DAYS: Comings & Goings

Love seeing that T is going to make an appearance this week! I've said it before and will say it again.. please give this kid a contract!! Get T well integrated into the cast while Chandler and Freddie are still here. Then when (or if) they leave we have T already well established as more than just a recurring character that he is now.

As for Chandler, I see how hard this is. It's kind of a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. There definitely could NOT be Will recast immediately where Chandler is there one day and the next day a new actor has taken over. If they recast Will would definitely have to go "visit Austin/Carrie" or leave town for a few MONTHS before reintroducing the new Will.. at least I would need that for it to work for me. I respect the idea also of writing Will out so that if (or hopefully when) Chandler decides to return the role is open and his to come back to.. but Will Horton is, and always has been, my absolute favorite DOOL character of all time and I don't want the character to be off screen.

Thanks, JackPayton and Jo.

I can understand why the Executive Producer would say "we won't recast" right now. They probably were not expecting Chandler to say anything about his longterm plans, but it came out anyway.

They're already looking for someone "similar" to Chad in their new casting notice and the current Chad will be off screen by October.

Let's just be realistic and not delude ourselves.

I also find it quite interesting that when the news first hit about Chandler leaving, nobody wanted to believe it. Now, that it's been confirmed, some folks are already suggesting that Freddie's going to chose to leave with Chandler?! C'mon.

Honestly, Ken is probably so detached, I don't ever pay attention to what he has to say.

Will can be recast. IMO. Chandler helped define the role but they can recast. Not right away, definitely not.

And I hope Freddie isn't sacrificed when Chandler exits. Just because we haven't heard news about Freddie doesn't mean anything. The show is taping probably November. Chandler won't exit until when? April 2014? Is that on-air or last tape? Because ... damn. Why do we have to know like 11 months ahead (thanks to their four month ahead taping schedule). They could always fire Freddie (though I really don't see them doing that unless he decides to leave too) and write off Wilson if they really do decide Will is not recastable.

Chandler should last film mid dec. if Freddie was fired I think we would know by now as they are filming nov and I think already wrote wills exit. I don't think he will be fired tho as I think they will keep sonny on. He has ties outsid of will they have been playing up.

I expect Sonny's ex boyfriend to hit town shortly after will leaves.

I just don't see why they can't recast Will. I don't think Massey made the role his - Will is a sort of generic role that a lot of capable, relatively charismatic actors could play. He's like the Tom Hughes of DAYS.

I think they should try to keep the few teens/early twentysomethings they have to at least help usher in a new group.

Ah, OK. Thanks for the clarity on the taping/airing. I get so confused.

I don't think they'll get rid of Freddie either (especially since they've amped up using Justin and Adrienne as well). I'd be be ticked if they did just because Chandler was leaving.

Sonny was a world traveler, they should have always been exploring his past.

The only reason they say Massey made the role is because he came out but Id love the role recast with an actor just as hot but that can do better in his acting and be more mature and really show us what he wants and go after Sonny who has moved on with someone else.

I don't see why everyone wants Will recast. I like how DAYS isn't so recast happy for the most part. Their "let them leave and if they fail in Hollywood bring them back" approach" works for me. And immediate recasts are always annoying. I've never cared for Chandler Massey and will never understand why people think he can act, but if they do recast I hope it's after Will is off canvas for a good bit of time.

    • If NBC could have for seen the ratings of Lovers & Friends (the replacement for Somerset).. they would have for sure kept Somerset on the air longer. https://jason47.com/days/ratings1976.html  (ratings for Somerset in the final year) https://jason47.com/days/ratings1977.html (ratings for Lovers & Friends short run...getting as low as a 2 rating).

    • I liked them, too, and was really disappointed it never went anywhere. The whole art theft story was ridiculous, but they had a nice chemistry. Certainly nicer than Alan with Christine. With her, he looked like the funny uncle. The worst thing they did to Bolger, IMO, was having Phillip write that DREADFUL novel and dramatizing it while he wrote it. GAG, that has to be in the running for one of their worst storylines that didn't involve wacky things like clones or time travel. Soaps rarely do school storylines, or don't do them for very long. Not the case so much in the early days of soaps, but after GH took off in the late 70s other soaps took their lead and would catapult teens/young adults into adult stories right away. That's one reason Phillip and Mindy ended up with so many ex-spouses--they started getting married really young. They shipped Dina and Cameron off really fast after high school and stuck Alan Michael in a marriage storyline with Harley. Did he EVER go to college? I don't think so. It may also partly explain why Quint and Annabelle had to go, beyond TPTB wanting to do a cast sweep. Teaching is not a profession that plays well on a soap. Quint definitely had to quit being Indiana Jones, because that wore thin really fast, but they didn't do him favors by making him a professor. If they wanted to keep him, they should have done what they did with Amanda (who was in another dead-end soap job, concert pianist)--have him work at Spaulding as one of the major stockholders.
    • Judith McConnell (Augusta) and Denise Alexander (Lesley) were great screen partners on GH.  They got into some stellar arguments in character in the medicine room.
    • He also commented that Brad knows that fans are sick of the constant fake deaths on this show: Finn, Sheila, etc and that it's hard to take this seriously if it's another fake death

    • I just don't think Brad Bell has it in him to actually kill off Liam. He should have killed off Eric when he had the chance. I know John McCook is an original cast member, but Eric is even more useless than Liam. Eric should have died and then it would be revealed that he died without a valid will, so Donna, as his wife, inherits everything, including his shares in Forrester Creations.
    • I think we all will, isn't that how soaps work? lol
    • ^^ I'll believe it when it actually happens.
