First, the bad news. Despite being the highest-rated entertainment series on Monday nights and tied as the second-highest-rated entertainment series overall across broadcast television, “9-1-1,” the highest-rated broadcast drama series in Adults 18-49 (1.0 rating/8 share), has been canceled at FOX after six seasons. The good news is ABC has picked up the series and it will return for Season 7 sometime during the 2023-2024 broadcast television season. No cast changes are expected with the switch in TV networks.

Exploring the high-pressure experiences of first responders – including police officers, firefighters and dispatchers – who are thrust into the most frightening, shocking and heart-stopping situations, “9-1-1” is produced by 20th Television in association with Ryan Murphy Television and Brad Falchuk Teley-Vision. The series stars Angela Bassett as Athena Grant, Peter Krause as Bobby Nash, Jennifer Love Hewitt as Maddie Kendall, Oliver Stark as Evan “Buck” Buckley, Kenneth Choi as Howie “Chimney” Han, Aisha Hinds as Henrietta “Hen” Wilson, Ryan Guzman as Eddie Diaz, Corinne Massiah as May Grant, Marcanthonee Jon Reis as Harry Grant, and Gavin McHugh as Christopher Diaz.

“Thanks to the creative drive of [series co-creators] Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear, as well as the talented cast, ‘9-1-1’ has been one of the most defining and original dramas on network television over the last six seasons and we are honored to bring it to the esteemed group of series on ABC,” said Craig Erwich, president, Disney Television Group. “It’s a privilege to keep ‘9-1-1’ in the family with 20th Television producing, and we look forward to telling more heart-racing and uplifting stories about these beloved characters on our air.”

Alexis Martin Woodall, Angela Bassett, Peter Krause, John J. Gray, Kristen Reidel and Juan Carlos Coto also serve as executive producers.

According to Deadline, FOX decided not to renew “9-1-1” following its Season 6 finale, airing Monday, May 15 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT, which was expected after negotiations came down to the wire last year when a deal for the current season closed just an hour before the network’s 2022-2023 upfront presentation. Fans wondering what happens to spinoff “9-1-1: Lonestar” now that the parent series is leaving FOX can rest easy. The network renewed the series shortly after announcing the “9-1-1” cancellation.
