THR: CBS Daytime Soap ‘Beyond the Gates’ Casts Three Lead Roles

Tamara Tunie, Daphnee Duplaix and Karla Mosley will play lead roles in the soap — which also has a new title, adding “Beyond” to its former name The Gates — that’s set to premiere in early 2025. Beyond the Gates will be the first daytime drama centered on Black characters since NBC’s Generations in 1989, and the first such hour-long show ever.

We officially have casting news, and a new title change too!

Tamara Tunie is fabulous news! Mosley is also very good to hear. Loved Tunie on ATWT & also primetime SVU. Mosley was quite good on GL & then I tuned in to see her play Maya on B&B

Now are we going to go with "BTG"?

(fell asleep, missed embargo lift by an hour...oh well, [!@#$%^&*] happens).

New Details Announced (TL; DR):

  • "The Gates" is now called "Beyond The Gates."
  • Key Art/Logo for "Beyond The Gates" released.
  • Soap alums Tamara Tunie ("As The World Turns"), Daphnee Duplaix ("One Life to Live," "Passions") and Karla Mosley are the first actors officially cast by the show.
  • "Beyond The Gates" is a one-hour daytime drama.
  • The series is set to premiere in early 2025. Previously, CBS announced it would debut in January 2025.
  • CBS has formally announced the series will begin production later this fall in Atlanta; confirming the film location (city), but not studio.
  • Robert Guza Jr. ("General Hospital," "Sunset Beach") and Julie Carruthers ("All My Children," "Port Charles") are officially confirmed as executive producers, joining a team led by creator, showrunner, and executive producer Michele Val Jean, and fellow executive producers Sheila Ducksworth, Leon Russell, Derrick Johnson and Kimberly Doebereiner.
  • Anna Saalfeld is also a new addition to the executive producer team, having never been previously announced. This makes it eight executive producers behind "Beyond The Gates," the most for a daytime drama series ever.
  • P&G Studios, a division of Procter & Gamble, remains on board as a partner on the series which is being developed and produced by the CBS Studios/NAACP Venture, led by Ducksworth.
  • An official synopsis has been released for "Beyond The Gates."

Note: "BTG" will be the official acronym used for "Beyond The Gates" on the SON Community. Posts/threads created should always start with "BTG:" going forward.

For reference, the current soap acronyms are "B&B" (The Bold and the Beautiful), "DAYS" (Days of our Lives"), "GH" (General Hospital") and "Y&R" (The Young and the Restless).

Also, #BeyondTheGates is the official hashtag to be used on social media, per CBS.

Facebook and Instagram pages have been created, but are not active. Will share the link when they are officially available.

I'm loving the thought of Tamara Tunie being the "Stephanie Forrester" of this show. She deserves this and so much more.

The casting so far, is great. And I knew the character names would change as soon as we got more information about casting and etc. Here's to getting to know the Dupree family!

Correct. The original name for Antia was "Betty," BTW.

Now I know why they had that weird embargo lift time of 7:48 a.m. ET. Haha.

Since I live in LA right now, that was 4:48 a.m. PT. Which is why I fell asleep at the last minute.

I'm going to have to review the character sketches for the two daughters. Not sure where to look.

I've never been big on KM but Tunie is a huge get. I wasn't sure she'd ever do daytime again. Daphnee of course I love. (It means she can’t be tentpole Rachel Gannon Buchanan in the OLTL revival in my head that is never ever happening, but oh well.)
