Today I was witness to an exchange between my 65ish neighbor, who recently returned from her annual 4-month visit to her hometown in Croatia, and her married daughter. The daughter is a teacher here in NYC who is currently in the early part of a year-long maternity leave. There's a mandate here that public school staff must get vaccinated. So the mother began yelling that the vaccine is dangerous, she doesn't want her daughter to get it, etc. Lots of yelling. The daughter's husband left, saying something like "go ahead and be a liberal wussy (substitute a p) and bend over."

Shortly after, the neighbor on the other side of me (who is a different brand of crazy but that's a whole other litany of stories), yells a greeting across my yard to them and the mother mentions that they were yelling about the vaccine. Well, he's in the funeral business and he got his vaccine back in December. So she tells him that she believes it's all bs, that "they're trying to kill us all by giving us COVID in the vaccine." She went on to say that her sister and cousin got the vaccine and both got COVID whereas she got neither. He mentioned that his vaccinated mother (who's in her 70s) got COVID (upon which the neighbor thought she had made a point to him) but he said he believed his mother would be dead now without it. They debated a bit more about it, he made a comment to her to then at least build up her immune system and always wear a mask (not exactly advice he totally follows himself but hey, in this case, he tried). Later on, I heard her say that people are so stupid. Meanwhile, yesterday I streamed my mother's church mass for her and there's the neighbor, maskless amid a sea of masked people.

As it happened, when I got my first dose back in March, she and her husband saw me at the place. A day or two afterwards, she started a conversation with me about it, where she told me she didn't believe in it but to each his own and her husband was possibly looking into getting the J & J one. Her husband jokingly asked me if I felt like Rambo, to which I replied, "No, but I might turn into a Borg."

Meanwhile, the neighbor next to her, who is also in her 60s, talks about having had COVID over a year ago because her doctor found antibodies and he then apparently told her she doesn't need a shot. As it happened, about a week ago she, too, had a conversation with the funeral dude, who told her she should get the shot but she adamantly refuses. She also seems to have some cultural or political bias about it because she comes from Poland, and she has said that she knows what it's like to come from Communist rule and that's what these politicians are trying to do, etc. and that it's all bs. Apparently, her lawyer-daughter and son-in-law told her early on about doctors inflating the numbers.

Let's just say I usually try to avoid or cut short these kinds of conversations. Don't want to give it the energy.

I am OLD and remember when the polio vaccine became available.  Everyone lined up to get it and you never heard a word on the news about anti-vaccine people.  So I have to ask also....how did we get here?

I have to agree about social media, in fact, that's the reason I don't have a Facebook, Twitter or any of the other accounts out there.  I'm actually amazed that I post here...LOL!

    • On that same note, it's astounding to have mobster Sonny in the same office with Mayor Laura chatting it up about their mutual grandson. Think about the reaction if John Gotti and Mayor Eric Adams had a friendship

?? I guess the Logic behind Sonny & Jason acceptance is like when i saw a documentary where FBI agents said they'd rather deal with the mafia than terrorists or cartels---they're the "lesser of 3 evils". Anyway I'm about 30 years late on this convo.
    • Im confused. Does Jessica know anything about June's relation to Tyrell? At the start of the episode, it seemed like June was gonna slip that he was her son but she caught herself but later in the episode she referred to him as "my boy" and Jessica had no reaction like that wasnt a surprise to her No, Anita was putting money in the account every 6 months but we werent told how much was in it when Leslie became a beneficiary. The show has set it up that it was multiplying based off the interest so that its really worth quite alot now. I dont buy it but thats what they've told us
    • What was the point in Lori's return as Mrs. Max Hollister? That little story never made much sense to me.  Were there plans for a permanent return? Or even a new family with her as the matriarch?
    • I guess it depends on your device.  I can watch CW shows via their website on my Windows PC.
    • Ooooo A Liam episode? I'll watch it later today. They sure are churning the daily episodes out early.

    • Welcome back, Shawn Douglas! It's been a while. It really is too bad that the writers don't really have an interest in the character because there are still a lot of ways that he can be used effectively on the canvas. He should have been a part of the 60th anniversary celebrations as well. If anything, just to represent Bo and Hope. And I'd much rather see Jada paired with him than possibly with Theo. But I enjoyed him getting caught up with Belle, and comforting her. I'm sure they'll find their way back to each other at some point but I do like them as divorced friends. I just hope we see it play out onscreen. Belle being a dick about Sami again was unnecessary though. And we finally saw Liam again!  I'm curious to see how this storyline is going to play out, and who's going to be weaved into it. He and Abe do work well together too. And we learned that he has a kid. Hopefully, we'll learn more about his character in the future. But I'm not really sure about Johnny and Chanel suddenly having problems with raising Trey. They've wanted a baby for so long, so I don't understand why this is even an issue. They should know by now what it's like to raise a baby. But I did enjoy Johnny's scenes with EJ, and that Johnny still hasn't refused to forgive him. This storyline was/is very clunky, but having the two of them be at odds is the right decision. There's so much story potential that can be drawn from that. As for Chad... there was no time for us to see his reunion with Will, but there's time for us to see him talking BS with Leo? I don't get it. And I don't get all this random dating app stuff either. Leo and Javi were boring af too. If we're forced to endure them, can they at least have some real conflict? The two of them losing the baby was the perfect opportunity for it.
