I hear you re: Kristen's sentence (whatever it was, because as you point out, she just went from being in police custody to being back in jail), but there was a whole bunch of hand-wringing around the time the women "died" and how their deaths were on Kristen. She was arrested for their deaths, and once they turned up alive and Megan's involvement was revealed, it also became known that Megan, not Kristen, had stolen/taken the orchid. They all knew she had it prior to that -- she was holding it as collateral and then it vanished and she was accused of making it disappear, right? So Kristen wasn't responsible for any of what happened, or the part that she was responsible for happened way before she was taken into custody.

I guess the real answer is that the writers don't understand it any better than we do.

Obviously, you can extort people for issues other than money.  Kristen extorted Brady by threatening his mother with death unless he abided by her demands, which is illegal regardless of her ability to actually carry through on her threat.

How Megan was able to be moved from isolation in federal detention to the general population in a local jail, and then was freed due to a plea bargain with a judge in Greece, is the real head scratcher.

To piggyback off the friendship thread that started with a Kristen/Lani comment I think in the 90's it helped Kristen had other relationships and friendships that grounded her.  Her close relationship with Billie/Jen and the fact Alice/Tom liked her helped remind us that Kristen did things out of desperation.  She also had a career in social work she was passionate about and a strong relationship with her brother Peter that felt much more real than her 40 onscreen siblings now. She wasn't an all out psycho.  She spiraled out of obsession, but she didn't start out as evil and I don't think she was truly evil even in the end.   There is nothing redeeming about Kristen now.  It's been so long since she acted like a sympathetic human you can't reverse her course now.  She's just irredeemable and there is nothing to root for there at all.

I do agree with @j swift.  Kristen wasn't asking for money, but she was forcing Brady to change custody in exchange for the 'cure' and that was a formal legal agreement.   It was at the very least blackmail.

I'm with you, @carolineg. She's not even a good mother! I like what they're doing with Rachel, but Kristen is basically manipulating this kid into being a little psycho. And this started when ED first returned -- and got worse with Haiduk -- but they keep doing this sex kitten thing with her that feels like her one note now. She's always preening and moaning and vamping. If they're going to do it, they could at least explain that it's because she found a reason to use her sexuality as a weapon or... I dunno.

Yes, the only thing Kristen ever wanted is to be a mother and she's blowing it big time. She's using her child as a weapon to keep Brady, which is slightly in character, but in the 90's I felt she actually did want a child and to be a mom.  Even if EJ/John Jr was a means to keep John, I empathized with her not being able to conceive and losing her "only" chance when she miscarried

Yeah… this nurse crap has Jamey Giddens’ untalented little fingers all over it. Hopefully he’s gone for good and doesn’t use the strike as an excuse to come back.

One episode and she’s already kidnapping Abe? No buildup? Not even a scene with Paulina to at least try to explain why she’s doing this?

I don’t understand it. Ron’s had some of the best people in the business working for him on Days and yet he continues to accept pitches from the worst writer Days has ever had. I know asskissing feels good, but come on.

And don’t even get me started on how Colin, the guy who just fell off a roof was able to overpower that cop.

The only thing that made this episode somewhat watchable was Eric/Sloan and Nicole/Anna, even though poor Jessica Serfaty still needs acting lessons.

Hopefully, tomorrow will be better. And will have been worked on by writers with actual talent.

I enjoy the Nicole and Anna pseudo-maternal relationship.  But, it is odd if you think about that she's Carrie's mother, and Sami's step-mother, and she threw Nicole under the bus during the kidnapping story (semi-literally).  I don't recall a moment when they reconciled their past.  So, it is a bit left field, but the actors are so charismatic that they make it work.

Good lord. The romantic pairings or potential romantic pairings on this show seem to be going around like musical chairs these days.

Umm, I don't have much to say I don't think. I'm glad the show can be able to tell good stories like secret pregnancies. Because let's face it - if Nicole's pregnancy isn't enough to keep you intrigued twice a week, at least you have Sarah's pregnancy to fall back on to fill on the days where Nicole's not on, you know?

