Both Days and LIAMST featured rape stories in the late 60's where the characters were not married...

Were there any earlier stories where a character was raped?

I didn't know that about LIAMST. Yeah, your right about Days. Wasn't it Laura ? I remember someone said they showed her pearls break and spill on the ground. Bill Bell wrote that storyline too.

I have read that Chris Brooks rape on Y&R in 1973 was shockingly graphic and violent for daytime TV. Anthony Geary played her rapist George Curtis.

All the soap reference books list ATWT and EON as the first half hour soaps. They don't get into which aired first, which seems moot to me. They were both P&G shows and launched on the same day. For my money they should jointly share the honor as first half hour soaps.

I don't think so -- but I think you're right. Margo Flax on AMC had the first facelift on soaps, but Kay's was the first performed on-camera.

I believe that Anne Tyler Martin's daughter Beth was the first crib death in 1977,preceding DJ Craig on Days.
