I'm intrigued by what I read about the plans, especially Sara and Betty. I love that Betty's husband is a retired senator and the fact that the show is set in the D.C. area. The first thing that popped into my mind was whether we might be looking at a January 6, 2025 debut. And, if so, whether there could be a tie-in to the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Well, I've been posting here forever and giving my perspective and ideas on what these shows should do. More so in the classic soaps section b/c I don't pay attention to the last 4 soaps (lately) as I feel they are lost causes.

And if Michele is hiring for writers, it won't be anyone doing story-projecting. It'll be writers who'll either be breakdown writers or script writers. But as aforementioned, she needs Black writers to surround herself with to capture the true essence of our experience, culture, lingo, etc.

Sounds like classic soap. And hopefully no cringey camp

I’m seriously considering taking the day off from work on the day the pilot premieres and watching it live with y’all.

And Guza! Despite what GH became under him, you can’t deny that the day to day writing was high quality.

I would deny that, as one of the reasons I stopped watching on a regular basis was down to how much the show bored me, but that may be down to Riche and the rotting at the top of ABC Daytime as much as him. I would agree he had a better scriptwriting team than the show had after he left.

My main issue with his involvement is that I never felt like he had any respect for soaps. He came from films, and he spent his entire daytime career trying to ape films and primetime TV - Sopranos, Godfather, Thelma and Louise, what have you. As the years passed, his contempt for the genre became more and more apparent.

I know it's slim pickings with former soap personnel as many of the best are dead or extremely old, and I am sure MVJ has a good relationship with him, but I hope there are going to be more people involved who actually have any kind of respect for soaps, as that is desperately needed when starting a new show.

Is that source reliable? I’ve never seen that outlet before. I do love seeing Guza’s name potentially in the writers room. He’s been part of several soap launches and he knows how to do big splash stories which The Gates will need from the jump.

I also think its good to be in ATL instead of LA for production. They’ll be able to get a good studio space and nice tax breaks.

Seeing Julie Hanan Carruthers name again made me wince though. Her PC and AMC runs lacked real distinction production wise other than the fact PC had 13 week arcs and AMC had that ugly shaky film look for minute. To stand out this show needs to visually be more modern and grand than the other soaps.

Guza is very good at certain things. I don't have a problem with him (or Mulcahey) being part of a team headed by someone else.

I think he was at GH first actually - in the Monty '80s under Anne Howard Bailey. He also drifted into classic Canuck horror flicks (Curtains, Prom Night, etc.) and then came back over time. But yes, he spent years disdaining soaps and trying to turn them into primetime/film. Still, he understands the fundamentals and big splashy stories.

I don't dislike her as much as others; I feel like she did what she could with what she had, and felt she did well as transferring the soap from the east to west coasts, and keeping [most] of her cast on board. Plus, the HD production for All My Children was some of the best, ever!

OPE!

I can now take Alan and Georgie off his list of bad decisions.

My only concerns with this news is that those are hands that know how to steer a soap, but they have to be surrounded by newer talent too. Otherwise it’s not going to work, because folks like Guza and Carruthers presided over nothing but decline. I want this show to soar! And the unnamed writer is to be Mulcahey, right?