I don't know what Stacey was talking when she told Megan they were going to look at the bedroom suites inside the Dimera mansion. I don't see any significant differences in the bedroom sizes as they all look the same to me.

Why Chloe is working in journalism is dumb. She like bitched about how she's an opera major and opera gigs in the town of Salem are slim to none. Doesn't mean she can't work for Giggle Grams.

@AbcNbc247I thought you might be exaggerating, but this Nurse popped up out of nowhere.  She couldn't have had a weeks worth of scenes so we could get to know her?  Why would she want old man Abe?  Why does she look like Paulina?  Is this going to be the obvious Misery rip off I think it is?  This is absolutely ridiculous.

I thought today was overall pretty good.  The actress that plays Talia does the strangest thing with her one eyebrow when she's emotional.  It's sort of like Drake's eyebrow, but more pronounced.  I can't focus on anything else when she talks now.

I am surprised they had Sloan come clean so quickly.  It takes a lot of drama out of the situation, but it's clear the show is trying to rehab Sloan's entire character.

That whole storyline and the fact that it’s going to be rushed killed the whole episode for me.

And yeah, I’ve noticed that thing that Talia does with her eyebrows too

That Nurse (did we get her name? I can't remember if she told Colin) had 2 scenes with Colin and then went straight to kidnapping Abe.  This has to be one of the fastest moving things ever to happen even on Days.  At least have this woman lurk in the background for an episode.

I swear I won't ever be able to listen to Talia again.  I am completely fascinated by the range of movement in her eyebrows now  That being said, she sounded like an idiot today.  Colin bought her little gifts and was sometimes sweet to her?  Girl, get out....

