2023 Writers + Actors Strike Thread

No surprise that The Hack, I mean The Wrap, would do a story about daytime talkshows surviving without writers.  I mean, in any other forum, this would not be something to crow about.

Not enough! Here's an excerpt from Jason47 website of Days production schedule. Ron previously confirmed he wrote through Xmas; therefore, the show will have shot about 32 episodes since 12/26 episode was filmed (as they shoot 8 per week).  But I believe Sheri Anderson (who we assume is at least co-head writing) may have finished additional several weeks' worth of scripts.

By 9/22/22 (last year) they had 12 no tape weeks. This year to this point they have 16 weeks no tape. Clearly, the strike and Alaar debacle caused the additional 4 week studio closure.

With Days shooting schedule, it makes sense that there would be weeks of scripts pre written.  I think in June, Ron had said almost all his scripts were filmed..and that the day the strike started..he was immediately replaced by whoever is headwriting during the strike.

So I do think we will have 4 months or so have scripts written

The “Dancing With the Stars” premiere will more than likely be delayed next week, as talent has begun dropping out of the show amid rising pressures during the WGA strike.

“Veep” actor Matt Walsh, who is part of the Season 32 cast, is “taking a pause” from the ABC dance competition show until an agreement is made with the WGA. Walsh is a member of WGA, SAG-AFTRA and the DGA.

ABC confirmed to Variety that the network is putting plans in place to postpone the “Dancing With the Stars” premiere.

It's an odd story because SAG made a specific statement in support of actors appearing on DWTS, but I assume people don't want to cross the picket line and Walsh is supporting WGA, not SAG by pausing his commitment.

The cast updated in recent weeks to say they began shooting 9 1/2 to 10 episodes per week now.    Judi Evans said it on the Linda Dano podcast, and another actor said it at a fan event.   Jason has updated his chart to show that change, just in the recent weeks.

The fired creepy producer [name redacted] was trying to be showrunner and was "organizing scripts" after the writers strike began,  whatever that means, but it sounds like he tried supervising the writing department or .... ? ?  So he did that in May, June, and July, and was fired August 4th.  Nobody really knows who has been scab-headwriting while Ron's on strike but I think FiredGuy tried to control things for a while.   Icky.

It’s not a simple issue. The truth is that reality television has writers disguised as segment producers/other titles, and they pay them shitty wages with no residuals because it is “unscripted” when that isn’t true. So I’m just fine with them using this moment to picket everything that is part of their industry that has any writing. The talent in front and behind the scenes on reality need better compensation and coverage. Generations of people in this country have suffered from the corporations holding more and more pieces of the pie from the folks working/creating it.
