Unpopular Opinions

What are some of your unpopular soap opinions?

Some of mine (I’ll start with the soaps currently on air):

B&B:

I was never a huge fan of the Ridge/Taylor pairing.

I prefer Liam to Wyatt.

DAYS:

EJ was only viable and likable with Nicole.

Victor and Maggie haven’t been relevant or needed in decades.

Mike and Carrie were so much better than Austin and Carrie.

GH:

Elizabeth hasn’t been a likable character since Lucky died in the fire.

I never liked the Dante/Lulu pairing and thought he would have been so much better with Sam.

Sarah Brown is still the best Carly and her version was the only time I liked the character.

Y&R:

Lily and Cane need to break up, she would be better paired with Nick or Billy.

Phyllis was only ever somewhat likable during the first round of Jack/Phyllis.

Those are some of mine, let me know if you don’t think any of them are all that unpopular. These are what I think seem to be unpopular. What are some of yours?

I would rather the remaining soaps be cancelled  than wheeze along on life support, in a deteriorated, crippled state of awfulness.

@vetsoapfan, I don't think that's such an unpopular opinion. I feel the same way.

I's like to see CBS rebroadcast two vintage eps of Y&R every day, starting from its debut in 1973, in the current show's timeslot. Ditto NBC and Days and ABC with GH (or AMC or OLTL).

Agreed! I also preferred her with Lucky and Patrick over Nikolas.

I thought Jennifer Bransford was actually pretty good as Carly, she unfortunately never stood a chance.

Same here. I liked her disposition, a smile that lit up a room. It makes me miss the Qs a lot!

I always loved and adored Loving. (Yes, I know, the cheese stands alone.)

I loathed Alicia Minshew as Kendall on All My Children

Elaine Princi was my favorite "Dorian Lord" on One Life to Live. (Enters Witness Protection Program...)

I think the dialogue on all of the soaps (especially the Bell soaps) is the worst on television. Shondaland shows (especially Scandal) come in a close second.

While she was not favorite Dorian, I thought Princi was very good in the role. In fact, I thought ALL the actresses chosen for the part were quite good in their own way, including Dixie Carter when she subbed for Nancy Pinkerton in 1974.

I don't think that was an unpopular opinion. Back in the day, Mike and Carrie had a huge following. I know I certainly liked them a lot as a couple, but then I couldn't stand that dim bulb Austin.

GH
I hated that the Cassadines were revived and wished they had been left in the 80s.

OLTL
I liked Nicholas Walker's Max better than James DePaiva.

RH/OLTL
I hated Roscoe Born as Joe....and his reappearances as Mitch caused me to "go on hiatus."

I considered Thorsten Kaye the guy who ate every soap he was on at ABC.

While I did prefer AT’s version I enjoyed NL’s version and do not understand the hate she gets.

AMC:

Babe Carey was one of the worst characters in soap history.

OLTL:

I hated John and Natalie, he was more enjoyable with Evangeline and even Blair.

GL/GH:

Carrie Marler was Jane Elliot’s best soap character ever and she gave her best performances as Carrie, not Tracy Quartermaine.

I’ve heard many people say that.  Wish I could see more than a clip here or there.

I think Tracy was her most popular role, and certainly most iconic.  But I’ve hear other people say that Carrie was her best performance.  I think she says it herself too.

While all the Dorian's were good in their own way, my vote goes to Nancy Pinkerton's performance as Dorian as my top pick.  Her portrayal was one of the best examples of a "love to hate" character in the business!

On an unrelated subject, I know it's silly, and there is no way they could have kept it, but I always felt that "GH" was never the same after it traded its old-fashioned organ music for a more modern musical score in the mid-70s.  Believe it or not, on the now famous 52nd anniversary episode, where the characters of Steve, Jessie, and Phil were resurrected, I was secretly hoping they'd manage to bring back George Wright-like organ music to add an authentic touch!
