It's lovely that she mentions Charita Bauer after all this time. (even if I would never equate Tracey and Bert in any way--ever)All in all, she sounds like a cool chick.

Can't believe she threw away tons of Elvis memorabilia or that she knits/crochets.

TV Guide Magazine: Well, let's go here instead: What's behind Tracy's enduring appeal, considering she's pretty much of a disaster as a human being?
Elliot: I think a lot of it has to do with loyalty. The audience has seen her through a million mistakes and a million marriages. They've seen her lose her parents and her brother. She's a familiar face, one they have a lot of history with, so it's almost like the story doesn't matter. And I finally get that!

Well, I'm glad SOMEONE gets it. True, a familiar face cannot excuse ANY bad story decision. But as long as that character remains somewhat recognizable to the audience, IMO, the audience will hang with that character through just about anything.

I experienced a similar epiphany recently while binge-watching "Murder, She Wrote" on Netflix. Although I had seen the entire series, and I had remembered "whodunit" in practically every episode, I actually could not WAIT to go back to the beginning and watch the series again. The reason? Jessica Fletcher. She (and Angela Lansbury) is just so lovely and ingratiating a presence that I could not bear the thought of "visiting" her anymore. Doesn't matter that I can practically quote whole episodes now, line for line, scene for scene. I'm just happy "Miss Fletcher" is on my TV screen once more, and that as long as I subscribe to Netflix, or break down and buy the complete series on DVD "just in case," and I can catch up with her as often as I wish.

Meanwhile...

Jane Elliot was already high on my list of all-time favorite soap actors. Her words about Charita Bauer, though, just moved her up a little higher.

I just fell in love with JE a bit more reading that interview. Didnt know it was possible cuz i figured she had reached the limits that my poor heart could handle but she is possibly the greatest actress to have ever graced daytime in my years as a soap viewer.

Shes so made of awesome I dont dislike Deirdre as much as I did before.

I loved reading that she was close to ER and JT. Wish she had more scenes with Patrick.

I LOVE that she paid homage by mentioning the legendary dames of daytime in her interview, and that she feels that she is matriarchal figure of GH now because she is. I just hate that unlike Charita Bauer, Eileen Herlie, Ruth Warrick, etc. that Tracy doesn't interact with majority of the cast. I miss the days when soaps had town matriarchs/patriarchs and they served a voices of reasons to the youngsters. Now they're just pulled out on occasions for anniversaries, holidays, or to pimp newer characters instead of making us care for them.

*sighs in annoyance*

For once, I'm kind of with Logan: I'd like to watch and spot the raging lesbian innuendos in a reality series starring Deidre and Jane.

Even though it is OT, so much damn WORD regarding Angela Lansbury. I grew up with Jessica Fletcher and Murder, She Wrote, and when it was cancelled, I felt like a part of my childhood was over.

On the upside, that show (well, the reruns) and Miss Lansbury are still going strong. Next week I have the amazing good luck to see her in a play, Noel Coward's Blithe Spirit. I feel so incredibly fortunate and am literally counting the days! I hope the production gets transferred to the US so that you might have a chance to see it. Like, if you were able to make it to NYC or, better yet, if they filmed a performance and showed it on A&E or something.

FYI, I watched State of the Union with Spencer Tracy and Katherine Hepburn a few months ago, and a young Angela Lansbury had a role in that which totally blew me away. She was 20 when she did it but my God she was such a great performer. She was also great in Gaslight as a conniving maid.
