It's 12:32am in my neck of the woods right now so it's Friday. Good luck to this attractive bunch today. I'm rooting for them ALL.

I still can hardly believe there is going to be a new soap. I cannot wait to watch.

I just keep thinking of Kristoff St. John and Ellen Holly. What a ride.

It can't be a coincidence that the remaining soaps are suddenly featuring their black actors more and plan to add new faces.

BTG hasn't even aired yet and is already causing change lol. THE IMPACT

I was just thinking this as I've been watching GH lately.  They seem to be beefing up both the black stories/cast as well as the LGBTQ side of things.  Competition from BTG will be good for them all, I hope.

I like that Carter finally feels like an important player on B&B but the timing couldn’t be any more convenient and I doubt it lasts once Bell figures out what to do with whatever is happening behind the scenes with the role of Thomas.

JG is clearly just recycling the same pattern he always pulls by temporarily shoring up black characters for a few months before purging the canvas back to the default of Lily, Devon and Nate (who inherited this last spot from Neil).

GH has the better amount of black characters but its very clear they see them all as secondary to their white counterparts in a way thats even more infuriating to watch than the other shows.

Its gonna be so great to have BTG and see black characters just be the focal point without all of the unnecessary bs.

Yes BOLD is using Carter, but the story for him is awful and he's unlikeable. Where's Zende? Where's Poppy? They should be using all their actors of color and so on.

It was something I always expected to happen. The writing for these characters still seems to be mediocre but I guess we will see if the quality of writing for BTG will really challenge the remaining soaps to step up their standards.

It’s too little too late for those legacy soaps. They refuse to do the work of making the Black characters feel fully three-dimensional, human, and interesting, and often drop them in big stories where their motivations feel largely contrived or forced, because we’re not that intimate with them. See Carter or Justin on B&B. So it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy that they are disliked (the discourse on Portia from GH fans is… suspect… but you also realize how shoddy the writing has been for her. She’s obsessed with protecting her daughter from Heather, yet she and Trina didn’t share a single scene for MONTHS. Most soap characters are poorly written these days, but many of them are familiar and had better, more compelling writing in the past that they can still mine. That’s not the case for most Black characters. Devon and Lily are coasting on Neil’s legacy.)
