Quoting the Decider summary of the SOD interview ...
Sofer said her contract expired in May, claiming she didn’t hear from anyone until just before her last week of shooting ahead of the July hiatus. According to the actress, they said they didn’t know what was going on with her character, but asked that she stay on a “recurring basis” until they figure it out.

“I just felt like if my decision wasn’t set at that point, that kind of made it clear, that they just didn’t know what to do with Quinn, and I felt like I deserved more than just sitting around until they figured it out,” she told the outlet. “Especially at the end of the whole ‘Quarter’ story; there was still so much to do, you know. I still wasn’t divorced from Eric [John McCook], and Donna [Jennifer Gareis] was still in the mix of that, and so I just felt like it was time to go.”

They were absolutely teased before, several months ago for about one and a half episodes and that was it. If it weren’t for this reprise, I would’ve categorized it with Thomas’ crush on Paris which lasted for a handful of episodes. These things don’t make it to the history books. Makes me wonder about the cancelled classic soaps and how many forgotten little story points there have been.

I watched the last three episodes for Katie and Carter and I was impressed. It's a shame they took so many years to start writing for Carter and he's had chemistry with Katie for YEARS. If he was white, you can't tell me this wouldn't have happened sooner. I just worry because we know Heather Tom doesn't really act much, so I don't know how much they'll commit to it. Maybe that's why they're doing it. It can give Carter a C story with limited screentime and they can just blame that on Tom's availability.

I could get on board with Carter & Katie.  Carter brings out the fun side of Katie, I thought their flirtation was cute.  I thought they had chemistry before, I still do.  Then again I think LSV could drum up chemistry with a doorknob, he is just a charismatic actor.  Good point above if Heather Tom's availability is limited though...

BTW I thought HTom looked amazing in that black dress...Got leg?!

Yeah not feeling it, Katie's too bland and boring to be with a guy like Carter, he needs a woman with fire like Quinn

They chem tested them last year and it was clearly a bust cause it went nowhere lol

So fake Dollar Bill sees Brooke as an object and is clearly threatened by Deacon or he wouldn't be marking his territory lol, he's so intolerable

Katie's bland and boring, but Carter's no better, honestly.

If he needs a fire, it's because he's SOOOOO laid back and mellow and smooth ALL THE TIME. Yeah, LSV is gorgeous and sexy as hell, and I've seen some decent acting from him, but as written, Carter is boring and ridiculous.

He gets over women he's "in love with" in a flash -- even as he talks about how much they meant to him. Then it's one kiss, and the guy is head-over-heels AGAIN. This insta-romance with Katie would be hilarious if it weren't so dumb.

I want Carter to be a real person, not whatever this is that we're getting. As written, he's a joke. And Katie? I have NO expectation that we'll see her enough to make this "relationship" matter.

    • I will defend Dante.  People already suspect he may be a bit unstable from time to time (from his time as a prisoner).  And, he's taking care of other people's kids from time to time.  So, he has reason to be cautious with those in his care.
    • Josh continues to try and milk Abbott/Newman rivalry. First it was Billy/Victoria, then Kyle/Summer, then Noah/Allie (that worked out well) and now Kyle/Claire. Do we have any inkling when Billy Flynn will arrive and who he will play? I'm sure Cole's illness will mostly play offscreen. What's in store for Nick and Sharon? Is it time to put them back together? I can't see any other romantic options. Nick has no children on the canvas to play off, as Christian is never seen. Sharon has only Mariah onscreen.
    • I would appreciate (if they're not coming), for future scripts to refer to them by their iconic hairdos.  For example, if Hope needs to call Chelsea because Bo has Sepsis, I'd like Shawn-D to say, "My Mom called Chelsea (the one with the sassy short black hair) for an update." Also, new rule, if Melanie does return, she needs to dye her hair back to red.  I googled who she was five times during Victor's funeral.

    • Broderick, thank you for all of the info [I edited for space]. I am so grateful for everyone filling in the blanks for me. I suspected the Nora/Eliot scene was very important and it was setting something up but I didn't know what. Can't wait to see it play out. The two actors had such a great back and forth. I should have made the Paige/Patty Hearst connection. I thought Paige was in love with Brian from the first episode I watched but it seemed as if they were brother and sister. Steve kept being affectionate with her so I assumed he was the love interest. Then she was affectionate with someone else and well..she's a very busy woman. I can't wait to see Frances Fisher show up. (I'm trying to be vague because I don't know what would be a spoiler in this storyline) Now it makes sense why Draper would be upset. I didn't get the whole background of why he didn't go to NY. I'm a sucker for good acting, so I might still side with April and Margo, if the writers don't give Draper more to do besides yelling.  He had more chemistry with Logan, but I know that's not happening.  Something else I noticed: the show really takes care with even the smallest parts. The acting is superb. Too often, I noticed on older soaps they don't take care with the recurring or day players (Ryan's Hope was so bad with this that I couldn't make it through some episodes). It's only been six episodes, but so far, the casting department was spot on.
    • I thought Dante was overreacting.  Gio made some mistakes but he's young and he tried.  It's not like he dragged two 14 years to a party and made them get blackout drunk.  Dante can have the initial upset reaction, but to go on and on was a bit much.
    • His (adoptive) nieces.  Chelsea and Stephanie.  I think Abby was involved too, but I am not sure if they are related lol.
    • That was such a dark story. I never liked Swamp girl after that. And then the dating your cousin thing. I think wasn’t Max in a triangle with two of his cousins?
    • Thank you, @j swift.  I'm probably more sympathetic to Draper Scott than most audience members are -- even though I'm absolutely CRAZY about Ann Williams & her bizarre Margo Huntington character

The more I watch these episodes -- and I've watched several of them a zillion times, I'm ashamed to admit -- you realize there's a WHOLE lot of passive-aggressive hostility brewing inside Margo Huntington about Draper.  She wants to take April AWAY from him and recreate the childhood that she never got to experience with April, because of the adoption 25 years ago.  Draper has sense enough to realize how heartless and vindictive Margo really is about other people's lives and their feelings, but he bites his tongue rather than poison his wife's mind about how horrible her mother really is.  And I admire him for that.  He's a sweet boy.
    • Unfortunately, as the 90s wore on, Felicia started wearing as many gray and neutral tones as Giorgio Armani and Donna Karan could produce, and the shoulder pads deflated to a drop sleeve.
    • I think Dante is reacting how most parents would react.