    • Sharina?  @alwaysAMC I am glad you've kept writing about the Brent story all the way through. I think that Beaty may have had to briefly leave again, rather than scenes being aired out of sequence, but I'm not sure.  You are right that the reveals of Brent's various reasons for being what he was bog down the end of the story a bit, although based on what is to come in 1996 I still kind of wish Beaty had stayed another year.  I'd forgotten J and Michelle were tied to the end of the story. This J is generally just gross. I don't really remember much of anyone caring about Nadine dying outside of her family. The worst part was Frank just giving a rose and saying it was from Harley, which made me very mad at the time. I am not sure if Beth Ehlers was asked to return and declined. Luckily this is addressed when she does return.   I felt like it was one of those stories that was done via mandate - trying to keep the ratings gains they had, via more location shoots, more adventures, more secrets, etc. Tony, Annabelle and Jim were thrown in as they were meant to be important to the show at the time.
    • April 28: Leslie tells Eva "I know all about the Articulettes. Honey, please. I lost my virginity with Anita playing in the background, baby." Who knows what she meant by that.  I had assumed that it meant that the music was playing on a device in the background, and not live, but who knows. Leslie has spun so many tales.
    • I enjoyed Sally's story from her engagement to Peter all the way through to right before Majorca, so I would have a hard time giving that up for the sake of trying to make Amanda and Sam theoretically better. I thought the escalation of Sally's troubles from Donna's interference, secret love child, engagement to David for the wrong reasons, falling for Catlin, jilting David, trying to take Kevin from David leading to David's murder and Catlin's absolutely stupid confession to take the blame for her, and then Catlin's trial and aftermath all kept the story moving in directions you wouldn't necessarily expect but all made sense.  Full disclosure: I don't really care for location shoots on soaps where most of the time outdoor scenes are clearly in studio. It feels weird to see the cast in natural light under real trees and sometimes the destination doesn't make any sense. And although obviously it was good to get a resolution to the murder mystery and get Catlin off death row (probably too harsh a sentence for the crime), the motive and the criminal were not very satisfying. Even though she had started dating Peter, Emily Benson still had minor character written all over her. But also the transition into a lower key daily life, the introduction of Brittany and the recasting of Sally were all less effective. Catlin was limited to occasional private detection work and being protective of Brittany, but he didn't have much else to do once Blaine and Larry had left. (He should at least have been dealing with raising Kevin but Kevin and Liz had also been written out. He could have interacted with Donna more over Brittany but his fling with Donna was mostly ignored once Sally was gone.)
    • This. I'm also reminded of something from the old Cinema de Merde website, something I've tried to carry with me. "(paraphrased) We will not let our dislike for a movie impede our efforts to engage with it."
    • I just edited a DAYS episode 8-27-90 with Eve, Nick, Julie, John, Izzy, Victor, Bo, Carly, some young guy named Chad, Johnny Corelli, business men/thugs from a movie that is going to be made & from a construction company, little kid friend of ShawnD's, ShawnD although he is at the bottom of a long narrow hole & is either asleep or unconscious. Full closing credits with voiceover: Next on Another World: Vicky, posing as Marley, will she be able to fool Jamie? Then, on Santa Barbara something about Mack & Gretchen, whoever they are.
    • It's a sweet scene. I'm requesting Love of Life, please.
    • Paul, as for me, in general I am VERY interested in reading these. So, from my POV, you could post one every week & I would be all smiles. As for what shows I would be interested in: everything but Valiant Lady, Portia/Life, 5 Daughters, Another Life, that's it.
    • I have read numerous places on line that Leslie/Dana may somehow be connected to one of Anita's old band mates that she obviously has issues with.  They were both from Chicago and Leslie/Dana stated she gave birth to Eva there.  If this is true it could add another dimension to this storyline.
    • Not only that, but Tony, Annabelle, and Jim had zero skin in this game. The Fishing Trip story had a huge impact on the Reardons and Annabelle because it was about THEIR relatives and how what happened to them shaped their own lives. People directly and indirectly affected by this--i.e. Alan, Amanda, Philip, and even Lujack--weren't involved in this at all, either because they were off the canvas or involved in other stuff. I mostly admire Long's talent for using the past to enhance her stories in the present, but this one was a huge turkey. We saw Brandon old and decrepit dying on screen. Even if we were able to suspend disbelief, why wouldn't he have wanted revenge on Lucille, who tried to kill him? If he wanted to go live with his Barbados squeeze, who would have cared about that by then? In the end, it had little to no impact on the larger story because they were too chicken to bring in that branch of the Spauldings into the main story (until later).  Just a really bad storyline that mainly existed to stretch out the GL stints of the actors who played Tony, Annabelle, and Jim.
    • Agree to disagree as to Lois's return. Moving from the specific to the general, IMO, successful: Tracy, Lois, Lulu so far & Lucas so far. Questionable: Lucky. But I do not believe that having a romantic partner at all times is the be all & end all of things.  Reminder about how we got from there to here with Rena: Everything was a part of the great unknown, whether they'd like her or vice versa, so they by intent signed a 30 episode deal. Before they even got to the end of those 30 episodes they knew they really liked each other a lot & so they with mutual satisfaction (we think) agreed upon a handshake open-ended deal, which as far as anyone knows is how it still stands. What is good about that? Neither side has YET wanted it to end. What's bad about that? Maybe it is a little weird.  Now, it seems to me that Lois is not going to have time for anything or anyone at all EXCEPT the fallout over the GIO reveal for the upcoming future days & weeks & I do think she is going to take the brunt of a LOT of people's anger. In a way that has begun this week with Tracy being SO UGLY to her.  About Jason & romance. They're not writing any. If I understand what he's said from that podcast they never had any intention with either Anna or Sasha. Also, if they had wanted to write either of those, he would've been against it, although he realizes it's not up to him. (Finola has expressed same at fan events, etc.) (Others who have similarly stated their "preferences": Sonny does not want to be with Carly. Carly does not want to be with Sonny. So, these preferences Jason, Anna, Sonny, Carly, they all work out & none of them is having the show want those pairings either, so, again, works out.  About these writers & romantic couples, they spent a year blowing up every couple that existed. Now a few months has gone by & they have YET to create even one new couple. The only thing that has come close is Lucky & Liz.
