All: Best scenes with mothers and children

It is Mother's Day, so I thought this would be a good topic. One of the best for me is when Dru confronts her mother on Y&R, but I cannot find a clip of that. In primetime, Abby and Olivia's scenes when Olivia was a drugs were top notch.

If anyone has it, I'd love to see the Mother's Day brunch from Y&R May 10, 2004 where Kay gets drunk after arguing with Jill and then Father Todd (her real life son Corbin Bernson) calms her down.

Here's the clip of Dru and Lillie Bell. Definitely one of the realest mother/daughter scenes on daytime. How VR didn't win an Emmy for this, I'll never understand....

This scene between Sierra and Lucinda is pretty funny and shows the warped relationship that Lucinda often had with her daughters. When Lucinda discovers that her daughter Sierra is getting a divorce from her husband, Lucinda shows up at the attorney's office to try to stop Sierra. This scene kind of made me laugh, the way it unfolded and the twisted revelation that unfolds and Sierra's response.

EDT: This is actually a sequence rather than just one scene, because it is separated by a commercial break and mid-show bumper. Ot is worth it to watch the rest that follows the break. Just fast-forward through the ads, if you like. Bonus: Julianne Moore pops up at the end of the sequence.

One of THE best scenes between Holly and Blake from Guiding Light. Maureen Garrett is simply flawless and its an embarrassment how GL neglected her in its final years along with this interesting dynamic.

There’s many parts of this confirmation online but this one particularly stands out to me.

Bert really needed her ass kicked for this one, but it's classic soap. Real, raw, low-key a trainwreck because how in the world can this woman defend her philandering husband who has shat on her so many times, but extremely human. Poor hyperemotional Ed is trying to uphold what he's always been taught is right, but he's panicking in the face of that very bastion of righteousness degrading the morals that she herself had taught him. Flawless soap.

Y&R: I think the 1975 scenes of the Brooks sisters encouraging their mother Jennifer to go through with the mastectomy.

Dallas: When Miss Ellie has to put up Southfork to cover J.R.'s butt in an oil deal. She tells him she doesn't know if she can forgive him after she signs the papers and walks out of his office with Jock.

Knots Landing: Val break down and tells Lillie Mae she was the reason she lost her baby (Lucy) because she turned her away the night she was running from J.R's cronies. Also when Karen confronts Diana at Gary's ranch which ends with Eric bitch slapping her. Abby smirks and then see's Olivia watching her with disgust.

This was so good...like prime time good..say what you will about JFP, the combo of her and this set of writers made GL the best I believe it ever was. Who had ever heard a soap mom, who wasn't an outright villain..tell their kid they didn't love them? I always liked LK okay as a more gentle older Blake, but I would have loved to see SS play this out, and it wouldn't have been the sighs and softness of this Blake.

    • I really have no problem with Kai as a character or with the actor. The problem is putting together two very nice people -- Kai and Trina. Neither of them has a bad side, neither of them has a devil on the shoulder, neither of them is impulsive. I think that's a problem in a soap relationship. Yeah, I agree. All this freaking out might make sense if Lulu wanted to do a tabloid expose on BLQ's LOVE CHILD. We have no indication that's the case.
    • So Sonni would have somebody to talk to who she wasn't conspiring with (Will or Alan)? Alex kept telling Sonni how important her friends were...when she had virtually no friends. Instead they created loyal servants like Jane and Vera to give Alex people to play off of. They did that with Iris on AW, but Vivien was mostly there for comic relief Alex keeping Marah's paternity a secret was absurd. But I still love the scene between Alex and Alan where he convinces her by reminding her how they protected each other from their abusive father. Chris and Bev ATE that scene. Unfortunately, that took place only a few months before he exited the show...always thought they could have built on that, explored more how being Brandon's children screwed them both up. Maybe even used it as an explanation for the way their relationship could constantly swing from hatred to love. Instead of it being merely dictated by the plot.
    • The first one is Cass Winthrop dressed as Krystle Lake on Another World (not from his original creation of the character to hide from the loan shark Tony the Tuna, but at a romance convention trying to find out what had happened to Felicia who was missing). The second one is also Another World, Jake McKinnon as Doris although I don't recall what his purpose was.
    • I know there was one brief scene in the summer of 1989 where Lillian did mention Calla.. but in relation to her past relationship to Ross and it was to Roger while he was a patient at Cedars.  I think he was trying to pump her for information on Ross.. and for some reason, Calla's name came up.   I could see perhaps Beth mentioning that her mother Lillian was visiting Calla.. but not exactly giving any sort of details as to the going ons in Calla's life off screen.
    • Mac Scorpio and Kevin Collins, GH

    • They're neither great nor terrible AFAIK, but it is more a question of the streaming numbers in this day and age vs. actual TV airings. The Chibnall era reminded me much more of the crisis years, but I do think it's a very real possibility now as well due to the streaming bubble collapse affecting the show and its prospects.
    • ANYTHING to get her off the screen..she COULD have been interesting if she and Van had a few face offs..(there was a mild one of her going back to work...but I wanted something meatier "Bitch, I am Vanessa Chamberlain and I don't take advice from someone who followed the..career path you did!" I did like Alex's outright disdain for her.
    • Thanks @Vee for the commentary.    I haven’t even watched this season yet after  I couldn’t get past the couple episodes last season…like it was too Disneyified for my taste, although I did think it was a least better than the Chibnall era (but so is a lot of things). I’ll probably go back and binge it now. Hoping this season ends on a high note. I did read the ratings are terrible. As it stands I’m beginning to feel like what long time DW fans felt with S26 in 1989.
    • Yes, they are all on contract. Next.
