Members SoapDope
Supposedly Y&R did one of the first breast cancer stories with Jennifer Brooks in 1975.
Members SoapDope
I didn't know that about LIAMST. Yeah, your right about Days. Wasn't it Laura ? I remember someone said they showed her pearls break and spill on the ground. Bill Bell wrote that storyline too. I have read that Chris Brooks rape on Y&R in 1973 was shockingly graphic and violent for daytime TV. Anthony Geary played her rapist George Curtis. Members SOAPSFOREVER
All the soap reference books list ATWT and EON as the first half hour soaps. They don't get into which aired first, which seems moot to me. They were both P&G shows and launched on the same day. For my money they should jointly share the honor as first half hour soaps. Members GMac
Was there a marital rape story before Roger/Holy on GL?
Members soapsfordays
Days did the first crib death. First possession by a main character. First gay male wedding. I'm sure there are more but Days does a lot of firsts.
Members titan1978
Was GH the first official summer in the run storyline with Luke & Laura? Did anyone mention Katherine getting a facelift on camera on Y&R? Or the famous Nixon storyline on Guiding Light where Bert had a cancer scare? I've read that was the first medical storyline (minus birth and death).

Members Khan
I don't think so -- but I think you're right. Margo Flax on AMC had the first facelift on soaps, but Kay's was the first performed on-camera.
Members Franko
Not counting radio soaps, would the first mob storyline have been the Rose Peabody shenanigans on Search For Tomorrow?
