Peacock has renewed “Days of our Lives” for two additional seasons, keeping the daytime drama series in production through a historic 60th anniversary season.

According to the service, since the show’s move last September to become the only streaming exclusive daily serial in the United States, “Days of our Lives” has been a consistent top 10 title on Peacock, making the renewal a no-brainer for the Corday Productions produced series in association with Sony Pictures Television.

In November, Soap Opera Network had heard rumblings of a renewal being on the horizon, with another two-year deal likely. This has now been confirmed with today’s announcement. The previous deal, announced in May 2021, gave the show its first multi-year pickup in over a decade.

Ken Corday is the show’s executive producer, with Albert Alarr continuing as co-executive producer. Ron Carlivati continues to serve as the show’s head writer.

Since its launch on November 8, 1965, “Days of our Lives” has received 61 Daytime Emmy Awards, including its most recent win in 2022 for Outstanding Writing for a Daytime Drama. To date, the show has received 392 Daytime Emmy nominations, multiple People’s Choice Awards, GLAAD Media Awards and Prism Awards.

This is not surprising to me. Soaps never get the credit, but the surge in subscribers came after Days was added. People like to say soaps are too expensive for streaming, but Days is likely one of the cheapest shows on Peacock and still, they get year round episodes for the same or less than they spend on an 8-10 episode limited series.

I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if they lean into soaps more.

Interesting that they seem to be keeping the daily / ~40 minute format. I still think DAYS (and all daytime soaps really) could benefit from cutting back.

I agree with you, but I think there's a huge value for Peacock in having a show that compels people to reliably open the app every single weekday.

Kudos to DAYS and Ken Corday for always defying the odds.  People who are upset with this renewal can go take a seat somewhere else.

I think they greatly benefited from the relative weakness of the rest of Peacock’s slate. But good for them. Soap fans are loyal. I’m sure the lead-up to the Bo/Hope stuff has helped. They do desperately need a new head writer. RC is burned out.

I don't think folks are upset about soaps' being renewed; I see viewers desperately advocating for better product to warrant the shows' continued existence, and to make soaps worthwhile and enjoyable to watch again.

I'm know I am a curmudgeon about quality, LOL, but to me, the last time DAYS was well written was under Pat Falken Smith in 1982.

I've been more than patient!

I agree - it's more that I would've liked to see it scaled back to half an hour tbh - I guess having watched a lot of vintage soaps during the past few years have made me realise that it's a much better format for soaps, but I guess it's a "if it ain't broke" mentality.

    • I guess it depends on your device.  I can watch CW shows via their website on my Windows PC.
    • Ooooo A Liam episode? I'll watch it later today. They sure are churning the daily episodes out early.

    • Welcome back, Shawn Douglas! It's been a while. It really is too bad that the writers don't really have an interest in the character because there are still a lot of ways that he can be used effectively on the canvas. He should have been a part of the 60th anniversary celebrations as well. If anything, just to represent Bo and Hope. And I'd much rather see Jada paired with him than possibly with Theo. But I enjoyed him getting caught up with Belle, and comforting her. I'm sure they'll find their way back to each other at some point but I do like them as divorced friends. I just hope we see it play out onscreen. Belle being a dick about Sami again was unnecessary though. And we finally saw Liam again!  I'm curious to see how this storyline is going to play out, and who's going to be weaved into it. He and Abe do work well together too. And we learned that he has a kid. Hopefully, we'll learn more about his character in the future. But I'm not really sure about Johnny and Chanel suddenly having problems with raising Trey. They've wanted a baby for so long, so I don't understand why this is even an issue. They should know by now what it's like to raise a baby. But I did enjoy Johnny's scenes with EJ, and that Johnny still hasn't refused to forgive him. This storyline was/is very clunky, but having the two of them be at odds is the right decision. There's so much story potential that can be drawn from that. As for Chad... there was no time for us to see his reunion with Will, but there's time for us to see him talking BS with Leo? I don't get it. And I don't get all this random dating app stuff either. Leo and Javi were boring af too. If we're forced to endure them, can they at least have some real conflict? The two of them losing the baby was the perfect opportunity for it.

    • I enjoy BF better on Days than on YR.   Chad is greater than Cane, in my opinion.
    • Ick! Seeing MS and BF making out as the characters onscreen was just ewwww.
    • The SON board.
