GH: March 2024 Discussion Thread

Talent isn't the issue. The issue is the state of the industry, with a half dozen streaming giants falling apart or restructuring and everything in tumult. It's entirely possible those seas remain very choppy for a long while for working actors, and in that situation daytime becomes a safe harbor for many. It's possible that could include Chavez, if not right away then later. A few years ago his potentially returning soon wouldn't even be a consideration, but things are different.

Thank you-please take care of yourself!  I just had some travel, work, and personal engagements come up.  Nothing serious!  Just no GH time.

Thanks!  Take care as well!  I think any extra prayers for a Vanessa return are useful though

I just don't think it's happening even though I can clearly see where Brenda could fit into so many of these stories.   Obviously, I think Brenda makes everything better, but there are a lot of places where it would be easy for Brenda to explain situations better (ie Jagger/Jason/Sonny) or be that model with an edge (yes, I know she's 50 plus, but still more dynamic than Sasha), or put Ava/Nina in their places in regards to Sonny.

Oh, I'm not predicting it at all. But if ABC is truly getting serious about making GH competitive and strong again, Vanessa (and possibly finding some flexible deal with JJ, a man can dream) is out there. It would certainly crank things up if Brenda blew back into town on the same day as, say, a clueless Sonny having his latest mob wedding to Ava Jerome-Cassadine, a la his Zacchara union.

Yes!  Definitely.  There have been many times over the last decade or so that I thought Brenda was barely relevant.  But with Jason, Jagger, Lois, Sonny, Deception, etc on the canvas, she actually would fit in seamlessly again.  Not expecting it, but it would be a delightful surprise.   I would probably prioritize getting one Laura child on the canvas before Brenda, but again the show is very invested in Sonny and his women so it could happen.  You could easily also bring her rando son in to join the Joss/Trina/Dex scene.

I hope it is revealed that Valentin has been paying the facility’s to keep Lulu in a coma.  Make Valentin a true villain but also keep him human by continuing to show his love for Anna, Nina, Charlotte and Alexis.

I can see why she may have wanted people to know she didn't write the scene where Trina called herself a bitch and apologized to her horrible "friend," but I do wonder if these responses are from an awareness she isn't going to get other work in daytime anyway.

I know no one cares, including the characters, but just for finality's sake, where did the show leave off with Austin's murder?

Also, how annoyed would you be to be Michael right now, having spent $5 million for no reason? Can one get a refund on paying someone's bail? Tax write off?

We dunno whodunit.

It just reminds me of Ron spending overtime on GH Twitter telling people his important scenes were cut for time and constantly throwing the show or other personnel under the bus in doing so. You can't over-engage like that, especially in this tiny industry.

It's also more nuanced re: Trina, since a few days ago she got her best scenes in ages with the very well-written and acted extended monologue segments at Spencer's grave, which will probably go on an Emmy reel. They reminded me of similar monologue stuff from the '90s.

That would be a good twist

I'm fairly certain the money is a bond - like putting your house up as collateral for a loan - and would have been repaid anyway after the outcome of any trial, provided Jason attended all his court appearances and didn't run. Otherwise there is no incentive to stay.

I don't think Michael has to pay literally 5 million just a bond.

If Jason's charges are dropped or he's acquitted he gets the money back.  I am pretty sure Michael gets the money back after court fees and what not even if Jason is guilty as long as he doesn't run out on trial.

ETA @Dion beat me to the answer lol

    • Not trying to be a contrarian, but I don't think the show needs a rival family.  Rival families have been over-done on soaps since the 1980s. And it might make the show too predictable.  I'd prefer they beef-up the have-not group with perhaps a couple of workers from the Country Club and one or two Dupree servants, joining the existing group of have-nots.  That would give the audience more opportunity to see Fairmont Crest life from the "backstairs."  To me this would be a far more interesting perspective than another wealthy family to rival the Duprees.
    • I wonder if that's why Valerie quit. I think some of the magazines at the time implied issues with Valerie and the producer, although I may be wrong. Painting Diana as going bad would have made more sense to me near the end of her run.
    • Carter & Thomasina were also stuck with a baby almost immediately and didn't get much to do after they finished high school. Carter's father was killed off and Marley drifted out of their friend group because of Jake. They left town after Carter's father died (of tomb dust!) and before Quinn died (unreasonably murdered by the Sin Stalker for dating Zack Edwards).
    • She most definitely would. And I would enjoy watching it! Yes, I agree, that was a very touching moment in her interview. It helped me feel much more connected to her as a performer. I also got the feeling from her, Live with DD, that she wanted to go deeper in conversation.
    • It really does feel like JG is getting off on torturing Shick fans.
    • That part I am not sure about, maybe Depboy might know?  The thing to remember about the show at that time was, it was so plot-driven and desperate that characters and their motivations changed virtually overnight.  There was a period of time where Diana Taylor suddenly became a bad guy and was in cahoots with Cameron Faulkner (toward the end of Valerie Starret's portrayal), which I HATED.
    • I'm going by clips so it's possible that the fan who did the editing made it look a different way than it was.
    • I’m sure Trisha-Mann Grant would love to play those layers too.  It stuck me when she said in an interview that she could identify with the pain Leslie carried because she was a single mother of two struggling with no help raising her kids at one point. You can tell playing Leslie means a lot to her, as devious as the character is (which I’m sure is fun to play for any actor)!
