DAYS' Bonnie Lockhart (Judi Evans) was originally Maureen Lockhart when another actress played the role in 2000 when Mimi's family was homeless. They had a throwaway line when Judi took on the role about how her ex-husband "made her" go by her middle name, Maureen.

I had forgotten Days had put that throwaway line in there. I'm glad they did- it's little things like that which I appreciate in the continuity and history of the show.

Alexis Carrington was referred to as Madeline before appearing.

I don't think Alexis was ever referred to by name before debuting. Madeline was just the original name the writers were going to give her.

On Another World Dennis Carrington returned to the show years later as Dennis Wheeler. Wheeler was his father's name, and by the time she returned to the show it was Iris' last name as well. But he had grown up as a Carrington and always been known by that name.

Also on AW, Evan Bates disappeared from the show for about 4 years to evade prosecution. When he returned he was going by the name Evan Frame.

Franco on DAYS
The character's name was supposed to be Jason Kelly. When Victor Alfieri, who's italian and had a thick accent, got the part, the name was changed to Gino. TPTB then realized it might be uncomfortable for Kristian Alfonso to have romantic scenes with a character who has the same name as her son IRL. So the characters name was changed to Franco.

Thanks Paul Raven....good catch. I meant to say Carrington. I don't know what I was thinking.

Stephanie's sister on B&B was named Lauren early on the show. Then of course she joined the show 20+ years later as Pam.

When Lovers and Friends morphed into For Richer,For Poorer Rhett Saxton had a name change to Bill.

Years before when Flame in the Wind became A Time for Us,one of the families' surnames changed from Skerba to Driscoll.

Not before introduction but a change nonetheless.

Before Grayson Hall was cast as Dr. Julia Hoffman on Dark Shadows, the character was originally intended to be a man. One of the episodes prior to Grayson's first appearance makes reference to Dr. Julian Hoffman.

I remember a few from AMC. Hayley was supposed to be Allison. Ceara Connor was also supposed to be called Allison, until they changed the character's name at the last minute to the name of Agnes Nixon's real life niece. Dimitri Marick was originally named Brice Cannon. Mitch Beck was supposed to be Trip Marshall, until they changed the character to Donna's brother.

Another AMC one: Ellen Wheeler's Cindy character was called "Cindy Anderson" her first few episodes, and it was even Cindy Anderson in the credits. Her last name was quickly changed to "Parker."

Johnathan's last name on GL was originally Baynes until the 2003 episode where Sandy "revealed" himself as being Jonathan Randall.

Wasn't Frankie Frame suppose to be Molly Ordway by another name on AW?

Not sure if it counts but there was Yolanda/Harmony was another on Y&R, although she was briefly referred to as Yolanda by Neil at the beginning.
