All of 60s GH exists at UCLA. They have a ton of classic soaps, actually, but a lot of the really good stuff (episodes of every soap from 1971 and 1973) is marked "non-circulating." I believe the GH episodes are available , though.

allmc, Agnes sold her shows to ABC in 1975, but it was AMC's switch to the hour format that prompted her to demand they save the episodes.

As far as why certain shows were saved, I would just assume it's because those production companies could afford it because they produced only one or two soaps at a time.

I believe there is a way to DVR it but it seems more complicated than my tech knowledge has the capacity to understand right now. I just recently discovered that my PC has the capability to do DVR functions but I would need the proper cables and equipment and I'm too overwhelmed with other stuff right now (I should actually get back to work). Someday before summer's end, though, I'm going to take the time and learn what it's about.

It's unfortunate that Retro can't air The Doctors online. I look forward to the day that everything that ever was is available for streaming. P&G's classic channel on AOL was an amazing gift to the fans, it is really too bad that it was yanked and others haven't followed suit.

Eric, our homework is to write Linda Gottlieb and Michael Malone and get 13 Bourbon St. on Amazon or even YouTube. I'll write Conboy about Capitol. I've seen Capitol as well as AMC and Loving/The City advertised on sites devoted to programming for sale in foreign markets. The episodes are certainly there.

I am seriously thinking about writing to Sony and others. I could even right a brief business plan of some kind. Another words, I am not going to say, "I want my shows to air on Amazon because people will like it". I am really going to do homework. Maybe you and Eric could use my document and modify it if you are serious like I am.

EDIT: I am sorry if you are being sarcastic. It is a bit hard for me to get sarcasm online.

I wonder if 20th Century Fox has Best of Everything and RTPP stored away somewhere.

Metromedia was behind How To Survive .... that company is no longer in existence but again, the series may be still in existence.

Many soaps aired in Australia in the 70's so the tapes may have been kept.

I wonder how much of the early soaps were only saved on kinescope ? I remember seeing a Days flashback sequence where they were showing 60's scenes of Marie after she lost her baby and most of it was in color, but when they showed where she kept hearing her baby crying and broke down it was in black and white kinescope format. Days seems to like to dig back in the vault and share their rich history.

Y&R seems to rarely show old footage. Matter of fact, history or storylines and characters prior to the 80's, seems to be swept under the rug. Now that Jeanne Cooper's is gone, the only current characters left from the 70's is Jill, Paul & Nikki.

I'm actually not sure what the terms of Agnes's demands were, in regards to AMC expanding and the tapes being saved. That's always the story I've been told, but I guess I never considered that part of it.

The distribution rights to various soaps could probably make your head spin, especially since whatever companies have the rights have so rarely actually done anything with the shows. The PGP soaps and ABC soaps are pretty simple to figure out, and so are DAYS and Y&R, but who holds the rights to Santa Barbara? Capitol? Whatever Love of Life episodes that are still out there?

John Conboy Productions owns Capitol, IIRC. I don't believe he was under Screen Gems, but I could be wrong. His JCP logo appears at the end of Capitol episodes, not unlike the Bell logo, but I'm almost positive that his company wasn't parented or acquired. That foreign syndication site I mentioned earlier only mentioned JCP.

Slightly off-topic, but I was watching Casino the other night. Damn, if Conboy's proposed soap, also titled Casino, could have even come close to that in terms of look (certainly) and storytelling/tone (arguably/doubtfully), what a joy that would have been 5x/week.

Before streaming was truly in I know Hulu aired Another World (along with YouTube), continuing from where SOAPnet dropped the show. Then they also showed ATWT and GL, but all of this has been pulled. Now that streaming is a bigger deal I wish they would bring these shows back. Due to the PGP AOL channel these channels have already been digitalized so all they have to do is put them on. I would buy a subscription for any of these networks if it meant seeing Texas, Search For Tomorrow, etc. again. With The Doctors I'm sad because I know it's not available where I live and I REALLY wanna be a regular viewer.
