What do you guys think was the cultural background to developing a character like Cassandra? Did she seem to taken right out of a Hitchcock movie? Or a '30s noir film? I've often read comments that Classic Y&R felt like reading a novel and it's obvious it was heavily influenced by Old Hollywood - especially considering Bill Bell grew up as a writer in that exact era, I think.

Brenda said she changed the way she played Jill because the writing for Jill had changed in her years away, that Jill had become a bitch, and so on. I think she still managed to have some restraint until around the time Jill and John divorced and Jill was starting over - then she started going hogwild with the turbans and so on.

I was just going to mention this. YR and BB have been preempted regularly because of these press conferences. Last week was probably the best overall in terms of not preempting the soaps on CBS in the past few weeks.

I thought when CBS2 preempted their soaps, they would be shown on WLNY. I finally have WLNY after all these years and I just checked and they're not airing YR. I'm assuming CBS2 no longer has a deal with WLNY to air their schedule when there are preemptions. I haven't really watched CBS soaps live this regularly in a while so I was going based on what would occur in the past.

Sad I'm probably going to miss all these older episodes, because CBS hasn't even put up Friday's episode online or on the streaming platform.

Looks like NBC is doing a better job at respecting DAYS in the NYC area because it's on my local affiliate.

Bell liked to tell noir stories and Gothic mysteries when he could. From what some here have said, Nina Arvesen's performance captivated him and he wrote and wrote for her (I think he may have changed plans that would have had her as her husband's killer). Bell loved writing for complicated heroines and anti-heroines. He certainly wasn't flawless, by any means, but I'd say he and Henry Slesar are the two male writers in daytime who most knew how to write for women and knew how to make them such fascinating characters. It's never been the same after he had to retire - characters like Ashley were quickly gutted like fish.

Oh I didn't know they were doing this. Which episode will it be? (something about VIctor presumably) Hopefully these will be put somewhere. I will have to remember to set it up and hope nothing is cut in.

Totally the same ! I was 5-6 when it aired in France and I was fascinated with Cassandra. And George’s niece, Brittany too. They were so « film noir » vibes. Guess I was already much gay

October 1981 I think ! It will probably include Victor taking care of Nikki after their first encounter. We hope for some Vanessa planning her death to frame Lorie !

Oh that will be good - I know they will junk things for time but I am hoping we'll get some classic material outside of Victor and Nikki. Lorie, Vanessa, maybe Paul if this is still when he was in his white trash period (or was he already a good guy by 1981...), maybe some Deborah Adair Jill...and Liz. I'd be so happy to see Liz.

    • "On a shallow note" Martin gets all the booty from his Daddy, Ted is just as stacked as his son, LOL! I had to say it.
    • Lol! If Kat is going to do one thing, it's going to be give shade.   And of course, the Duprees would get into formation and team up. Sadly, I don't think they have anything on Silk Press Sheila.    Poor Nicole.   But loving it. I know I'm invested besides I'm seriously side-eying Vanessa/Doug cuz I want to get to the meat. And I love that every single beat is getting played.    Oooo Nosy Nurse!!!   OOOOHHHH so Silk Press Sheila and Nicole were preggers at the same time. And HA!!! The lawyer WAS Bill!  The acting is superb. Silk Press Sheila even toyed with Martin a little bit.   Ooooomg! Eva revealed.   Wait! Is it food posioning for Vanessa or is she with child?
    • Well, if you add that one caveat, oddly, it disqualifies Renee. Because she is one person who was both the planner (if you will) and also the "evil" revealer. Weird but that is THE difference.  And it's the only difference. But, sure, I think those words make it unique. THE REVEALER CONVINCES HER TARGET TO HOST THE EVENT. Right?  Well, if we nitpick The Revealer used her secret agent to convince their target to do this shindig. Yes. That's it. Because Leslie/Sheila/Sherry/Dana/Leslie/Mom didn't do it by herself. She HAD to have Eva doing her part.  Okay, run with that.  And, why not discuss it here? It's topical.
    • Hahaha!!! Not Naomi being sure Chelesa ain't filming this time!!!   At last! Kat is proven right!!!   And hey, Nicole's Doctor friend, hey!!!   So far...this is giving.
    • Leslie having the nerve to show up at the Dupree House was pure insanity. Bill being revealed to be more ruthless than anyone would have thought was a good development. I have to imagine that will change Dani's view of wanting him back. The whole reveal was well done and Trisha Mann-Grant owned those scenes. That was most definitely material for an Emmy submission reel.
    • I agree, all the Guys Tux were nice. I like how they differ from each other and all stylish in a way. Awe, same. Can not believe I actually have enjoying a current daytime soap. Rewatching these episodes over the weekend as a jump back into Ryan's Hope and Santa Barbara. Agreed! Exciting times.

And it was pretty dope we didn't know that tidbit before the reveal.
    • yes I thought of the Renee party... But this is different because I'm talking specifically about the revealer convincing someone else to throw the party.  And the someone else complies, having no idea what the revealer plans. I'm wondering if Michele Val Jean did a first with BTG in 2025. But the BTG thread is already so busy -- that I thought it important to *NOT* clog it up with discussing this, so I brought the question here instead. That way, if other reveals come up in conversation, it's not a problem on this "general retro soap" thread.
    • Well, good that they showed Vanessa though I wish she was there.   Lol. And here comes Naomi. AND an explanation from Jacob.

She is diabolical! Remember in this scene she offered Martin a brownie which seemed so random? In this episode its revealed that when he was a kid, Ted used to bring him to a restaurant where the waitress would give him brownies....that waitress was Leslie. She was playing games and trying to jog his childhood memory
