YR Casting, Days Uncasting

I like that she can still do both. To me, it just seems to give her stability with the flexibility she wants. So really, to me, nothing's changed except she has guaranteed income. I would love to see Y&R write for her and do her justice but I can't see that happening. DAYS just uses her better. Good for her though. Too bad she felt "forced" on DAYS but at the same time, I can't blame her because she was, even if she does love the cast and likely enjoys being there. I mean, hell, it finally got her that well deserved Emmy.

I understand her though, she was being worked to the ground at DAYS and being paid with peanuts. On Y&R, they may not use her properly, but she's making more money. Who wants to work hard and not be compensated for it? She's understandably upset about the pay situation there.

But also, a character like Kristen cannot be a long-term character. She needs to come in for stints or burst periods. They only way she can become a long-term character is if they water her down or make her extremely cartooney and comedic. So really, it's a dream contract. She gets to make more money at Y&R, but can do short stints at DAYS when they need her to.

But also, I wish people wouldn't compare the two characters. Ashley and Kristen are nothing alike, and Y&R shouldn't start writing Ashley like Kristen because that's what won Eileen an Emmy. Ashley is a classic soap heroine with a sometimes frosty exterior, and she has a demure and classy presence. Kristen is cray and not afraid to look downright ratchet. Can you honestly imagine Ashley Abbot dressed and acting like Kristen?

Ashley has had numerous breakdowns on the show before and has never resorted to villainy. Ashley is not that type of character, you can't go there with a character suddenly who has been on the show for 30 years.

Perhaps they should give her a new rival. Maybe Gina Tognoni's version of Phyllis?

I see Days is dark for a month, so that will reduce that show's ridiculous schedule of being so far ahead. Maybe they'll get the hint it needs to be narrowed even further...

I do hope Ashley is written well over at Y&R (hell, we may have new writers at that show before too long) and, while I'm not crazy at the sharing between the two shows, it's good DAYS gets to use her. I don't want Days to become too dependent on Kristen at the expense of other characters and the fans ("Who cares about that 1.6? We've got Kristen coming back! That'll get those ratings above 2.0!")

Phyllis is a much more high profile role than Victoria. Victoria is a big character but Phyliis is iconic and Gina played messed up bad so well on GL. Amelia just won an Emmy her bosses and CBS adores her. So until she decides to leave on her own we can forget about any nuvictoria. She will never be fired.

Psychic now, are we? Many actors have been "adored" by their bosses and networks only for a new producer to come on board or a new network executive to be hired and suddenly they're out the door and out of a job. It's happened before and can surely happen to Amelia.
