Members soapfave06
This would have been the Billy Douglas climax for OLTL? I wasn’t expecting a massive ratings increase for a story climax but almost seems the ratings hurt from its tale. OLTL definitely seems to be the soap that could, they didn’t score well in the HHs but we were surprisingly high in the demos and JFP seemed to do more harm than good. Also seems the pit story didn’t do much for DAYS Edited May 10, 2023 by soapfave06
Webmaster Errol Posted May 10, 2023 Webmaster Share Posted May 10, 2023 This era wasn't JFP. She didn't start until 1997. Because OLTL was doing so well, particularly in those demos, as you said, she got the gig at GH.

Members soapfave06
You’re right! I was looking at too many years and confusing myself lol It looked like the only time OLTL did well in the HH under JFP was the Nora/Bo/Lindsay climax and none of the other increases lasted, whereas other soaps would still hit big strides for plot climaxes in the late 90s.
Webmaster Errol Posted May 10, 2023 Webmaster Share Posted May 10, 2023 The best ratings I believe JFP’s OLTL got was the Georgie Phillips storyline. Those demos, IIRC, were so good the show was topping GH consistently. Again, that’s why she got the GH gig. The next time OLTL started doing that again was ironically when it got canceled under Ron, which is why despite canceling the show itself the network extended the contracts of Ron and Frank which later led to them both getting GH.
Members Khan
That was also the last time I, as a lifelong OLTL viewer, felt I was invested in the show.

Members Khan
Yes, @Vee, I remember the discussion we had about the Georgie Phillips murder plot, lol. What can I say? The story had so many problems, but dammit if it didn't hold my interest.
Members Vee
It held mine too! It got me back to the show. I would simply argue early Carlivati was far better, lol.

Members Franko
Bumping this thread, which will likely become pretty active in a couple weeks from now. I was also thinking about how fall 1991 should be significant. That was when not one, but four, ultimately long-running syndicated weekday talk shows joined a field that already included Phil, Sally, Oprah, Geraldo, Regis & Kathie Lee and Joan Rivers. The newcomers were Montel, Maury, Jenny and Jerry.
Members JAS0N47
1994-1995 PREEEMPTIONS DATA... I was asked about the 1994-1995 preemptions data, so to get the ball rolling on when soaps were preempted for the OJ Simpson trial, I will be posting the full & partial preemptions from 1994-1995 for all soaps here. When I have more time I can check on what the "rated" preemption reasons were, but these years will not have any "unrated" (sustaining) program titles available (but, of course, any of those would be for special reports, so when that happens, I will just list those as "Unrated Special Report"). Notes: Blank lines are full preemptions; Lines with data are breakouts/partial preemptions. PBO = Portion is a breakout (these portions of the episode are not counted towards the weekly/yearly averages).
