I wish I could remember more of the time (as I was pretty young) or where I read it more recently as a reminder, but it's been said this version of Jack is actually more in line with the 'original' characterisation. Terry Lester's Jack was more like this. Selfish, rough around the edges, invariably drawn to the wrong woman, at odds with Ashley and ruthless as a businessman. To the point it causes problems. And that it was Peter Bergman's good looks and portrayal that necessitated the change into 'smiling Jack'.

The habit of losing (to the Newmans) I believe was born out of his feud with Victor. And because it's become so commonplace, and dramatically produces good scenes, consecutive writers have extended the scope of his losses to the Newman children. Case in point, this past week with Victoria.

Would it have killed the writers to write Nikki seeing this young woman busking outside of CL a few times before she gets the sudden flash of inspiration to bring her and Reed together for a lesson?

Such clunky writing, it makes me ask over and over whether the writers use an actual outline for their stories. It just doesn't seem like they do.

I was young too but I remember the first Jack as always being desirable even though you knew he was a bad boy. It was almost like a dare for a woman to be with him. Whereas with PB's Jack, I only like him when he's being the better man or a good guy. He's not charming when he's ruthless. TL's Jack was attractive even when he was naughty. He had more sex appeal.

They're really listening to fans. I've seen viewers ask for both Neil, and Devon, to have their own businesses for years, so it's perfect that they are doing this together. Another plus is it will re-establish the father & son bond that was first tarnished by Tyra, then decimated by Tucker, and finished off by sharing Hillary.

Yesterday I saw the Neil I used to know, a father and a highly successful business executive who helped Newman, Jabot, & Chancellor make big money. Victor & Tucker are nasty, ruthless, and constantly break the law. Neil's an honest businessman more like John Abbott. Who better to mentor Devon into being successful?

Completely agree. Or have her appear a few times in background at CL - without Nikki. Have Sharon befriend her or at least be cool with her hustling for change while playing. Nikki hears her, asks Sharon about her. Sharon gives two-cents, Nikki hires her and when Tessa turns out to be an opportunist, Nikki can blame Sharon, of course. I'm not sure why there was a rush for the insta-teacher. People complained about Pratt being plot-driven, this is exactly the same thing - but worse because it's boring.

Nah, Sally is slovenly but Pratt was more atrocious. He didn't care about character and he ran roughshod over story.

The reality is that Y&R hasn't had a writer concerned with detailed storytelling in about a decade now. It's all so slipshod, it's like they can't be bothered with details, which is odd since they only have 5 freaking days per week to write story!

Both SS and Pratt are far from ideal storytellers.

I didn't understand Jordan's comment to Hilary either at first. It seemed so isolated and out of nowhere. And then in Friday's episode, we get some information from Jordan's conversation with Lily that he's done some seemingly shady things to make ends meet. Could Jordan's comment to Hilary and his past actions be connected?

    • Today was painful (especially for Philip).  I still feel for Xander. He was clear he was happy sharing and working with Philip. It's just one more betrayal from someone he loved. Going back to last year when he found out about Victor and Fiona, then Alex and Philip. He forgave and tried. Then Philip went behind his back again. He's been walking on the edge for weeks. This is a man who was abused, neglected and has never had any therapy for his horrific past. He has zero coping skills because he's never learned them. I hate this but I refuse to hate Xander
    • Lucy Coe wasn't even this big of a whore.
    • Kate being the one that Alex called was a nice surprise. The cut to her looking all sheek made me instantly get excited for her to get back into business mode. And the Jack reference from when she first came to town (on-screen) was inserted naturally which is always welcome. When they were talking about how much sex sells, I almost got the impression they were sizing each other up in a May/December type of way.  All the Philip stuff was gruesome. I'm happy the show isn't shying away from Xander's ugliness. I love them both, and it just makes me intrigued for the aftermath for it all to be taken seriously. I cheered when Philip spat out at that Sarah knew the truth. I'm on tenterhooks for their eventual confrontation. I was surprised that Kate wasn't a little vicious towards Sarah for Xander's obvious behavior, but maybe that's still to come. How wonderfully entangled is it that both Philip and Shawn/Steve stopped each other from getting the drug. Both equally at fault. Who/what will ultimately save Bo? And with everything going on, is a Salem where it's looking likely that EJ is about to own the hospital imminent?
    • Oddly.. Chase and Steve seem to have both vanished from the canvas in December so the Estelle return loses impact when two of her kids stop appearing shortly after her return (and I assume TR leaves in early 1986 as well). The Steve recast doesn't work... but it's odd that he has a long scene with Teri with Cagney looking jealous.. when the majority of his time on the show previously was a relationship and engagement to Stephanie (who he barely has a scene with in the episodes I see). Your idea for Wendy/Bela/Stephanie sounds just like what Ryan's Hope did with Michael/Kim/Rae... and considering Louise Shaffer was playing Rae and Stephanie.. it would have been a lousy redux of a superior story on another soap (that had months of build-up) I think Quinn becoming assistant to Stephanie was Mayer/Braxton... but not 100 % sure. I don't know if Mayer/Braxton was setting up Sarah as a bad girl disguised as a good girl.. but the actress (Joyner) was playing the scenes in that manner.. and Tomlin wisely tapped into that when he took over.
    • She’s such a caricature - which is a shame because I think the actress is capable of so much more.   I don’t know why Cady often feels like she has overcompensated in her performances. She already proved she can play much more than just Dixie Cooley during her first stint at ATWT (her best acting era). Her performances in various roles since then have been quite strange at times.
    • It feels like the show suddenly woke up today and remembered it was Sweeps month. Lots of action and forward momentum, including a delicious Nina/Carly fight.

    • Where did I say that you weren't allowed to say anything? Personally I just find "disgusted" a very strong word, and not something I would use for such a trivial matter as a song contest. You obviously do, and that's your prerogative, just as it is mine to disagree.
