

Yes, even as recently as the premiere episode of "Watson," CBS has continuously released the first episode of its latest shows on YouTube. The same is true for Paramount+.

I would expect the first episode, or even the first week of episodes, of Beyond the Gates to be released to the platform.

RE: Mike Manning. His character's name is Bradley “Smitty” Smith, but on the show, he'll be primarily referred to as Smitty.

Anyone else going to (try their best) to go spoiler free?

I will watch trailers, but yes! I'm going to try to avoid any reports from the screenings.

That's me with anything, outside the trailers I'll avoid knowing much until watching the actual thing! I'm already excited with what I've seen

This is 🔥 and great we get to see more focus on individual characters. The beauty shots of the actors make me wanna crack open Adobe and play with opening credit ideas lol

Other than big casting news and seasonal previews I try to avoid spoilers for all shows because it takes away from the enjoyment factor for me. Once BTG actually begins airing if its not in the weekly promo or casting news I’m not trying to see it.

For those who can’t see the promo on TVLine

I have a feeling that Hayley may end up being a much more rootable and sympathetic character than what the Duprees want us to believe. It can't be hard with Dani constantly raging at her. A homewrecker? Maybe, but it takes 2 to tango and it seems like she does genuinely love Bill rather than using him for just the money and power.
