Missed Couple Pairing Opportunities

I have never heard anyone say that.  With the first actress to play Lexie?  Because John was John by the time Renee Jones took over.  Interesting idea.

I am probably crazy, but I swear I thought for a minute they might pair Abe/Marlena up between Roman/RoJohn after Richard Cates died.  That's probably not true, but they were pretty close there for a bit.

I thought it might have worked.  Probably too controversial to pair their lead heroine in an interracial relationship at the time, but I always thought JR/DH worked well together.   But after the Richard Cates pairing and pre-Drake the show was kind of testing Marlena with a few guys that went nowhere.  I swear though after Abe's brother died and Richard was killed Abe/Marlena were close for a minute.

They did not go all the way with Kayla/Marcus.  I believe Marcus was in love with her, but she thought it was too soon after Steve's death and then the show went with Shane/Kayla.  That reeked of network interference

Kayla & Marcus would've worked a lot better. The two had chemistry. Both Marcus and Shane started to show an interest in a recently widowed Kayla. Around the same time. Poor Marcus never caught a break. First Faith then Kayla.

Marcus really got the shaft his entire run.  For someone who was on the show for 7 years he didn't do much of anything.  He had chemistry with a few women on the show, but the pairings seem to be squashed because they were white.  Even though I don't hate Shane/Kayla, it's way more offensive than Marcus/Kayla IMO.

GL:

Alan-Michael and Gilly

Danny and Cassie (long term romance)

Ben Reade and Marah: I would've drawn this out longer for the simple fact of bringing back Kyle Sampson.

Shayne Lewis and Lizzie Spaulding: Casting aside, I like the idea of these two on paper, and them having a dysfunctional toxic relationship similar to Josh and Reva, and of course their families having never gotten along, playing a huge factor in the chaos of their relationship.

Not just on the show, though.  I still recall when he co-hosted part of the Daytime Emmys with Susan Lucci and thinking, "Damn, those two are hot together!".

I think Drake is just someone who has a natural charisma and likeability.  Clearly he's nothing special as an actor, but he's a very good scene partner for men and women.  He's good looking and in good shape enough for the ladies to like him, but he also seems like someone you could have a beer with.  He just seems like a nice guy and I don't think I have ever heard anyone say a bad word about him, so I get the impression people just like working with him and it shows on screen.

    • Thanks. I'm glad we have some fan memories of these years as this is such a typically snide take on the genre. It's also poorly written and reminds me a great deal of the tedious "snark" recaps that became popular in the '90s. The end in particular. The 1979/80 stuff I have seen is much more polished than a number of soaps at the time. It was very easy to watch and not too bogged down in past story.  Margo is played by Ann Williams, who was on what seemed like every soap. I think she said Margo was her favorite role.  These episodes aren't consecutive, but if you ever have time, they are worth a watch. They are bits and pieces from January and April of 1979 - April in and out of prison, her past calling to her via her psychic powers (and the suicide of Miles' wife Denise, who had murder framing in mind). April 1979 has the end of Winter Austen (such a fantastic soap name).  I don't want to drop a ton of links but you can find playlists on Youtube.
    • And the rating 'wars' continue...hehe.
    • Well, it was fun while it lasted for Rebecca Herbst. Le sigh.
    • I am wholeheartedly enjoying this show. I just haven't been able to post as much as I used to. But yes, this episode needs to be submitted for the EMMYs and there needs to be wins. I better NOT see Y&R, DAYS, or B&B winning in categories over BTG. I feel like the only show that is giving BTG an ounce of competition this season is GH.
    • I never thought the day would come, but too much MM for me.
    • I think it may be that the character was brought in for a specific purpose and then became popular with viewers, and the show didn't know how to respond.  The choice to pivot away from Simon/India may show that you are right and they didn't care for her...although pairing them up may be another sign they didn't care for her. I don't connect well with this period but it does make me happy seeing some of these characters before the great purge and some of the surprises - I'd forgotten the wonderful Maureen O'Sullivan popped up to be bumped off. So typical of soaps by this point, but it doesn't grate as much as later on when Y&R would bring on any random cast member from Small Wonder. I'm also amazed at this time at just how much money the show must have had. The costumes for the Founder's celebration in summer 1984, or whatever it was, looked gorgeous.
    • Which officially started to feel that way today with them hearing each other out as they confronted each other at the same time.    Same. He was even catching himself when he was about to go overboard or do those tics that people don't seem to like. He failed a bit at the end, but he carried. It makes me think about a month back when it was discussed that the actor was better in other things he's been in. And I questioned then if that meant that he was playing Martin more intentionally. I questioned that briefly again today because he was giving.
    • I really like the actress who plays Margo. Don't know  her name. I'm so hesitant to google anyone because I don't want to know the length they were on the show. I've watched two episodes and I have to say that the show does not feel as dated as other shows. I tried to watch Ryan's Hope a few weeks back and some of the acting was a bit rough. EON is a lot more natural which amuses me considering it's a mystery/thriller show.
