I don't think any these actors are above Jane right now but ...

Sarah Michelle Gellar! Started on AMC the same age Jane Krakowski was when she started on Search. Though her acting career hasn't amounted to much major success since Buffy, it will always be a cult favourite along with Cruel Intentions. A lot of younger people I've talked to, only by a few years in some cases, recognize her as Daphne from Scooby-Doo, which makes my blood boil, but just adds to her relevancy I guess. She certainly would have been above Jane during her peak years and to some people potentially is more famous.

Jake Weary! Certainly a rising star like Jesse Lee Soffer. He does great work on Animal Kingdom. He was in the critically acclaimed film, It Follows, and had a memorable role in IT: Chapter Two. On a separate note, looking at his Wiki page, I am dumbfounded that he was involved with the brief FRED fad that Nickelodeon cashed in on. What an eclectic career he's had.

Spencer Treat Clark! He was a child actor on Another World as Spencer Frame. He plays the boyfriend of Jake Weary's character on Animal Kingdom. He first came to my attention with the remake of The Last House on the Left where he gave a very strong, sympathetic performance. He's grown into a personal favourite of mine, both because of his talent and looks.

I will say, of all the long running soaps, it's kind of embarassing how little, if any, of DAYS' child actors didn't amount to much. Erik von Detten looked he was going to breakthrough, but his career just kind of fizzled and he's basically out of the business now.

In contrast, off the top of my head, YR and ATWT have a lot of actors who were on their shows for mostly brief periods of time that have solid careers. For instance,

Penn Badgley (YR)! Easy A, Gossip Girl, and especially You, where his work was critically acclaimed. He was recently announced to be involved in an upcoming Billy Crystal/Tiffany Haddish film. Not a pairing I'd ever thought I'd see together, but nonetheless a good move for him

Thomas Dekker (YR)! Consistently working and as of 2017 as an Out Gay man. Personally, I thought he should have been recognized for his work in Cinema Verite. He was brilliant.

Zach Roerig (ATWT, OLTL)! A big win with The Vampire Diaries, having a major role on a successful (for The CW) show for 8 seasons, and he's been used sparingly in both of its spin-off series. He has a small, but integral role in a new war film coming out theatrically early next year with a bevy of major film stars that includes Peter Fonda in his last film.

Paul Wesley (AW, GL)! The lead star of The Vampire Diaries. He's done some directing as well and is on the CBS All Access show, Tell Me a Story, another Kevin Williamson project. Where, coincidentally enough, he works worth another Casey Hughes in ...

Billy Magnussen (ATWT)! His career has gone from strength to strength since ATWT ended. He's a Tony nominee and seems to be well favoured in the industry. I could easily see him winning major accolades in the future.

I'm going to stop there and give other people a chance.

I enjoyed your observations. Great additions to the list.

I’m not sure that some people understood the assignment...LOL. Lisa Peluso, Beth Ehlers...they never GRADUATED from soaps. Hell, they’re not even acting anymore.

Anna Kendrick, who wasn’t even on soaps?  Ohhhhkayyyyyy...

Hayden Panetierre is one of my favorites but I’d need to see her next project before I’d consider her a contender. I’m afraid at this point she’s going to wind up on Hallmark movies.

Jane is really heads above everyone at the moment given her career diversity and her awards wins and noms.

I'm still waiting to see if anyone has episodes where Emmy Rossum appears on ATWT. Hard to believe that there are so many episodes still missing from YouTube and it's not like this episode was in the 60s or 70s-- this was from the late 90s.

Who knows where Kimberly McCullough will end up?  She is booking big gigs as a television director.  If she ever gets to direct a pilot of a hit show she will be rolling in money.  It is a different kind of Hollywood success, but still worth noting.

Definitely! Look at another acclaimed child actor (albeit in primetime) who went on to become a highly successful director - Ron Howard. I know Kimberly has had success directing episodes of The Conners. Who knows where she might end up? The sky is the limit.

Shameless’ Emmy Rossum Remembers Her First SAG Job at As The World Turns

Showtime’s fantastic dramedy Shameless returns on January 8 for its second season, and we can’t wait to see how  Fiona Gallagher juggles her crazy family this time around. However, before Emmy Rossum landed the role of Fiona, her first SAG  gig was on As the World Turns as Abigail Williams.  Included in a profile of SAG lead actress contenders by The Hollywood Reporter, Rossum remembers her ATWT audition:

My First SAG Job: On As the World Turns. I played Holden and Molly's daughter Abigail. I desperately wanted the part. I was 11 and had been studying X and Y chromosomes, dominant genes and recessive genes. I watched the show the day before my audition and realized the two actors who played the parents both had blue eyes. I had just learned in school that two blue-eyed parents can't have a brown-eyed child. So I went into the audition and said if they wanted me, I would go get contact lenses to have blue eyes. They cast me and said, "Make sure she brings her contacts."

Okay. Odd. I thought he had found out about this ATWT actress. Must've got it wrong.

I think Sarah Michelle Gellar is not a winner because she  & La Lucc did  not get along at all.

Because Susan Lucci’s approval is what makes soap graduates successful.

Alicia Minshew wishes she had SMG’s career.

Well, that makes sense. Although I will say that Minshew is talented. She, like all these soap folk are going to have to struggle now. Really struggle!

Budig & Minshew are a real pair!

Sarah Michelle Gellar is a “winner” because she had a hugely successful

career for many years. That’s the criteria here.  Her career has cooled but she’s got a comeback in her yet.

I never cared if she and Lucci got along. It’s a non-issue to me.

I somehow sense you’re going to toss out Lacey Chabert’s name next...

Plus, she may not be the most relevant career wise, but the girl is still richer than any of us.

Well, she has been successful, if you consider appearing mostly in Hallmark movies successful.
