I don't understand why people are "comfortable" with Meg Bennett HWing for Y&R just because she wrote scripts for the show three decades ago. True, it does give her a connection but writing scripts is totally not equal to being a headwriter. There needs to be a talented writer(s) (whether someone coming back from the old team or someone completely new to the genre) that are willing and capable of writing the show in its own style. So far, the ONLY one that has done so successfully is, you guessed it, Kay Alden. You can throw any and all suggestions but they're not going to work because these writers cannot and will not write Y&R the way it is supposed to be written.

Yep. She is the ONLY writer who successfully carried on the style of the show. And it's likely, since she started in 1974, that what we know as the Y&R style Kay Alden had something to do with since Bill had such a small writing team for decades. It only became the bloated monstrosity it is now in the last ten years.

At this point, I don't know who would want this job or who they would offer it to.

I guess a lot of people still want this job... But I don't think they are capable.

As for Meg Bennett; she's an ok writer but nothing more. Definitely no hw material...

^^Even if it's true, whoever's writing that crapola needs to take a seat

Interesting point because this is exactly how I felt about Garin Wolfe at the helm of GH. He was a great script writer, but HW is a whole different animal. He was not equipped for that position, but I respect him as a writer.

A source tells Soaps In Depth that veteran soap writer Shelly Altman, a member of the current Y&R team, will move into the position. (Altman's previous positions include posts at ANOTHER WORLD, GENERAL HOSPITAL and ONE LIFE TO LIVE.) From what we hear, Altman's co-headwriter could either be former AS THE WORLD TURNS head scribe Jean Passanante or Tracy Thompson, another Y&R staff writer

When they started kicking out major players like Eileen Davidson, Stephen Nichols, and now Michelle Stafford among others this is where the show is starting to suffer. Very little Emmy love and other weaknesses now with the show, overall.

LOL, Stephen Nichols is a major Y&R player? Since when? Most people would associate him with GH and/or Days before Y&R. However Jess Walton WAS a major #YR player for 25 years, she was pushed aside so Tucker could replace Jill w/Kay. What a disaster.

The show started circling the drain years before Ellen Davidson left. The dark days of killing off Brad, then Colleen, Adam gas-lighting Ashley, re-casting Tucker to replace Jill & Jess Walton instead of being her love interest , Lauren's doppelganger, etc etc. etc.

SERIOUSLY!? They must be kidding...

Jean Passanante? Oh god no. I don't remember ever really liking anything she's written as a HW. Even if she would be a 'Co-HW'. I hope they choose someone other than her. At least she's a rumored option only at this point.

Griffith's Y&R is so boring anytime I try and watch to get back into the show. It's not awful but nothing is really making me want to watch at this point. I was hoping for good writer news.

What are folks thoughts if they do move Altman into the position?

Altman is a FOJ, but why would Sony side with who she wants?

I have to think this is a short-term thing, until Sony finds someone they want in the role, if this is indeed true.

Personally, I blame both Altman and Thompson for the sh*tty pacing and inept wiriting on this show the past months. The stories itself weren't that much a problem... Some of them were pretty good.

Jean Passanante would be unexpected. She has a history with Shelly Altman but I don't think she has ever worked with JFP.

I think Tracey Thomson is more likely.

I remember at one point Frons said in an interview that TT was one of the greatest talents ABC Daytime had in its stable of writers. But that's Frons.
